A wild baboon with newborn baby. We were very lucky to happen upon this scene mere minutes after she had given birth. We watched them for quite awhile, as she cleaned up the area and the baby began trying to open its eyes. Cape Point, South Africa.

The origins of The Garth, also known as The Garth Pleasure Grounds, go back to 1729 when the Lingfield parish drew up a contract, with a local carpenter Thomas Stanford, to build a new workhouse at a cost of £290. It provided basic schooling for boys making shoes, hats, bonnets and waistcoats.

The garden at the Garth covers 9 acres and was designed in 1919 by a distinguished historic Arts and Crafts buildings and landscape architect Walter H Godfrey (1881-1961). “The Garth Pleasure Grounds” as the garden was described, includes various features designed by Godfrey such as a terrace, gazebo, pergola, bird bath, well, the courtyard bench, small fountain and ornate iron gates.

The grounds were altered in the late 20th Century but a plan of the garden from 1922 shows that it retained many key features from Godfrey’s original design. The garden is subdivided into many separate ‘rooms’, often by hedges or walls, and with paths linking the individual areas. The garden represents an idyllic setting surrounding the former parish workhouse which was also refurbished by Godfrey.

Picnic boxes are available only by prior arrangement via email.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be available for June and July open garden dates.

•Un premier ABR liant DRHC à la population Inuit ;

•Un deuxième ABR liant DRHC à la nation Crie ;

•Un troisième ABR liant DRHC aux communautés algonquines de Barrière Lake, Wolf Lake et du Témiskaming ;

How do we want to get around in the future? Do we want to get from point A to point B as fast as we can or in a way that is as environmentally friendly as possible—or both? We will use simple materials (like balloons and wooden wheels) to demonstrate and experiment with basic technical phenomena like propulsion. Then, creative youngsters can try their hands at building futuristic vehicles of their own.

There can be no doubt about the contrasting layers of rock in the Grand Canyon, seen so clearly in Blacktail Canyon. What is in doubt is how it got there. The traditional explanation assumes long periods of time, but a few maverick geologists say that is imposible. The layers show no erosion or chemical effacement that accompany long periods. Instead, the layers must have been laid down quickly in a catastrophe.

I'm in the process of redesigning my "Punk Rock: Origins!" stamp series. Here is the layout that I'm working with right now. If you can't tell, it's part of a decked-out leather jacket. I was thinking a lot about Klimt when I was making this, and ways that I could use studs/spikes/zippers/stitching/paint as compositional elements rather than as an attempt to render a realistic-looking jacket.

A couple things:

There are actually 5 different stamps (not including the title stamp), so the final wouldn't be Joey Ramone all over the place. Each stamp would repeat once for a total of 10 on the composition.

This is the UNTEXTURED version, intended to get a feel for the layout. This whole thing will be texturized + drawn better for the final.

The red and brown in the upper-right will be a bandana (paisley pattern) and an aged cotton shirt, respectively.

I'm planning on not using actual photographs of studs/spikes/zippers but instead building them and texturizing them. I'm not going for total realism here--hopefully I can find a nice middle-ground between real + unreal that will sit well with this context.

Those circular things are going to be spikes, hopefully.

The stamps are the sticker kind, so there won't be any perforation (I thought it would clash with the stitching around the edges). Also, I'm thinking less stitching in general for the patches (stamps).

Thoughts?
