I'm sorry for so many of these, but I'm in love with them! And with the 24 hour Picnik Premium thing that went on, I HAD to take portraits in order to change the eye colours and face stuff. But I want Picnik Premium now. Anyone want to buy me it ? :DDD

So about the speech thing...

Gulls adhering to forced orders

Discover history’s darkest secret in The Order: 1886, the game that re-writes history by introducing a unique vision of Victorian-Era London, where Man uses advanced technology to battle a powerful and ancient foe. In an alternate history where myths and technology co-exist, players take on the role of Sir Galahad, a hardened member of an elite order of Knights engaging in a centuries-old war that will determine the course of history forever.

Hundreds of years before the game’s version of 1886, humanity de-evolves and a subset of humans becomes the genetically different “Half-breeds.” War eventually breaks out between humans and Half-breeds for power and survival, and in order to combat these fierce enemies, a brotherhood was formed through the Knights of the Round Table – an alliance called The Order. The Knights of The Order have waged wars across centuries and sworn to defend humanity while protecting the secrets of this dark history. Strengthened by a mysterious liquid called Blackwater, the Knights of The Order are able to heal their wounds and extend their lifespans in order to engage this supernatural foe.

Through the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, The Order is now equipped with powerful weapons to turn the tide against the Half-breeds, but must also face a new threat. A rebellion emerges and the Rebels’ ranks are growing, as is their boldness, as they declare an all-out war against The Order and the government oppression it represents. Now, the Knights of The Order must face threats on all sides as they struggle to maintain peace and order.

Order and Chance - The Unmaking of Time

Led by artist Sarah Sparkes

Monday 5 March – Saturday 31 March 2012,

This five-session course invites you to celebrate and engage with the diverse body of works and processes developed by the Italian artist Alighiero e Boetti. His extensive artistic practice is unique in the choice of materials, techniques and artistic strategies that he developed over the three decades of his professional life.

Time – its construction and de-construction – appeared as a recurring theme for Boetti. He was interested in the relationship between the conception of an idea and its execution, often directing others to make his artworks. Boetti considered everything in the world of potential use to the artist. The ephemera of the everyday were media through which he could explore his interest in the opposing relationship between order and chance, the individual and society, error and perfection.

Inspired by Boetti’s practice, this course is an opportunity to investigate and practically engage with the methods of working collaboratively and individually to create both intimate and large-scale works. Using everyday, easily accessible ephemera such as postcards, calendars, magazines, diaries, graph paper, maps and charts, we explore the representation of time and other systems of order and how to visually ‘unmake’ them.

This five-session course will conclude with a small exhibition of work on Saturday 31 March 2012, 16.00–17.00 in the Level 7 East Room at Tate Modern, open to friends and family.

Flying Boat Slipway

In 1940, the Government decided to order Consolidated Catalina aircraft from the USA to replace the Saunders-Roe (Saro) Lerwick flying boat, which was proving to be not fit for task, due to handling issues. Delivery of the Catalinas commenced in early 1941, and conversion work was required to meet Air Ministry specifications. The flying boat manufacturer Saunders-Roe were contracted to undertake this work. Saunders-Roe produced flying boats (the Supermarine Walrus and its successor, the Sea Otter) on the Isle of Wight. This location left Saunders-Roe extremely vulnerable to enemy attack and a safer location was sought for the Catalina conversion work.

The Menai Straits were found to be an excellent location for flying boat operations, and the company purchased the Burton’s Fryars estate near Beaumaris in 1940. The Saro Shrimp was one of the aircraft that first appeared here in the summer of 1940. Saunders Roe dismantled one of their spare hangars at Cowes and re-erected it on site in August 1941. The Ministry of Aircraft Production then built a further hangar and workshops on the site in December 1941, linked to the foreshore by a concrete slipway.

For four years there were flying boats stretching from the Gazelle Hotel down to Fryars Bay. In all, 399 Catalinas came through the site. Substantial work was carried out to prepare them for various roles with both the RAF and the Royal Navy.

After the war Saunders-Roe transferred their shipbuilding operations to the site. An experimental Auster floatplane was tested at Beaumaris in 1944, 1949 and again in 1955. However, it was found to be severely lacking in power and the design was never carried forward. The firm also manufactured bus bodies for both London and Cuba. Other vehicle manufacturers went on to take over the site, which closed completely in 1997.

The flying boat slipway remains, as do all of the wartime hangars, although they have been significantly modernised.

A view of the monumental Council Chamber of the City of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. Lots of chaos just outside this famous arena of public debate yesterday, when a re-counting of the elections on March 3th proved to be much to do about nothing at all. The Socialist Party (PvdA) still remains largest by a tight margin. Ah well, this chamber resonates of its share of petty fights over the decennia.

Gellért-hegyi Sziklatemplom (Gellért Hill Rock Church) was originally constructed in in Gellért-hegyi barlang (Gellért Hill Cave) in the 1920s by a group of Pauline monks under the direction of architect Kálmán Lux. Consecrated in 1926, It served as a chapel and monastery until 1951 when it was sealed by the State Protection Authority. After the iron curtain fell, it reopened in 1989 and the chapel by 1992 the chapel had been restored and the Pauline Order returned. Today the cave, which s also referred to as Saint Ivan's Cave (Szent Iván-barlang) after a hermit who lived there and is believed to have used the natural thermal water of a muddy lake next to the cave to heal the sick, is a popular tourist attraction.

For years I have been collecting misspelt phoenixes - shops, businesses, several pubs, a garage, a carwash, even - sadly - a tattoo. Tonight, my old employer, ITV, managed to top and tail every break in the Harry Potter movie with an incorrect caption. This has to be the most public "Pheonix" ever. Made my day.
