Yellow-rumped Warblers are impressive in the sheer numbers with which they flood the continent each fall. Shrubs and trees fill with the streaky brown-and-yellow birds and their distinctive, sharp chips. Though the color palette is subdued all winter, you owe it to yourself to seek these birds out on their spring migration or on their breeding grounds. Spring molt brings a transformation, leaving them a dazzling mix of bright yellow, charcoal gray and black, and bold white.

Dvigrad (Twin-town), Docastei in Istriot language, is an abandoned medieval town in central Istria, Croatia. It is located in the Draga valley. The history of the settlement is prehistoric; it remained inhabited until the 18th century.
The region was settled by the Illyrians in prehistoric times. In 1345, Dvigrad was sacked by the Genoese admiral Paganin Doria during conflicts between Genoa and Venice. The Venetians sacked the town in 1383, but did not take rule of it until 1413, when a nobleman from Koper was put in governance. In the 16th century, plague and malaria depopulated much of the town. In the year 1615 it was besieged again, by Uskoks, and while it escaped capture it was abandoned save for a few poor residents within 15 years. Only three families remained by 1650. In 1714, the last residents left the town to ruin.

Auf so ein Licht habe ich schon so lange gewartet und dann noch dieser Nebel dazu.
Ich weiß nicht wie oft ich mittlerweile an dieser Stelle des kleinen Winterbergs war, um einen Sonnenaufgang zu fotografieren. Es waren schöne dabei, keine Frage, doch es fehlte immer noch das i-Tüpfelchen.
In dieser Woche war es endlich soweit und nach einer schlaflosen Nacht mit einigen erschreckenden Überraschungen und gleichzeitig einer Mondlandschaft, wie sie bezaubernder nicht sein kann, tauchte die Sonne für etwa 30 Minuten den kleinen Zschand in ein wunderbares Licht!

Part fantasy, part reality... Up atop the Grand Mesa tonight as a storm moved through the valley below us. Heaven opened up and shone a beam of light down on the valley. Amazing sight!
I found this seagull perched on a post leading out to the rougher waters of the area surrounding Venice. There were boats by each home or building there because after all it is only one of two ways to navigate Venice. The other is by walking.

Throwback Thursday, Geirangerfjord, Norway, early autumn afternoon, the low angle of the sun hardly shines on sea level at that time of the year, so the cloud cover helped. The leaves on the north facing slopes (left side) had been blown away by a wind storm a few days prior, hence no color on that side.
