The last two Leica clones from a line that originated with Nicca before they were bought out by Yashica. The YE in the foreground is an improved version of a Leica IIIf based on the Nicca 33, while the YF in the background is a mishmash of features gleaned from Leica IIIf and M3 models that were used on the Nicca 3L
Improvements on the YE include: Consecutive speeds on the Slow Speed dial (though they only go down to 1/2 second); Lever winding; and a better Viewfinder/Rangefinder.
The YF looks and handles like an M3, with a view/rangefinder that is equivalent to a 35mm FOV with parallax corrected fixed bright lines for 50mm and 100mm; a film loading Back Door for bottom loading; and a single stroke Winder Lever that is mounted below the top cover of the camera. The lens mount is LTM (L39, M39).
These were also the last two interchangeable lens 35mm rangefinder cameras produced by Yashica which decided they didn't want to participate in the high-end camera market, catering instead to the consumers who didn't need all the features of the YE and YF.

It's taken me a while to get this pair together. I had the Yashikor lens that came on a different camera, and the YF body, but they were not a match as the Yashikor 50/2.8 came standard on the YE, and the YF had the Yashinon 50/1.8 (later the Super-Yashinon, a change in name only for marketing purposes). I'd like to say they are ready to go now but the YF has a busted shutter curtain. Now that I have the proper lens for it, I am incentivized to send it off for repairs.

### Will Apple Listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s Criticism?
I Don’t Think So—At Least Not for Someone Enchanted by the Apple Vision Pro.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently appeared on a well-known podcast, where he criticized Apple for failing to release an innovative product since the iPhone and for experiencing a decline in sales.
Appearing on a podcast originating from Apple and then proceeding to criticize the company might seem like a lighthearted joke, but I believe he was serious.
Why? Because he now wields a weapon—the AR glasses.
With the support of various institutions and a team of highly skilled professionals, he has likely achieved some notable milestones. Yet, as someone who has been a devoted Apple user since the PowerBook 540c, I still do not sense any real craftsmanship or identity in what he creates.
This sentiment extends to other IT giants that currently dominate the world—Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and Google.
Just by listing their names, readers of this text are likely already picturing their respective CEOs.
In the past, I wrote that Steve Jobs was not an artist.
What he excelled at was weaving together scattered ideas from across the world, expanding upon them, and linking them to the future.
The true creator was Jonathan Ive.
A minority of people may share this perspective with me.
However, when I see these IT moguls quickly shifting their corporate stances the moment the possibility of Trump returning to power emerges, I feel compelled to speak my mind.
The AR glasses, the cars—everything they create lacks a fundamental concept.
Call it ideology or, in lighter terms, identity.
It is true that Tim Cook and Apple’s current team have become more prone to letting slip details about upcoming products before their official release.
I have always loved music.
Artists shut themselves in a studio, cutting off the outside world, pouring their anger, hatred, joy, and sorrow into each note with intense focus.
It’s as if they are entrusting something to their music.
And when they finally release their album, they explain the emotions and thoughts behind its creation.
(Prince, whom I admire, rarely spoke about his work, so understanding his art required engaging with the final product itself.)
Until an album is complete and released, artists say nothing.
It was those artists who moved me to my core.
The faint glow of Apple’s innovation still remains within me.
Not even last year’s widely criticized "failure"—the Apple Vision Pro—could extinguish it.
In fact, it shines even brighter than the iPhone.
Because beyond its cutting-edge electronic components, I can sense a concept, an ideology.
Unfortunately, I will never feel the same from Meta’s AR glasses or Tesla’s cars.

8mm film of our honeymoon resurrected after decades.

We found the 8mm film of our honeymoon for the first time in decades, and burned it onto a DVD.
On June 6, 1993, we got married, and headed straight to Nassau, Bahamas, via New York.
Our destination was the pink sand beach where the late Princess Diana went on her honeymoon.
If you're heading to the Bahamas, this might be a good reference.
The hotel we stayed at was the Ramada Hotel, which no longer exists.
My wife is showing us the hotel room.
But now you can see the beautiful scenery in real time.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

僕にはそう思えない。アップルヴィジョンプロに夢を見せられた僕には。
メタのマークザッカーバーグ氏は、有名なポッドキャストに出演し、アップルはアイフォン以来革新的な製品を発売せず、売り上げも落ちていると批判したようだ。
アップル発祥のポッドキャストに現れ、アップルを批判すると言うのは軽いジョークに思えるが、真剣に訴えたんだろうと僕は思う。
なぜなら、今の彼はARグラスという武器を手にしているからだ。
おそらく、さまざまな関係機関や優秀なスタッフが彼を支え、それなりの目標を達成したんだろうが、パワーブック５４０cから使い続けてきた僕のような古いアップルファンからしてみれば、まだ物作りのアイデンティを彼からはまったく感じない。
これは他の、現在世界を制覇しているIT企業らも含む。
メタ、アマゾン、テスラ。マイクロソフト。グーグル。
社名が並ぶだけで、このテキストを読まれている方は名前と顔をすでに浮かべているはずだ。

しかし、先述したIT関連の面々が、トランプ氏に再び権力が戻るとなった途端に会社の方針を覆す様子を見ていると、僕は一言、どうしても意見したいのだ。
彼らが作ったARグラスや車などには、肝心な観念が欠けている。思想という重い言葉や、軽めのアイデンティティと言い換えてもいい。
確かに、ティムクック氏やアップルの現在のスタッフらは、発売前の商品に関して口を滑らせることが多くなった。
僕は、以前から書いているように音楽が大好きだ。
外界を断ち、アーティストらがスタジオにこもって、怒りや憎しみ、喜びや悲しみを一心不乱になって一音に吹き込む。何かを託すと言ってもいい。
そして、完成したアルバムを発表し、どんな思いを込めて制作したのかを語る。（僕が好きなプリンスはほとんど語らなかったので、完成された作品を理解する必要があった）
アルバムが完成し、発表するまで、彼らはひとことも語らない。
僕の胸を震わせたのは、そんなアーティストらだった。
僕の中に淡く灯っているアップルの革新性は、いまでも消えていない。
それは昨年、大失敗だと批判されたアップルヴィジョンプロでさえも消すことはできない。むしろ、アイフォン以上の強烈な光を放っている。
ただの斬新な電化製品ではなく、細かな電気部品の向こうに観念や思想を感じるからだ。
残念ながら、メタのARグラスやテスラの車に、僕がその観念や思想を感じることは今後もないだろう。

１９９３年６月６日、僕らは結婚し、そのままニューヨークを経由して、バハマのナッソーへ向かいました。
目的地は、亡くなられたダイアナ妃が新婚旅行へ向かったピンクサンドビーチです。
もしもこれからバハマへ向かうならば、参考に見てもよいかもしれません。
泊まったホテルは、今はもうないラマダホテル。
妻がホテルの部屋を紹介しています。
でも、今はリアルタイムで美しい景色が見られますね。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

The nickname for Amersfoort, Keistad (boulder-city), originates in the Amersfoortse Kei, a 9-tonne (19,842 lb) boulder that was dragged from the Soest moors into the city in 1661 by 400 people because of a bet between two landowners. The people got their reward when the winner bought everyone beer and pretzels. Other nearby towns then nicknamed the people of Amersfoort Keientrekker (boulder-dragger/puller). This story embarrassed the inhabitants, and they buried the boulder in the city in 1672, but after it was found again in 1903 it was placed in a prominent spot as a monument. There are not many boulders in the Netherlands, so it can be regarded as an icon.
Modern Christmas trees originated during the Renaissance in early modern Germany.
Its 16th-century origins are sometimes associated with Protestant Christian reformer Martin Luther, who is said to have first added lighted candles to an evergreen tree.
The Christmas tree was first recorded to be used by German Lutherans in the 16th century, with records indicating that a Christmas tree was placed in the Cathedral of Strasbourg in 1539, under the leadership of the Protestant Reformer, Martin Bucer.
The Moravian Christians put lighted candles on those trees.

Los árboles de Navidad modernos se originaron durante el Renacimiento en la Alemania moderna temprana.
Sus orígenes del siglo XVI a veces se asocian con el reformador cristiano protestante Martín Lutero, de quien se dice que fue el primero en agregar velas encendidas a un árbol de hoja perenne.
El árbol de Navidad se registró por primera vez para ser utilizado por luteranos alemanes en el siglo XVI, con registros que indican que se colocó un árbol de Navidad en la Catedral de Estrasburgo en 1539, bajo el liderazgo del reformador protestante, Martin Bucer.
Los cristianos moravos pusieron velas encendidas en esos árboles.

I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasized without the colour. Don't you agree?

The place where the two rivers Kuban and Bolshoe Zelenchuk merge, originating in the Caucasian mountains near Mount Elbrus. Now there is very little water and I walked along the bottom, which was bare. In the summer, when the mountains are raining and melting glaciers, it's all covered with water.
A military train that originated on the Union Pacific, running as W873 on CSX, tears through the small town of Vandalia, IL. The Vandalia Railroad's SW9 can be seen sitting in the background, along with the tower that once protected the diamond here between the Pennsylvania (CSX) and the Illinois Central (VRRC).

With the exception of originating and terminating terminal changes (from originating at BNSF's Willow Springs, IL, to CSX's Bedford Park, IL, and terminating at Port Newark, NJ, instead of Little Ferry, NJ) and one digit in the train symbol (from "Q110"), CSX hotshot train Q010 has remained the same UPS train on the same schedule for at least the twenty one years since the Conrail takeover. Q010 usually sees a sea of clear signals on its route. On this particular day, he's highballing past the Purina Foods elevator in Milford Jct., near Milford, Indiana on CSX's former B&O Garrett Subdivision.

Ranunculus
This flower originates from the Middle East and belongs to the Buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). It is pronounced ran-UN-kew-lus. The Latin name ranunculus means "little frog".
I bought these yesterday as soon as I saw this intricate structure within the centre of the flower. I could have photographed them for ages - each stage of the flower from bud to bloom has so many interesting textures and structures. (I have some other views in my photostream)

Originating 60 million years ago, it’s one of the oldest living species on the planet and the only native North American tortoise species east of the Mississippi River. The gopher tortoise range is from southern South Carolina through the southern half of Georgia, into Florida.
Gopher tortoises are a keystone species, meaning they have an outsized impact on their environment. This impact is largely due to their burrows. Gopher tortoises have large, elephantine hind limbs and flattened, shovel-like forelimbs that are uniquely designed to dig burrows up to 40 feet long and 10 feet wide. Equinacea originates from North America and was employed by the indigenous Indians. Information about the use of the plant from traditional healers ranges from external application for wounds, burns and insect bites to the chewing of roots for toothache and throat infections, and internal application for pain, coughs, stomach cramps and snake bites.
The interest of white settlers was also drawn to this medicinal plant. The first Echinacea preparation, known as Meyers Blood Purifier, arrived on the market around 1880, with rheumatism, neuralgia and rattlesnake bites as indications. At the beginning of the 20th century, Echinacea was the most frequently used plant preparation in the USA.
Commercial cultivation was started in Germany around 1939. Chemists and pharmacologists became interested in Echinacea and many constituents are now known, such as polysaccharides, echinacoside, cichoric acid, ketoalkenes and alkylamides. The extracts exhibit immunostimulant properties and are mainly used in the prophylaxis and therapy of colds, flu and septic complaints.

The name Shepherd's Bush is thought to have originated from the use of the common land here as a resting point for shepherds on their way to Smithfield Market in the City of London.
An alternative theory is that it could have been named after someone in the area, because in 1635 the area was recorded as "Sheppards Bush Green".
Originating out Buddy Holly’s hometown of Lubbock, TX, BNSF 7369 West leads a unit train of cotton seed through the Tehachapis on its way north to Stockton. The distributed power on this movement was reminiscent of long heavy SP trains that once utilized swing and rear end helper sets on the mountain to help keep tonnage rolling.
The samosa is claimed to have originated in the Middle East (where it is known as sambosa) prior to the 10th century. Abolfazl Beyhaqi (995-1077), an Iranian historian, mentioned it in his history, Tarikh-e Beyhaghi.
Samosas were introduced to the Indian subcontinent in the 13th or 14th century by traders from Central Asia. In Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Xinjiang, samosas are known as samsas. They are almost always baked and never fried. The traditional samsa is often baked in the tandoor, which is a special clay oven. The dough can be a simple bread dough, or a layered pastry dough. The most common filling for traditional samsa is a mixture of minced lamb and onions, but chicken, minced beef, and cheese varieties are also quite common from street vendors. Samosas with other fillings, such as potato or pumpkin (usually only when in season), can also be found. Central Asian samsa resemble buns stuffed with beef or lamb and vegetables.
In Central Asia, samsas (samosas) are often sold on the streets as a hot snack. They are sold at kiosks, where only samosas are made, or alternatively, at kiosks where other fast foods (such as hamburgers) are sold. Many grocery stores also buy samosas from suppliers and resell them.

After getting their blocks from the dispatcher, northbound CSX empty coal train U090-26 is finally back onto home rails as they roll over the switch to the former house track and pass the Robinette Steel scrapyard where numerous train pictures have been taken in the past half-century on the morning of January 30, 2021, in Cadet, VA.
The Havanese originated in Cuba and was created to play with children in the 17th century. Their lineage can be traced to the European Bichon. Breeding of the Havanese in the states began in the early 70s when a family immigrated from Cuba. The Havanese was first registered by the AKC in 1995 and grouped as Toy. The Havanese is faithful, friendly and very playful. They are devoted and will defend their owners. This breed can also learn commands quickly and excels in obedience training. Overall the Havanese loves attention from humans and does well with children and other pets.

This beautiful plant or vegetable commonly known as a tomato plant, which belongs to the nightshade family, Solanaceae. The species originated in Central and South America. The Nahuatl (Aztec language) word tomatl gave rise to the Spanish word "tomate", from which the English word tomato originates.
Numerous varieties of tomato are widely grown in temperate climates across the world, with greenhouses allowing its production throughout the year and in cooler areas. The plants typically grow to 1–3 meters (3–10 ft) in height and have a weak stem that often sprawls over the ground and vines over other plants. It is a perennial in its native habitat, and grown as an annual in temperate climates. An average common tomato weighs approximately 100 grams (4 oz). Its use as a food originated in Mexico, and spread throughout the world following the Spanish colonization of the Americas. Tomato is consumed in diverse ways, including raw, as an ingredient in many dishes, sauces, salads, and drinks. Originating in 1924. The first owner was Mr. Jankauskas. The back side of the house is facing Parodos street, unlike other neighbouring houses.
The house has a rectangular plan and has a rather rare form of gambrel roof. A glazed veranda is asymmetrically placed on the narrow street facade.

The Tropheus Duboisi Cichlid originates from the rocky coastal waters of Northern Lake Tanganyika, Africa. They are a beautiful species and are completely black as a juvenile with many white spots. As they mature, the spots fade and their head takes on a blue coloration. This variety of Tropheus Duboisi develops a wide yellow band just behind the pectoral fins. Like other species in the Tropheus genus, they are extremely aggressive towards their own kind, and should be housed in large groups of 6 or more. They are a very personable fish that do best in a species specific aquarium.
The Cape Cod Central Railroad's 5 PM dinner train which originated at North Falmouth on the remains of the former New Haven Woods Hole Branch made a run south down the Cape Main as far as the great marshes in Barnstable and is now headed back north to Canal Junction to get out of the way back on the Falmouth Line just ahead of the 7:10 PM arrival of the southbound CapeFLYER from Boston. They are seen here at about MP 59.6 on the MassDOT owned and Mass Coastal Railroad Cape Mainline as rhey approach the switch at the south end of the 1500 ft Sagamore siding.
On the north end of the five car train is FL9 2026 which was blt. Sept. 1957 as New Haven 2007 while on the south end is three year younger sister 2011 blt. Sep. 1960 as NH 2038. Both of these units are very much on home rails as FL9s were common on the New Haven's passenger trains here until the cessation of service at the end of the 1964 summer season.
This view is taken from the sidewalk on the east side of the Sagamore Bridge looking compass east (railroad south) toward Cape Cod Bay. Immediately above the train is the blue water of the canal and on the shore can be seen US Coast Guard Station Cape Cod with the bay the first line of trees and the outer Cape toward Wellfleet the second line of trees on the horizon. The smokestack in the background belongs the Canal Generating plant the first unit of which opened in 1968. Per owner JERA Americas: "Canal Generation Station, is a multi-unit facility totaling 1,458 MW. This includes a 333 MW gas-fueled GE simple cycle peaking unit along with two large thermal units." Originally oil fired it was an important railroad customer and for years the Bay Colony Railroad shipped out the fly ash from the plant which was basically pure vanadiam ore and was loaded into gondolas at the Gallo siding in the building seen at the bottom of this photo. Alas that business disappeared when the plant converted to clean burning natural gas that produced no ash.
The bridge I'm standing on was built between 1933 and 1935 by the Public Works Adminstration (along with its sister span the Bourne Bridge to the west) and is 1408 ft long and 275 ft high with a rather narrow 40 ft width for four lanes. The bridges became necessary after the government purchased the privately owned toll canal in 1928 and began widening and deepening it between 1935 and 1940.
