final selection from the Circus of Horrors

York's third annual Fairtrade Wine Tasting event, part of the Festival of Food and Drink, was held in the grand surroundings of the Minster's Chapter House on Tuesday 23rd September.

Whilst the guests' taste buds were occupied with the flavours of the seven selected Fairtrade wines, their ears were entertained by a performance from members of the Micklegate Singers, York's first Fairtrade choir. There was a talk about how Fairtrade is helping winegrowers in South Africa, and Kate Lock, author of "Confessions of an Eco-Shopper" gave a talk about her experiences and experiments with organic wines.

The event was sponsored by The Co-Operative, who supplied all wines used for the event. It was organised by the Fair Trade Forum - the group of volunteers behind York's successful push toward Fairtrade City status.

I stumbled across this building in Pentyrch Street in Cathays, Cardiff whilst walking home from work. I was wondering what sort of factory it was when I noticed the huge sign at the opposite end of the building. No longer a bakery but the building is still in use for something.

Until recently, I'd never noticed the retro signage on the former Mark One building in Swan Square, Burslem.

Co-operative Society Memorial, Fylde Memorial Arboretum, Carleton, Blackpool N.S. Friday 14 August 2020

Until a few years ago this memorial was in an unloved condition within the grounds of the former Co-operative Society Club on Preston New Road, Little Marton, Blackpool. The club has now been demolished and replaced with new houses.
