Deze "VSOE" bestond uit de volgende 15 rijtuigen (vanaf de locomotief gezien);

- 3309,

- 3553,

- 3482,

- 3555,

- 3525,

- 3912,

- 3674,

- 4095,

- 4141,

- 4110,

- 3915,

- 3544,

- 3552,

- 3483 en

- 3473.

A mix of McDonnell Douglas Corp. artist’s concepts for the National Aerospace Plane (NASP). The two aircraft depicted are obviously not the same. The one depicted in the upper right might actually be a proposal for the “Orient Express”. And I believe the vehicle to the lower right is actually the company's Trans-Atmospheric Vehicle (TAV), which appears to be supported in these depictions:

Who knows what the cockpit belongs to. Possibly the TAV? It has a really military look to it. Would the pilot be wearing a pressure suit flying the Orient Express/NASP/X-30? At that altitude it might actually make sense in case of rapid depressurization of the cockpit...idk. Year range is a total SWAG.

Interesting that both of these concepts lack a central vertical stabilizer, as did the final ‘combined effort’ NASP concept. And…damn…not 2, not 3, but FOUR display screens, AND the large display ‘looking out the window’. It must also be a display. It has labels/tags/identifiers of some sort and no clouds. If not, then it’s a real shitty depiction of the Nordic countries. 😉

Orient Express La Dolce Vita pays tribute to 'La Dolce Vita'

The concept for the new Orient Express La Dolce Vita trains pay tribute to “La Dolce Vita”, a historical period of glamour, joie de vivre and artistic fervour in Italy during the 1960s.

With support from Accor, La Dolce Vita train’s official hospitality partner, and thanks to the partnership with Trenitalia and Fondazione FS Italiane, the journey invites passengers to travel through more than 16,000 km of workable railway lines - 7,000 km of which are not electrified and are vestiges of Italy’s storied history.

The Orient Express La Dolce Vita offers a new way of experiencing the country: an environmentally-friendly adventure where forgotten roads are explored, hidden treasures discovered and where architectural triumphs take centre stage.

Orient Express La Dolce Vita Contemporary Design

Designed by Dimorestudio, the global architectural and design studio founded by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran in 2003, the Orient Express La Dolce Vita train embodies the Italian art of living and all its beautiful traditions with a more contemporary spirit of travel.

Orient Express La Dolce Vita Luxury Train Club

The train’s sumptuous décor will adorn 12 Deluxe cabins, 18 Suites, and one Honour Suite and restaurant, all boldly celebrating the craftsmanship, design and creativity of the 1960s and 1970s.

Orient Express La Dolce Vita Dining & Hospitality

In collaboration with renowned local and international chefs and sommeliers, travellers will experience 5-star service on board, savouring the beauty and excellence of “Made in Italy” through award-winning Italian wines and exclusive haute cuisine.

Before departure at the Roma Termini station, the Orient Express executive lounge will welcome passengers offering them a selection of refreshments in a convivial and elegant space, complete with dedicated services and staff to assist them.

Orient Express La Dolce Vita Itineraries

The itineraries have been chosen to create unique travel experiences, all capable of awakening our five senses. Most will start in Italy, revealing the wonders of the Alps, the bucolic countryside, or the paradisiacal beaches of southern Italy.

In addition, three dedicated itineraries will take you through eight countries, linking Rome to Paris, Istanbul, and Split.

The Cinema House opened on 19th September 1913. This cinema was a unique reverse cinema with the audience entering the auditorium from the side of the screen. The balcony was entered via a broad catwalk to the right hand side of the auditorium. The street behind was at least one story higher than Viewfield Place, which meant that the rear of the stalls was underground. In the 1920’s a cafe was added to the facilities.

Originally part of the Caledonian Associated Cinemas Group, the cinema became an independent in 1982 and was renamed the Orient Express, being converted into a twin cinema, with the two screens being named Pullman 1 & 2. Later a third 100 seat screen was added (in the former cafe area?) but this was a video operation and was not successful, closing in the late 1980’s. The Orient Express Cinema closed on 14th May 1992 with “Hook” and “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe”.

It was then acquired by Robin’s Cinemas Ltd. and re-opened on 9th October 1992 with Walt Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”. The third screen was re-opened again, this time with 35mm projection and 74 seats.

The death knell was sounded with the opening of a new out of town Odeon multiplex at Halbeath in July 2000, which finished off the last of Dunfermline’s traditional cinemas. It was converted into a short lived nightclub.

From 13th June 1992, Historic Scotland designated the former Cinema House a Grade B Listed building. It is listed on the Buildings At Risk Register. [Cinema Treasures Website]

„Die fantastische Reise mit dem Orientexpress“

In respect of 'Boat Trains" It doesn't come any more up market than the Venice Simplon Orient Express. This luxury train operated by P&O Sea Containers at the time was part of a luxury travel experience offered as a through package from London to Venice by train one way and fly back or vice versa.

From an enthusiast point of view the train was booked for some rare haulage in the shape of one of the Dover Train Ferry heavy shunters namely a class 33/2. The engine used to run light from Dover Town Yard to Folkestone East Junction to await the arrival of 1Y46 11.15 London Victoria to Folkestone Harbour VSOE service. The train would arrive from London behind a class 73 and on entering the Folkestone East Train Roads would stop for the class 33/2 to be attached to the rear for the reversal and descent of the 1/37 Folkestone Harbour branch. With the closure of the branch and cessation of ferry services from Folkestone VSOE passengers are now de-trained at Folkestone West and a luxury coach conveys them to Calais in France via the Eurotunnel vehicle shuttle.

33 203 is seen descending the incline with 1Y46 approaching the footbridge at Folly Road Level Crossing. 73 211 can just be seen attached to the rear for the return working. Passengers disembarking from the VSOE would catch the 14.30 ferry to Boulogne where their journey would continue on the 15 coach Wagon-Lits Pullman cars across Europe.
