For years the signals at Leeds Jct haven't worked since a car accident took out the signal box... even still the junction has had a manual throw switch to the branch, and either end of the siding, for as long as I can remember.... CSX will be upgrading all this area so in a few years it will look entirely different with control switches and new signals. For now, they survey their new prize.

Cedar waxwing.

I was thrilled to see them - turns out some live in Nanaimo at Buttertubs marsh.

I look at the device in my hand. It vibrates.

Someone is looking for me.

Or maybe something else? Because the vibration runs through me

and it’s everywhere.

I lift my eyes – trying to focus.

The vibration is now everywhere.

Where is my focus? What do I see?

I’ve lost my focus,

my own personal clarity.

I raise the device – maybe the focus is there?

I can’t find it… I’ve lost it.

The world spins around me…

Hors Focus

Great day out, Fountains Abbey

Visited Fishercap Lake in Glacier NP on this particular morning, hoping to see a moose or two before heading back to Calgary. When we arrived, another visitor told us that we just missed a bull moose, so of course we were disappointed. After sitting around for a few minutes, we decided to head back up the road to see if there were any bears out and about. Saw one at a distance and decided we to give Fishercap one last try; I don't give up easily when it comes to moose; LOL!!!!.

Sat around the shoreline, enjoying the beautiful scenery. We were amazed at how calm and peaceful the lake was, as it's generally quite windy at this location. Right about the time we were ready to give up, this bull moose appeared out of nowhere, made his way along the shore opposite us and then eventually made his way closer and closer, feeding on the vegetation in the shallow lake. A perfect ending to a fabulous trip.

Have a great Thursday.....appreciate all the visits and comments!!!!

Somewhere Out There

Linda Ronstadt

Somewhere out there,

Beneath the pale moonlight,

Someone's thinking of me,

And loving me tonight.

Somewhere out there,

Someone's saying a prayer,

That we'll find one another,

In that big somewhere out there.

And even though I know how very far apart we are,

It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star,

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby,

It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky!

Somewhere out there,

If love can see us through,

Then we'll be together,

Somewhere out there,

Out where dreams

Come true...

So, after another crazy long and hectic week at work, I needed another weekend so sleep in. But I just had to photograph something...Otherwise I start to shake. A good few years ago I tried a startrail image by taking one single frame for 10 minutes, but I've not since done it. I decided to give it another go, so, on Friday afternoon I headed off down to Bombo after work, and just made it in time for sunset. I took the FG image at sunset at 1/40 sec. The stars were 170 images taken over 1.5 hours at 30sec each, with the camera on continuous shoot mode. For a first time effort I'm happy enough, but I have learned a few valuable lessons.

A: Bring a compass to find EXACT south.

B: Shoot with an F2.8 lens instead of an F4 Super wide (this was a sigma 10-20). This lens is way too soft around the edges...I need a sharper prime methinks.

C: Improve my blending technique on PS.

D: when planning to be in a location on your own for over 3 hours,....bring more than 2 beers to keep you company.

E: Definitely do it again, but in a location where there is little to no fly path (You can see the trails from many many planes heading over the gong. The wife likes them in the shot....I'm not too keen. Also the lights from Kiama caused the glow over the quarry....not ideal, but I knew this would happen.

Anyhow, I was and am still super tired, but I had a ball. Hope you like "Somewhere Out There".....cheers, Mike

Sitting at Alamosa with nowhere to go, several narrow gauge cabooses sit out of service. With the closure of the Cumbres Pass line, the cars wait to head off to new homes. Also to be moved is long time Alamosa switcher 131. The SW1200 had been equipped to switch both standard and narrow gauge cars, but with no more narrow gauge traffic, the loco would be assigned elsewhere.

Slightly broken star trails here.

This sequence is from the trial shots...hence the gaps and things.

I figured out the settings, then left the camera taking half an hour's worth of frames with a fresh battery.

However, the camera rapidly picked up condensation, and the subsequent frames show a growing fog on the images.

Pah. So near. Been a while since I've seen the stars so bright. Lovely night!

I love that idea! I know you all have to be tiring of the Arches area now so I'm stacking a few and will leave that area for a time ... but I'll always be back as I love the area and I'ts only an hour and a half from my home.

THANKS,

Bev

On 25 June 1985, S&T work is being carried out at Clapham Junction as 'Crompton' 33037 approaches the carriage sidings from Waterloo with empty coaching stock, plus a GUV van, presumably originating from a Southampton Docks-Waterloo boat train service.

My first picture using enhanced lighting to bring out the little Chickadee's face. I ended with a simple frame - the possibilities are endless if you know how to use these features which I'm slowly learning.

Honest feedback is appreciated. ;-)
