Built at the end of the 1870s, this Neo-Renaissance building decorated with Baroque motifs that is the Opera House boasted the most modern theatre technology of its time.
Chris Mirto, assistant professor of opera theater, and guest artists work with conservatory students on a newly commissioned opera, as it is being written. The performance will be staged during Winter Term 2023, followed by an off-campus presentation.

The opera house, no opera's were going on the week we were there. But we did take a tour. It was amazing inside.
Oslo Opera House is undoubtedly one of the most striking examples of modern architecture that I have seen. It looks almost like a spaceship from Starwars!

The Opéra Garnier is one of the Paris National Opera's two home venues in the city. It was built from 1861 to 1875 on a commission of Napoleon III, along with the Place de l'Opéra on which the building stands, at the intersection of Boulevard des Capucines and Avenue de l'Opéra. Inaugurated as "le Nouvel opéra de Paris" (the New Paris Opera), the venue became known as the "Palais Garnier" within the first decades of its existence, acknowleding the plans and designs of its architect Charles Garnier. The Paris National Opera now uses the Palais Garnier mainly for ballet. The Palais Garnier also houses the Bibliothèque-Musée de l'Opéra de Paris (Paris Opera Library-Museum), although the Library-Museum is no longer managed by the Opera and is part of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
Saigon Opera House (Ho Chi Minh Municipal Theater) was built at the turn of the 20th century as a classical opera house to entertain French colonists.

Il Teatro dell'opera di Sydney è stato progettato dall'architetto danese Jørn Utzon, affiancato per i calcoli strutturali dalla società di ingegneria londinese Arup.
Situato nella baia di Sydney, dotato di un parco di divertimenti a sud e di un grande parcheggio per le autovetture accessibile da Macquarie Street, ben collegato e vicino all'enorme Sydney Harbour Bridge, l'edificio e i suoi dintorni rappresentano spesso una meta per i turisti che - per la maggior parte senza interesse alcuno per l'opera - affollano l'edificio semplicemente per visitarne la struttura.
Secondo alcuni critici, i gusci a sezione sferica possono ricordare la flottiglia di barche a vela che si reca in crociera nei mari australiani.
L'acustica dell'intera struttura, particolarmente quella del teatro dell'opera, non sempre ha avuto apprezzamento e anzi ha ricevuto critiche fino a essere giudicata insoddisfacente rispetto alla funzione per cui è stata creata.
Vi sono state continue richieste per una ristrutturazione degli spazi, un restyling che preveda lo spostamento del teatro dell'opera alla sala concerto, più grande e più adatta acusticamente, con conseguente spostamento dell'orchestra in una nuova sede.
Il teatro dell'opera venne inaugurato dalla regina Elisabetta II del Regno Unito il 20 ottobre 1973. L'apertura fu trasmessa in televisione, con fuochi d'artificio e l'esecuzione della Nona sinfonia di Beethoven.
Nella sala dei concerti si trova il Grande Organo a Canne, un organo dotato di 10.500 canne, installato nel 1979.
Nel 2007 è entrato a far parte dei Patrimoni dell'Umanità sotto l'egida dell'UNESCO.
