From L to R, Ray, Ross, and Peter. All three were WAY awesome, and very good at Are You a Werewolf. I'd very much like to be able to play with all of them next year.
Ray is also screamingly gay. It's stunning how impressively he sets off my gaydar.

Here's a quick write up - Masters of the Universe Origins: Battle Cat.
After months of walking through the wastelands of Walmart and Toys R Us, I finally came across something I hadn't seen before - Battle Cat.
Well, sort of.
Nostalgia is a big seller, and what Mattel has done this year is to release Masters of the Universe toys that share an aesthetic with the original 1980s figures, but with improved articulation. Battle Cat is, for the uninitiated, Prince Adam's pet tiger Cringer with a serious case of Roid Rage, going from timid and gentle to battle ready after being zapped by the Sword of Power, wielded by Heman himself.
Despite being an 80's kid, the only Master of the Universe figure I ever owned was Stondar.. that was it. I of course had played with them as a kid, but if it didn't transform, I wasn't interested in owning one.
The original Battle Cat was pretty much just a fixed posed statue with removable armour that revealed a green Tiger. This new version improves upon this by giving him decent articulation - the tail moves, the legs pivot, the front and rear limbs can further rotate and pivot, and there's head/neck articulation along with an opening jaw.
Sadly no ankle articulation, so the paws are in a fixed position, which as you can imagine limits what you can do. I also wish the limbs could splay outward a bit more.
The plastics are obviously different from back in the day, with the armour being more rigid and matte than what I remember.
One thing I wished they had kept in the 80s are the paint applications on the thing. While I get this is a $25 USD figure, Battle Cat's eyes are just horrible on both the armour and the figure itself and the paint inside the mouth is... acceptable at best.
By itself, Battle Cat is.. alright. I mean, it's a decent sized animal/vehicle, but chances are you're not buying him because you like green cats. You're buying him, because he's gonna be a killer ride for your action figures.
The actual Heman figures themselves are about 5 inches tall, so that's kind of your baseline. I can only say for sure that clearly Figma and Figuarts, wardrobe permitting, can sit on Battle Cat and looks like a million bucks, but at the end of the day so long as you can get the figure to sit in the saddle then your job is done.
That's about all there is to say about Battle Cat... now if you'll excuse me, Hulk needs to spend some more quality time with him.

-Oree Original
Pueblo Nuevo presents, ORIGIN, the first solo exhibit by Oree Original (aka Daniel Jimenez). This new series of paintings are intensely bright, kaleidoscope-like puzzles that evoke pre-Columbian iconography remixed with Oree's personal mythology of our universe. Triangles, circles, squares and lines are used to construct complicated hypnotic patterns which form larger entities. Different combinations of these basic shapes, coupled with the vibrating relationships of solid colors give Oree's creations a seemingly infinite life with endless possibilities of their origins.
Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Oree moved to the Bay Area to begin an internship with Pueblo Nuevo and continue building on a career as a self taught visual artist. Currently residing in Berkeley, Oree has gained quite a reputation on dance floors of nightclubs and house parties all over the Bay. Only being kicked out of a handful of venues, he continues to steal hearts with his impeccable flowing locks.

« ORIGINE »
