My First night at Zion.
Everything we are and everything in the universe and on Earth originated from stardust, and it continually floats through us even today. It directly connects us to the universe, rebuilding our bodies over and over again during our lifetimes.
This was shot along the watchman Trail, My original Plan was to shoot the MW on the other side of the Watchman formation, but I was running late and had to stop here and shoot. If I waited any longer I would lose the core off the right side of the composition, so when I saw this fence I knew that would help with the layering in the scene. I tried to get some light on the fence coming in from the left but not draw the eye away from the Milky Way and hoping to keep the brightness visible in the galactic core, so this time I had a couple of subway napkins over the front of my light panel to dim down the foreground(a tip I learned from Wayne) and somewhat layer the scene if you will. :)
If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to take a look at my photos and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great weekend everyone :)
The phrase originates with the practice of professional photographers taking photographs of small children. Photographers often try to distract the child with an interesting toy held to the side of the camera, so that the child will be looking toward the camera when the picture is taken.
The phrase continued on to be the words of choice used by photographers everywhere to command the attention of their subjects.
'Say cheese' is of course another popular and well known phrase.
Actually.... if the truth be known, the people on the pier seemed more fixed on and/or intrigued with what I was doing with my camera, rather than that of the fly by seagull..
Enkianthus
Enkianthus campanulatus originates from Japan. The branches of this upright plant are usually in whorls. The flowers of Enkianthus campanulatus bloom in the period (end) April-May and consist of large hanging clusters. Each cluster consists of numerous urn-shaped yellow-pink striped flowers

If you do not prune the Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin', white flowers appear in umbels from May to July. In winter the leaf turns brownish red.
The photina fraseri originates from the Himalayas and grows there at a great height. Because there is often snow at this height, the glossy medlar protects its new young leaves against the bright (reflecting) sunlight by turning red. Red leaves generally tolerate more sunlight than green leaves. By protecting itself in this way, it is an extremely strong plant that adapts well to its environme
Phalaenopsis Orchids Are Nicknamed ‘Moth orchids’
You may have heard Phalaenopsis orchids called “moth orchids” before. While it might seem like the nickname originated from the appearance of the blooms — which do look like a pretty moth taking flight — the actual reason for the nickname goes much deeper. “Phalaenopsis” comes from the Latin word “phal,” which translates to “moth.” Of course, this isn’t a coincidence: Carl Ludwig Blume, who gave Phalaenopsis orchids their name, supposedly chose it due to the moth resemblance.
The Phalaenopsis Fragrance Is Most Pronounced at Sunrise
If you’ve ever woken up in the morning to the sweet smell of orchids and wondered why your nose was so keen to the scent in the early morning, it turns out there’s actually a reason for that. The lightly sweet smell of a flowering orchid is actually most pronounced at sunrise.
Phalaenopsis Orchids Grow Naturally in Trees
Even though we’re so conditioned to see them in pots, Phalaenopsis orchids actually naturally grow in trees. However, while they like to use trees as their grounding place, orchids don’t actually extract nutrients from their host tree. They have aerial roots that curl around tree trunks and branches, rather than burrow into soil.
Phalaenopsis Orchids can get Sunburned
You likely already know that you shouldn’t put your orchid in direct sunlight, but did you know that doing so can actually cause your plant to develop a sunburn? Rather than turning red, a sunburned orchid will have withered, yellowed leaves or develop brown and white splotches. If this happens, move your orchid to a shadier spot immediately and do your best to keep your plant hydrated.
Phalaenopsis Orchids are Native to Southeast Asia
If you’ve ever wondered where your orchids originate from, here’s your answer: Southeast Asia. However, you’ll also find Phals native to the Philippines and Australia.
Phalaenopsis Orchids Can Take Up to a Year To Flower
Most Phalaenopsis take their sweet time to flower. Luckily, unless you’re an orchid grower, most plant owners don’t have to wait through this process. By the time you purchase your orchid, it should either already be in a blooming cycle or have buds ready to burst.
This is basically an overlay of one of my photos (grass covered in melted hoarfrost in the sunlight) with a digitally created image (T2D, DDG) I have decided to texture it since I liked the patterns of light on the face originating from the photo but wanted to soften them for better balance.
This plant originates from North and Central Africa, where it was found along the Nile River in Egypt. For thousands of years it was used by Egyptians and Mayans as part of funerary ceremonies

The river originates in the Králický Sněžník mountains in north-western Moravia, not far from the border with Poland. The lowlands formed by the river are the Upper Moravian Vale or Hornomoravský úval and then the Lower Morava Valley or Dolnomoravský úval in Moravia, the Morava Field or Marchfeld in Lower Austria, and the Záhorie Lowland or Záhorská nížina in Slovakia. The latter three are actually continuous parts of one large basin, forming the major part of the Vienna Basin.
In the Czech Republic, there are some larger towns lying upon Morava, particularly Olomouc, Kroměříž, Otrokovice, Uherské Hradiště and Hodonín. Brno, the second largest city of Czech Republic, lies within the river basin.[1] The catchment area of the river has a population of c. 3,5 million people.[1] Downstream from Hodonín, the river flows along sparsely inhabited, forested border area, all the way to its outfall into the Danube, just below the Devín Castle at the outskirts of the Slovak capital Bratislava. After 352 km (219 mi) of its course, the Morava feeds the Danube by an average discharge rate of 110 m3/s (3,900 cu ft/s), gathered from a drainage area of 26,658 km2 (10,293 sq mi).
The Western Wall, also known as the "Wailing Wall" or the "Kotel," is one of the most significant religious and historical sites in Jerusalem, Israel. It holds deep spiritual and emotional importance for Jews worldwide, and it has also become a symbol of the complex and often contentious nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Western Wall is a remnant of the ancient retaining wall that once surrounded the Second Temple, which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. After the temple's destruction, the Western Wall became the closest accessible site for Jewish prayer and pilgrimage. For centuries, Jews from around the world have come to this sacred site to pray, lament the destruction of the temple, and express their connection to Jewish heritage.
The name "Wailing Wall" originates from the 19th and early 20th centuries when Jews would gather at the site to mourn the destruction of the temple and express their sorrow through prayers and tears. The term "Kotel" means "wall" in Hebrew and has become a popular and endearing name for the site.
Over time, the Western Wall has evolved into a focal point of religious and nationalist tensions between Israelis and Palestinians. The site is located in the Old City of Jerusalem, which is also part of the contested area between Israel and Palestine. Its significance to both Jewish and Muslim communities has led to disputes and occasional clashes.
The Western Wall plaza is divided into two sections: one for men and the other for women, following Orthodox Jewish tradition. The prayers and rituals conducted here are a mix of individual devotion, communal worship, and celebrations during religious holidays.
In addition to its religious importance, the Western Wall draws millions of tourists and visitors from various backgrounds each year, offering them a glimpse into the rich history and cultural diversity of Jerusalem.
Despite the ongoing complexities surrounding the Western Wall and its geopolitical context, it remains an essential and cherished place for Jewish people, symbolizing resilience, faith, and the connection to their shared heritage.
Jizera Mountains - Jizerské hory
The Bílý Štolpich stream originates west of Holubník mountain and flows to Ferdinandov, where it flows into the Černý Štolpich. In the places where the stream enters the Jizerskohorská bučiny nature reserve, the stream bed drops sharply and breaks through the boulders. In some places, the flow of water reaches over the boulders and creates waterfalls on them.
In the photo, it is probably the most striking and the most beautiful waterfall, which is located up to 1 km further. It is almost 3 meters high and more than 10 meters wide. Unlike the previous waterfalls, its bedrock is not made up of boulders, but solid rock.
The Highland is a Scottish breed of rustic cattle. It originated in the Scottish Highlands and the Outer Hebrides islands of Scotland and has long horns and a long shaggy coat. It is a hardy breed, bred to withstand the intemperate conditions in the region.
Highland cattle descend from the Hamitic Longhorn, which were brought to Britain by Neolithic farmers in the second millennium BC, as the cattle migrated northwards through Africa and Europe. Highland cattle were historically of great importance to the economy, with the cattle being raised for meat primarily and sold in England.
The 1885 herd book describes two distinct types of Highland cattle. One was the West Highland, or Kyloe, originating and living mostly in the Outer Hebrides, which had harsher conditions. These cattle tended to be smaller, to have black coats and, due to their more rugged environment, to have long hair. These cattle were named due to the practice of relocating them. The kyles are narrow straits of water, and the cattle were driven across them to get to market.
The other type was the mainland; these tended to be larger because their pastures provided richer nutrients. They came in a range of colours, most frequently dun or red.[6] These types have now been crossbred so that there is no distinct difference.
Since the early 20th century, breeding stock has been exported to many parts of the world, especially Australia and North America.
It is estimated that there are now around 15,000 Highland cattle in the United Kingdom.
Google Tr/ Dettifoss falls originate from the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum which descends from the famous Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe and flows into the Greenland Sea to the north. A very long canyon crosses the desert landscape of the region and the Jökulsá á Fjöllum therefore offers us several magnificent waterfalls in the process. We find Selfoss, first, then Dettifoss, the most famous, and two other waterfalls Fossvogur and Hafragilsfoss located a few kilometers downstream.
Dettifoss is very powerful and the crashing of water on the ground can be heard from afar. Also, we can guess that we are approaching a powerful waterfall when we see for miles the mist that rises very high above the waterfall.
On site, you can really get very close to the waterfall, the noise is totally deafening and you really realize the incredible power of the waterfall.

The crepe actually originated in Brittany, in the northwest corner of France, where they still make sweet crepes or galettes, which are filled with savories and cheeses or served as a dessert crepe.
In medieval times, peasants presented crepes to their feudal lords as a demonstration of loyalty. In the Breton town of Quimper they actually have a museum celebrating the history of crepes. It's located in Place au Beurre or Butter Square!
Today in France crepes are served everywhere, on the streets, in restaurants and bistros, as well as the home. Crepe Day is celebrated on February 2.
The crepe was brought to America in the 1930s by French Chef Henri Charpentier. He claimed to have been the one to create and serve the original Crepes Suzette to the future King Edward VII in Monte Carlo.
Originated in South Africa and is a semi aquatic plant. Flourishes in areas with lots of moisture especially here in Florida.
A Repost - Today is the "Dragon Boat Festival Day, 2022. This is the food we eat in memory of such officer (read the background story below). You know, this holiday falls on a different day each year. That's why I totally forgot about it, but, I'll make it one of these days when I'm in the mood. It's a lot of work. My family love it. I taught myself to make them when I first came to the US, and craving for them. My zongzi is quite delicious, has got rave review. :-))
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Many believe that the Dragon Boat Festival originated in ancient China based on the suicide of the poet and statesman of the Chu kingdom, Qu Yuan in 278 BCE.
The festival commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar Qu Yuan, who was a loyal minister of the King of Chu in the third century BCE. Qu Yuan’s wisdom and intellectual ways antagonized other court officials, thus they accused him of false charges of conspiracy and was exiled by the king. During his exile, Qu Yuan composed many poems to express his anger and sorrow towards his sovereign and people.
Qu Yuan drowned himself by attaching a heavy stone to his chest and jumping into the Miluo River in 278 BCE at the age of 61. The people of Chu tried to save him believing that Qu Yuan was an honorable man; they searched desperately in their boats looking for Qu Yuan but were unable to save him. Every year the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated to commemorate this attempt at rescuing Qu Yuan.
The local people began the tradition of throwing sacrificial cooked rice into the river for Qu Yuan, while others believed that the rice would prevent the fishes in the river from eating Qu Yuan’s body. At first, the locals decided to make zongzi in hopes that it would sink into the river and reach Qu Yuan's body. However, the tradition of wrapping the rice in bamboo leaves to make zongzi began the following year."
The Plumeria originates from the Caribbean.
Spanish priests have taken this beautiful plant to America. The plant is also distributed to Australian by Polynesian missionaries and from there further distributed by Catholic missionaries. The Plumeria has a special significance in Polynesian culture. This is because the flower is worn there by women to show whether they are looking for a relationship. Does the woman wear the flower over her right ear? Then she is searching. If she carries flower over her left ear it means that she is busy. In the Hindu culture, the flower is a symbol of loyalty.
Una National Park. Una is a wonderful river that originates in Croatia, then passes through Bosnia and Herzegovina, and forms a part of its course as a natural border between these two countries until it reaches the mouth of the Sava not far from Jasenovac. From the source itself, which is truly beautiful, Una enchants with its beauty. In several places, Una created wonderful travertine waterfalls, one of them is Milančev buk in Martin Brod.. Una National Park is situated in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, mainly in the area of Bihac municipality and to a lesser extent in the municipality of Bosanski Petrovac and Drvar.
Una National Park stretches along the Croatian border and it is only cca 30 kilometers away from Plitvice Lakes National Park and 115 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea.
That “peace” sign originated as a symbol for nuclear disarmament back in the 1950s post-War II period. It is originally conceived as a semaphore signal to stop. The letter N and D are scripted into the circle to represent the words “Nuclear” and “Disarmament.” In the 60s it was co-opted to represent the American led war in Vietnam’s anti war movement.
Tulips originated in Asia and were brought to Europe during the 16th century. By the 17th century Holland was experiencing a Golden Age. There was a lot of demand for luxury items such as tulips, by the newly rich. The bi-color tulips were rare enough to command high prices and demand soon outstripped supply. Prices escalated tempting even tradesmen to give up their professions and trade in tulip bulbs. 312
"Turopolje pigs are named for the 'Turopolje' region of Croatia where they originated during the reign of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
The animals are extremely robust and are happy to spend the entire year outdoors thanks to their layer of fat, which can grow up to 15 centimetres thick. That makes them ideal for organic farming with extensive free-range farming.
The increasing demand for lean meat and the Serbian-Croatian war in the 1990s took this breed to the brink of extinction. Two boars and two sows, which arrived at Schönbrunn Zoo in 1994, contributed significantly to the survival of the breed." (Information board text)
Alara Stream
Alara Stream is a stream that originates from the Akdağ and Kuşak mountains of 2.647 altitude in the Central Taurus Mountains and flows through the greenery of about 62 km and pours into the Mediterranean. Its current name is Ulugüney Stream. It can be reached from Okurcalar Town of Alanya.
The Alara Region, where the stream passes, has been a settlement for many seafaring communities throughout history. It was used as a stopping point for caravans on the Silk Road during the Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman Empire times.
The rafting and canoe trail above the Alara Stream starts in Güzelbağ and ends at Alara Castle. In Alara Stream, which has many fish restaurants around, you can also have picnic, swimming, hiking, fishing and photographing activities. You can visit Alara Castle and Alara Han. Swimming in the very cool waters of the stream is a pleasure in extreme heat. Alara Han is approximately 38 km from Alanya and 39 km from Side. You can spend a nice day in the region with history and natural beauties.
Hoh River, Olympic National Park, Washington
In honor of the birthday of Olympic National Park (it officially became a national park on June 29th, 1938) I thought I would post a photo of the beautiful Hoh River that is one of the central features of the park. It originates from the Hoh Glacier on Mount Olympus, winds it way through the park and terminates in the Pacific Ocean along the edge of the coastal boundary of the park.
This section is located in the Hoh Rainforest along the Hoh River Trail.
This cockatoo is originated from the Wallacea. It was introduced to Hong Kong and adapted to the urban area. You can spot it easily in the urban parks in Hong Kong Island. However, it is a critically endangered species due to cagebird trade and the wild population is less than 2,500. Photo taken in Hong Kong. Jan 2021.
Hyacinths originated in the eastern Mediterranean and were brought further west by the Greeks and Romans.
Homer mentions hyacinths in the Odyssey to represent a kind of classical beauty associated with Greek traditions.
Edgar Allan Poe had also a "botanist's obsession" suggesting that Helen's hair resembles the bunchy shape of the hyacinth in his famous poem:
"On desperate seas long wont to roam,
Thy hyacinth hair, thy classic face,
Thy Naiad airs have brought me home
To the glory that was Greece
And the grandeur that was Rome."
by Edgar Allan Poe (To Helen, stanza 2)
The appropriately named Steep Bank Creek originates in Oyster Creek more than 3 miles north as the Great Blue Heron flies, wends it way west, then east, passing by my subdivision 1 mile to the north where it drains Double Lake during heavy rains. It then flows on to Riverstone Wetlands where this photo was taken, then south for 4 more miles as that Heron flies where it joins the Brazos River, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico. That’s the optimistic scenario, of course. Speaking of that Great Blue Heron, here it is in Steep Bank Creek, Sugar Land, Texas.
No longer limited to white and various shades of lavender and purple, high quality flowers are available in the entire color spectrum (except true blue) and in a wide range of plant sizes. Most Cattleyas and their relatives are easy to grow. With reasonable care, they can be grown anywhere in the world."
08-January-2022: the Obrh stream with its two branches, originates in the East of this partially impermeable karst basin, comes from the subsoil of the Babno Polje basin, which, on the other hand, is mainly porous and permeable.
The difference in soils is probably the basis of the greater thermal excursion and liveliness of the less humid polje of Babno compared to this topographically very similar area.
The water it receives is mainly (a little part of) that of the forest of Mount Snežnik, whose area (Snežnika) is the rainiest in the Karst Region and among the rainiest in Europe (up to 3000mm/y); another small part comes from the reliefs to the North and North-East, Bloke and Racna gora.
Officially the Obrh is the first stretch of the "Many Names River" which then sinks again and re-emerges 4 more times, in as many valleys/basins, respectively with the names of Jezerščica/Stržen, Rak, Unica and Ljubljanica (it is one of the main karst springs of this right tributary of the Sava).
Therefore, the waters in the photo, less than 50 linear kilometers from the Adriatic, like all those of the inner part of the Karst Region-Notranjska, end up in the far Black Sea.
Seen this way, it looks like a peaceful country stream, actually giving birth to one of the largest and most complex karst cave systems in the world, largely unexplored.
Buren is a town and municipality in the Betuwe region of the Netherlands. The name originated from the word the Dutch word “buren”, which means neighbour.
The earliest known settlement of the region occurred as early as 772.The castle was built by the Lords of Buren and was first mentioned in 1298. The town was granted city rights in 1395 by Sir Alard IV of Buren which led to the construction of a defensive wall and a moat, significant portions of which still stand. In 1492, the region was promoted to a county but had limited economic influence due to its geographic isolation. By 1574, the previously Catholic parish church of Saint-Lambert became Calvinist Reformed Protestant.
The Castle eventually came into the possession of the House of Orange, the royal family of the Netherlands. The Dutch royal family has been known to use the name van Buren as an alias to give themselves some degree of anonymity. William III of England obtained the title Buren. The Dutch royal family, still use this as a title. The Castle was gradually demolished between 1804 and 1883. The eighth president of the United States, Martin Van Buren, traced his ancestry to inhabitants of the city, who had taken the surname Van Buren after relocating to the Dutch colony of New Netherland in what is now the state of New York.
These cattle tended to be smaller, to have black coats and, due to their more rugged environment, to have long hair. These cattle were named due to the practice of relocating them. The kyles are narrow straits of water, and the cattle were driven across them to get to market.
The other type was the mainland; these tended to be larger because their pastures provided richer nutrients. They came in a range of colours, most frequently dun or red. These types have now been crossbred so that there is no distinct difference.
Since the early 20th century, breeding stock has been exported to many parts of the world, especially Australia and North America.
It is estimated that there are now around 15,000 Highland cattle in the United Kingdom.
