When a few flowers died in each of two bunches of flowers I was given, I merged them together and think the colours go well.
Day 17 post-op yesterday and I took a walk down the road, with Ray and 2 crutches for company (although I can now manage fine with 1 indoors) my target being to the local church and back. It was slow, the traffic a bit noisy to somebody unaccustomed to walking out but there is a handy seat near the church.
Once home, Ray checked the distance and found I had walked just over half a mile - well pleased!

This old mine engine house is one of several on the Cornish cliff-tops near Rinsey, which is a short distance from Porthleven and Helston. The date stone on the building reads 1860, and apparently the mine was only in operation for less than ten years.

My partner's dogs Oski and Lucy associate me with walks, so that every time I visit, they get very excited.
So we don't use the word 'walk' or 'the W word' but instead refer to taking them for a Weetabix, though there are signs already that they've made the connection, leaving us no choice but to change it again.
Maybe I'll be taking them for a honey nut cluster at the weekend if the weather will allow it.

Union Pacific SD40-2 No. 3626 idles in Salt Lake City on Aug. 23, 1992. It is one of three UP SD40-2s to wear the "Operation Redblock" scheme.
From UP.com: "Operation RedBlock began as a joint labor-management effort in the late 1970s in response to increased substance use among railroad employees. A local UP labor representative suggested that these employees should have the opportunity for rehabilitation rather than dismissal."
Traffic rolls on as 93M and it's lone Operation Lifesaver GP38-2 glide over Herr Street in downtown Harrisburg as they return to Harrisburg Yard from the Steelton Industrial Track.

This is rich! Until a few years ago, Australian ice-cream manufacturer Peters operated their Peter's Arctic Delicacy factory slap bang in the middle of the inner Brisbane suburb of West End. Details can be found below and in the link. The ice cream was marketed as the health food of the nation until the 70's but thinking about that now, people who over indulged and have since had heart coronary by-pass surgery may well be re-evaluating the part ice creams played in their diet (and that does include me)!
Over the last couple of years, the factory and indeed precinct have gone through a massive rebuild (not always favoured by locals and others) but the core building now includes a Woolworths and many new stores and cafes and art spaces as well as a large new garden area. This particular door and wall hold the intricate plan for the manufacture of this Mickey Mouse ice-cream and advertising from the era.
I note with some sadness though that one of the signs beside the plan (or no doubt blueprint) indicates that for many years, Queensland school children received a free Peter's Ice Cream at Christmas. Oh yeah, well Peter's is still going strong so be warned, I am coming to redeem all seven years of my primary school's free ice creams! Soon! It's catch-up time.
"In December 1928 this reinforced concrete and brick ice cream factory was opened for operation. It cost £100,000 and provided work for hundreds of people. At the time of its opening the new factory was described as "…one of the most efficient ice cream factories in Australia." The company prided itself on the fact that from the time the milk and cream were received into the factory until they reached the consumer, they were not touched by human hands, the whole of the various processes being by means of modern machinery. To cope with the manufacturing of sufficient ice, huge ice tanks were built on the roof.
When the factory was completed, it was fronted by a forecourt reserve and driveway which was later laid out in a formal, award-winning garden. This garden earned Peters the nickname the "garden factory".
Sometime during the 1930s a second factory building was constructed facing Wilson Street. This is an indication of Peters’ growth in the middle decades of the 1900s century. The Peters business continued to expand, offering new services to localities throughout Queensland until, in 1960, it and Pauls Ice Cream and Milk Ltd were merged into Queensland United Foods Industries Ltd."
Abandoned sometime ago, was used by an artist for a "1,000 shadows" project - seems to have gone downhill since then.

Operation Barbarossa started on June 22nd, 1941, with the Germans rapidly invading the Soviet Union and decimating Soviet forces in virtually every battle. Hitler's plan was to conquer Eastern Europe for future German colonization called "Lebensraum". Ukraine was especially desired since at the time it was the breadbasket of Europe. When the Germans were conquering the Soviet Union, the Ukrainians and other peoples welcomed them as heroes because of the fact they "freed" them from communist oppression. The Holodomor was fresh in the average Ukrainians memory which was an artificial famine that killed millions and they were still resentful towards Stalin.
Two groups that wanted to take advantage of this moment was the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) which was into Italian fascism, was led by Andriy Melnik and the younger more violent OUN-B, was National Socialist which was led by Stepan Bandera. They originally existed because they were angry that Poland was "occupying" the province of Galicia which is claimed by both Poles and Ukrainians (even to this day).
However, the Ukrainians would learn that the Nazis were replacing one form of oppression with another. Hitler hated Slavic peoples and wanted them enslaved, "transferred" (possibly to Siberia) or at worst exterminated. When the OUN declared an independent Ukrainian state, that was shut down as quickly as possible. The Nazis committed atrocities against the Ukrainians which soon led to the growth of more partisan groups and led to some joining the Soviet army by the time they started "liberating" it from the Nazis.
In a last ditch effort, the Nazis freed imprisoned Ukrainian nationalist leader, Stepan Bandera to inspire the Ukrainians but that ultimately failed. Even during his imprisonment all the OUN-B did was mass murder Poles in the provinces of Galicia and Volhynia. Today he's seen as a controversial figure as he is popular in Western Ukraine which is full of Catholic Ukrainians and hated in Eastern Ukraine which is full of Orthodox Russians.
CSXT West Springfield to Selkirk train M425 rounds the bend on Main 1 as they come out from beneath the East Street / Route 9 overpass right at MP 147 (note the milepost partially obscured at right) on modern day CSXT's Berkshire Subdivision, the one time Boston and Albany Railroad mainline. Looming beyond is the the last remaining building from the once massive former GE plastics plant. General Electric was once the dominant industry in town dating all the way back to 1903 when when it purchased the Stanley Electric Manufacturing Co., which had been established in Pittsfield in 1890. In addition to its plastics division, GE manufactured transformers in town and operated an aerospace division. At its peak during the 1940s, the GE plant employed 13,000 people - in a city of just about 50,000!
The transformer division shut down by 1987 and took 2000 jobs with it, followed by the sale of aerospace to Lockheed Martin leaving only about 500 employees working for the plastics division. That last operation was closed and the remains sold off in 2005 and since that time many of the buildings on the 324 acre site have been removed, and for the past two decades GE has been working to clean and remediate the area from decades of PCB contamination. In fact I thought this scene looked different from the last time I photographed off this bridge and turns out I was right: flic.kr/p/2nqsYeE
In addition to being a major employer it was once a huge rail customer though today what little trackage remains on the property is rusty and unused and there is so little rail served industry left that CSXT has long since abolished their last local freight crew in town.

April 2030, after information that has been intercepted by the crushed Warsaw Pact about the weak points of DARKWATER's defense around New York City and the massive planning that followed, the attack may commence. Platoons of EU soldiers infiltrate and squeeze through the cracks in the defense system. The most efficient way to infiltrate was to move through towering crates and harbor ships to attack the grand city.

Transport for Cornwall (Go Cornwall Bus / Plymouth Citybus)
Alexander Dennis Enviro200 MMC
2213 WA20DVR is seen leading on service 71 to Derriford, 2426 WA20DXE behind on service 11 to Plymouth and 2421 WA20DWY at the back awaiting to commence a service 74 to Callington.
These examples delivered with great pace to the new Go-Ahead operation in Cornwall are very nice to travel on, if perhaps lacking in amenities like next-stop information and USB charging points.
The routes these buses serve around Liskeard, Callington and Looe are fantastic too, with most spending much of their journey on single-track roads. It's very exciting and I highly recommend.

Almost done for the season! All the volunteers and most of the staff are finished for this year. Just the shippers remain, but have a break right now until January 7th. The remainder of all the shoebox gifts are destined for West Africa. We will start to ship on January 9th. I will be part of this, along with my son.
Happy New Year, my Flickr friends! I will be out of the country on a road trip until January 6th.
In organising this stealth operation times were agreed, watches synchronised and 4 troops would meet at the given time.
Officer Dixon and Fly by the seat of his pants Pedlar had assembled at the RV point, yet no signs of the other 2 soldiers.
Polite whistling was exchanged between OD & FP to while away a bit of time, but still no show.
So the two dedicated soldiers decided to put on their combat equipment, namely wellies and set off alone on this mission.
As the two soldiers were almost approaching the venue to be photographed, their attention was drawn to a lady several metres up the cliff face sitting at a table of the Port William pub, waving her arms in an uncoordinated manner, shouting “get up here, my glass is empty again, your round”.
So the two soldiers duly obliged where they joined Christine and Dave.
With glasses charged a thoroughly enjoyable 4 way conversation ensued in one of the most idyllic drinking locations on the north coast of Cornwall.
Following a whole load of banter it was felt while we were still able to walk we had better head down and see what we could load onto our memory cards at Trebarwith Strand.
So good to meet up again Christine, Dave and Mark.
Hope you all have a great weekend out there in Flickerland.
I so appreciate you viewing my photos and leaving the comments and banter

Two former Erie Lackawanna SD45-2s shove a cut of cars into one of the 30 tracks that make up the Oak Island Hump on a cloudy June afternoon in 2018. Oak Island Hump was created back in the days of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and is still a vital part of Conrail Shared Assets operations in New Jersey to this day. A few years ago the hump was closed in favor of flat switching, but it was found to be inefficient and was reopened weeks later.
