"Alt trifft Neu"

De Orient express in doortocht in Yvoir, laatste wagon is car N°3309

The art nouveau building was very modern when it was first built, having gas lighting and heating provided by large tile stoves made in Austria in winter.

The sovereign par excellence of trains, on a warm afternoon in early May, in the Emilian countryside.

Famous novel “Murder on the Orient Express” makes Sirkeci Train Station a place with romantic history. The Orient Express started service in 1883 and first arrived in Istanbul in 1895. It took more than three days (80 hours) to run from Paris to Istanbul. The terminal restaurant became a meeting place for journalists, writers in the 1950s and 1960s

This my 'photo of the week' because it was my only photo of the week!

Every two years the English rugby team travel to play their Welsh counterparts in the Cardiff cauldron that is known as the Principality Stadium (formerly the Millennium Stadium) and fans from across both nations gather to watch, sing and shout their team to victory. Some English fans travel in style enjoying the sumptuous luxury that is the Belmond Pullman rake of coaches, enjoying a 'bucks fizz' (no, not the Eurovision winning pop group) and a hearty breakfast between London Victoria and Cardiff Central. On reaching the Welsh capital they detrain, possibly then heading for a Brains pub for a glass or two of SA (known locally as Skull Attack) before entering the cauldron, where the atmosphere will be electric (unlike possibly the South Wales Main-Line west of Cardiff, ever). After the match, time for a couple more beers and then back to London eating a silver-service four-course meal washed down with a glass or two of Merlot. Oh, how the other half live!

So what happens to the train whilst the rugby is played? Today, the 11 February 2017, the whole train went west (I know, many things have gone west since Privatisation) to Margam Knuckle Yard to be serviced, cleaned and watered. On virtually every other day Margam yard contains just coal wagons, steel wagons and oil tankers with a few Class 66s and the occasional Class 60 stabled, so the Orient Express and a Royal-liveried Class 67 are a cut above the rest.

The view shows the summit at Stormy (a few miles west of Bridgend) with 67005 named 'Queen's Messenger' leading the posh-nosh coaches to Margam.
