Boxtel is a small town, but its big church shows that it was an important place once. Just outside the town you'll find a park in which lies this castle, Kasteel Stapelen. The entire complex was given a new look in early neo-Gothic style in 1857-1858, to fit the then popular ideas about what a medieval castle should look like. Towers were heightened, the facade of the chapel was renewed and countless battlements were added to places where there never had been any. Since 1915 the castle has been used as a monastery. In the Middle Ages a miracle occured here which is still celebrated each year with a big procession.

Marmolada Glacier (Ghiacciaio della Marmolada) is the only glacier in the Italian Dolomites. We took the ‘Funivia Fedaia Marmolada’ up Mount Marmolada to the toe of the glacier. This was part of the front during World War I. There is a lot of history in the area available in small local museums. Although I did not attempt it, associated with the war is the oldest, highest and longest via ferrata in the Dolomites.

As well as the excursion, this day was a testing day of sorts.
Got a new backpack a few weeks ago to carry gear (Mindshift BackLight). Check! Carried some extra gear just to add some weight and it felt great.
Got some new boots this past week that are water proof. Double check!! Feet kept dry.
And wanted to test using my Canon wide angle on the Sony camera. Autofocus speed is not great, so switch to manual focusing which isn't a big deal for landscapes. Focus peaking makes it easy. Check!
A good day :))

At the Prosser Hot Air Balloon Rally 2015 some of the balloons would touch down on the Yakima River, drift up stream to the bridge then they would lift off the water at the last minute and float up and over the bridge. DSC_1484-HDR-1
I've posted a few macros taken during my brief wander through the mist in the field by house at sunrise a few weeks ago. Here's a wide-angle of the view.

Photographed just outside the walled garden on the Llanachaeron estate (NT). Over 200 years old, Llanachaeron was self sufficient and the National Trust carry on maintaining the gardens and farm. The house was designed by John Nash in the 1790's.
God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference.
It's good to see that these meadows in the Alps seem to be still intact. In the lower regions you hardly ever see a meadow with a lot of different flowers, due to enormous production pressure which leads to 5-7 cuts per year, which doesn't help bio-diversity...

Kasteel de Haar is the largest castle of Holland and is located just outside Utrecht and a half an hour drive from Amsterdam. The oldest historical record of a building at the location of the current castle dates to 1391. In that year, the family De Haar received the castle and the surrounding lands. The current buildings, all built upon the original castle, date from 1892. De Haar has everything you expect from a castle; towers, turrets, moats, gates and suspension bridges. The castle is also home to many art objects. Next to the castle you can find a romantic chapel and beautiful parks and gardens. Without a doubt Kasteel de Haar is one of the most luxurious castles of Europe. Kasteel de Haar is located in a green area with well maintained parks and gardens and a beautiful, romantic chapel. It invites to long walks, picnics and even spontaneous marriage proposals. Let medieval times relive and visit Kasteel de Haar.
De Haar Castle, locally known as Kasteel de Haar, lies next to the village of Haarzuilens in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands. De Haar Castle was founded in the 14th century on sediment deposits along a blind arm of the river Rhine. The castle is now surrounded by a large park.

Yesterday I took the chance for a great alpine tour to the Karwendel Mountains - I followed the beautiful Heinrich-Noe-Trail that you can see in front of me and at the right hand side following the mountain.
For this alpine panorama I have stitched 6 high res photos - so please zoom in to enjoy the details...

The Nunnery Quadrangle (a nickname given to it by the Spanish; it was a government palace) is the finest of Uxmal's several fine quadrangles of long buildings with elaborately carved façades on both the inside and outside faces.
A view of Lake Louise from the bridge over the outlet on a bright autumn morning.
"Lake Louise is named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848–1939), the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and the wife of the Marquess of Lorne, who was the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883.
The province of Alberta in Canada is named after her as well. Although the name "Louise" was originally planned for the province the Princess wished to honour her dead father, so her last name was chosen instead." wiki
Calling the province Louise would take some getting used to....Alberta seems to fit better IMHO.
Enjoy a wonderful Sunday!
