A massive operation across Rochdale this morning saw 18 organised crime suspects swept to custody as part of an ongoing investigation into a number of violent incidents in the town recently.
Around 100 officers from across the Force targeted 15 addresses in the Rochdale and Heywood areas, where 15 men and two women were detained - the 18th suspect was arrested at Forest Bank prison.
The dozen-plus doors were targeted as part of Operation Chicago - a wide-ranging investigation spearheaded by detectives from the town's Challenger team tackling serious and organised crime.
Investigators have been probing various violent incidents between two feuding groups - including conspiracy to murder, violent disorder, the possession of weapons, and the supply of class A and B drugs.
This includes a machete attack on Bentley Street in October that left a man in his 20s with life-changing injuries.

Police from Tameside investigating modern slavery and drugs trafficking between Tameside and #Humberside have made arrests this morning.
Warrants were executed at addresses in #NewtonHeath, #Failsworth, and the #NorthernQuarter area as part of an operation dedicated to disrupting a drugs line between Tameside and #Hull that involves the criminal exploitation of vulnerable children.
The action is part of #OperationMarconi which was formed in June 2020 and concerns the exploitation of children from Tameside aged between 16 and 17.
It is one of over 20 investigations being led by GMP Tameside's Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) team dedicated to modern slavery and the exploitation of vulnerable people who have been coerced into criminal activity in the district.
The CCE team have already made an additional eight arrests as part of those investigations and four people have been charged with modern slavery and drug offences.
A number of vulnerable individuals coerced into 'county lines' and identified as high-risk have been safeguarded and re-housed with support from local partner agencies.
County lines describes organised criminal networks involved in exporting illegal drugs into one or more importing areas within the UK, using dedicated mobile phone lines.
Children and vulnerable adults are often exploited to move and store the drugs and money often through coercion, intimidation, violence and weapons.
Police continue to collaborate with social services and schools, in particular, to help spot the signs of any children that may have been identified to be at risk of such exploitation.
Detective Constable Laura Hughes, of GMP Tameside's Child Criminal Exploitation team, said: "Today's action is a significant statement as we continue to tackle the pernicious exploitation of vulnerable young people for illicit gains.
"We have been working tirelessly in the CCE team in Tameside to work with local agencies in identifying and safeguarding potential victims of this criminality, while pursuing those that we believe are responsible for such exploitation.
"Tackling 'county lines' by its nature requires closely co-ordinated work, not just with local partners, but also policing partners from across the country and I would like to thank Humberside Police for their support during this operation so far.
"A lot of our work is based on intelligence and we are forever gaining a clearer picture as to how these criminal enterprises operate and are developing a real understanding of how these groups recruit and coerce vulnerable young people.
"It is important people know to spot the signs of when someone may be being exploited; whether it being withdrawn from family and friends and skipping school, to having more than one phone and going missing from home more regularly.
"Anyone with suspicions or concerns should contact police online via our website, call 101 and always dial 999 in an emergency. Details can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Dawn raids saw six people arrested by police as part of an investigation into gas explosion cash machine attacks.
A further person was arrested for unrelated drug offences.
This morning (Wednesday 26 June 2019) officers executed warrants at nine addresses as part of Operation Benson – launched in response to incidents involving the theft of money from ATMs.
Warrants were executed by GMP at Oldham Road, Uxbridge Street and Garden Walk in Ashton-under-Lyne, as well as on Robinson Street, Caroline Street and Handley Close in Stockport.
The action was supported by the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit – Disruption Team.
Further warrants were executed on Woodlands Close, Tintwistle and Lea Fold, Solihull by Derbyshire Police and West Midlands Police respectively on behalf of GMP.
Police arrested:-
A 30-year-old man for conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life and conspiracy to burgle.
A 34-year-old man for conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life and conspiracy to burgle.
A 30-year-old man for conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life and conspiracy to burgle.
A 28-year-old man for conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life and conspiracy to burgle.
A 30-year-old woman for conspiracy to burgle and money laundering.
A 33-year-old woman for conspiracy to burgle.
A 28-year-old man for possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply.
Detective Sergeant Phil Kennedy said: “Thanks to the excellent work of our officers; colleagues within other force areas and SaferCash partners, we have been able to bring six people into custody this morning.
“Additionally, we have a further person in custody for drugs offences.
“These raids came as the result of extensive intelligence gathering and show our determination in dismantling organised crime networks who commit these kinds of crimes.
“Today’s operation is a response to various types of ATM attacks– including those which use gas explosions to access monies, endangering the lives of anyone caught nearby.
“While the vast majority of people in Greater Manchester work hard for their rewards in life, a small minority think it acceptable to try and shortcut their way via acts of criminality.
“We will do everything in our power to catch and prosecute organised criminals whose offending blights our communities.
“If you believe someone to be involved in criminality, contact police immediately. Your actions will help prevent innocent people becoming the victims of crime.”

Police in Bolton have today arrested 15 people in connection with drug dealing in the borough.
This morning’s warrants, which targeted those suspected of selling Class A drugs in the town centre at night time, follow months of intelligence gathering and planning by police in Bolton.
More than 20 raids were carried out in the early hours of Thursday 10 September 2015, in areas across Bolton including Halliwell, Breightmet and Stoneclough, organised by officers from Bolton’s Operation Challenger team, which is a specialist team targeting those involved in organised criminal activity.
More than 200 officers from various units across GMP were involved in the raids, in which 13 men have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs. A man and a woman were also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis. Another man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer.
They have been taken into police custody and will be questioned by detectives later today.
Quantities of cannabis and cocaine were recovered from several addresses and a firearm was seized from a property in Halliwell.
Superintendent Andrea Jones from GMP’s Bolton division said: “This morning’s arrests are the result of the community standing shoulder to shoulder with the police to take a strong stance against those involved in drug related activity in Bolton.
“The warrants carried out today are just the first phase of this operation, which will now see us working with local partner agencies including housing, licensing, revenue and customs and other departments to see if people are in breach of local authority housing agreements, benefit fraud, business licenses etc.
“The work of organised crime groups is constantly changing in their attempt to stay ahead of the police, and Operation Challenger sees GMP working together with other agencies to tackle serious and organised crime, so that all aspect of criminals’ lives are targeted, making it much harder for organised crime groups to operate.
“We cannot do this alone though and we need the public’s support to continue to provide us with information about illegal activity in their neighbourhood. I would like to thank our communities across Bolton for their support so far and assure people that this is not just a one off in tackling those blighting our night time economy in the town centre and surrounding areas.”
Programme Challenger was launched in Greater Manchester in 2012 and has become internationally recognised as a good model of effective organised crime policing. The operation has now been launched in Bolton and through collaboration with partner agencies and the general public, Challenger uses various intelligence-led methods to disrupt and dismantle organised crime groups across Bolton and Greater Manchester.
Anyone with information that they wish to pass to the Operation Challenger team in Bolton is asked to contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously with information on 0800 555 111.
