Mattis tempers optimistic outlook on Afghanistan after twin bombings
Defense Secretary James Mattis on Tuesday sought to temper media reports that the Pentagon has taken a more optimistic outlook on Afghanistan, a day after a pair of suicide bombings in Kabul killed at least 35 people, including...
A foolishly optimistic attempt on my part to get the child to put her tools back. We'll see how this works this year and if little pink hand tools will scatter the lawn or not. Sadly, there's more of their ilk buried in places... does she think planting the shovels will make more little pink shovels grow?

Dull and sour; a metaphor for unwanted company. But the little copper-foiled prickle tips give away the boundless enthusiasm within!

The mitt belongs to the young Cardinals fan. A batter would really have to kill a foul for the ball to come up this high.
He only looks lil because he's on the ground and I'm on the porch. No one can deny that pretty face though.
I saw this while riding my bike. It really was pointing up towards the sun, so I had to take a picture.

: marked by the view that all is for the best in this best of possible worlds : excessively optimistic
I realize that my views are quite panglossian, but I think that parent-teacher conference days are the most productive days of the school year. I learn so much about my students.
When President Trump “pardons” a pair of Thanksgiving turkeys on Tuesday, prisoners will be watching and hoping that Trump breaks with tradition and frees human beings alongside lucky birds.
This year, optimism is fueled by signs that the White House and Justice Department are processing cle...

It has obviously been a very good week of fishing as the bokkoms are hanging out to dry all over Bokkomlaan, which of course means the birds are hanging around too, ever optimistic ;-)
Yesterday, I was not too optimistic about producing a quality shot when I left my apartment. The sky was looking dark, and I could see rain in the distance. I have been to this swamp several times before, and I have never been able to find a great composition. It is simply such a chaotic mess of vegetation that finding a clean composition is very difficult. When I noticed that the sun was emitting crepuscular rays, I knew that I needed to have my camera pointed in that direction. Crepuscular rays are one of my favorite types of light phenomena. Having very little foreground to work with, I used the boardwalk as a leading line.
As far as processing is concerned, this image is a hand-blended composite of two exposures. This type of blend is always difficult with the trees in the distance.
As a closing note, always remember that you can't get lucky if you don't try.
