View from the Rialto fish market bank over the Grand Canal. Foggy day. Venice
I love the fog, it makes me feel like I was protected and nothing bad could happens to me. Itβs like a transcendental presence taking care of me.

fibre artist Hiromi Tanga in front of her 'Monster Hotel', wool and other fibre activities for children as part of the 'Out of the Box' children's festival at South Bank. I have previously photographed her art when she had a solo exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art a few years ago.
This was my back-up image for our latest print comp, Outside the Box.
I was trying a bit of blue sky thinking but the final print was a bit disappointing.
A few lamp sockets, lamps, a wooden panel and a spray can resulting in a photo that challenges the viewer to go his own way....
The next part of the July Out Of The Box Challenge; Shaped Bokeh. Using a carboard cutout in front of the lens to change the defocused shapes into something not-round. This is with a snowflake cutout. Huge vignette from the cardboard and it ends up looking star shaped.
Here we have Stan Lee (Hot Toys). Not only is he a true visionary, but he looks an awful lot like my own late grandfather. Glad to have him in 1/6 scale.

Been really hectic this week with work and this weekend with life so had to take a flyer and decide whether to just submit the original concept shot or actually finish the idea that I had to start with. Room for improvement as always but that's what keeps us all at it I guess. Otherwise quite happy with both the idea for this and how it turned out.
Tutorial wise I'm not entirely sure what I did myself, but it did involce Photoshop's quick select tool, a layer, a layer mask or two and some rubbing out. Then some adding back in again to fix the bits I messed up.
With regard to actually taking the photos, a very important lesson I (re) learned this week is that before every shoot you should always check your camera settings, particularly the white balance. In fact, it's a good habit to get into to set your camera back to how you normally shoot before you put it away (eg Drive from self timer to single shot, white balance back to auto, manual focus back to auto and so on).
Anyhow - This is it for this week. Got a cracking idea for next week, but not sure if it will work as I don't own a smoke machine.......... yet.
I think we're going to try some ridiculously oversize print tonight.
