The opening weekend of the 2017 Blackstone Valley Polar Express saw P&W 4006 leading the Saturday morning train north out of Woonsocket. One of the orange things was on the other end.
The overpass above the train is the out-of-service Slatersville Running Track.

To avoid spoilers, I won't say what door :-)
I now have a red LED light so I was able to use it for this shot instead of adding red in Photoshop Elements later :-)
Dark Red Peony buds about to open. There were lots of these in a flower garden in a park along the river in Red Wing, MN. Only a few had opened,

Howl... grafitti Style.
Poem written by Allen Ginsberg in 1955, published as part of his 1956 collection of poetry titled "Howl and Other Poems".
From yesterday's road trip. I'm finding it increasingly more difficult to stay at home... as much as I'm enjoying winter, I'm starting to look forward to more frequent and longer road trips... Threatening on a daily basis to get in my car, drive away and just. keep. going..........
Thelma? OR is it Louise....?
Keep a bag packed. I want company!!

Grazie."
Re-opening the archives will be my story for the next weeks, starting ten years ago.
I remember this lovely midi dress with buttons all up the front. Buttoned up, it was very demure and quite warm in winter. Undo a few, or many, buttons and it still looked demure when standing and the full skirts draped around me, however when I sat down ...!
I also remember my old camera, which was actually pretty good, but could not focus on a subject that wasn't there. That was a major problem for self-timer shots like this one.
Class 47 loco no. 47712 leads 1Z65, the Penzance to Wolverhampton 'Statesman' railtour on the evening of Saturday 29 June 2024. It is seen here pulling away from a signal check on the approach to Yatton station in North Somerset. There was considerable congestion on the lines here on this evening, due to what I believe was a faulty GWR set at Weston-super-Mare. Trains followed close behind each other, hence the oncoming lights , and passing rear lights, seen through the exhaust haze of the 47.
(This image is a substantial crop from a shot taken at 760mm. It has some technical issues resulting from low light levels and the focal length used. However I feel the atmosphere of the scene more than compensates for these issues).
For an alternative angle on railway photography, why not take a look at the Phoenix website:

I went to The Fenway Victory Gardens yesterday, and decided to take a quick walk over to Fenway Park after hearing the roaring crowd. I just stayed for a minute to take a couple of photos. Go Red Sox! ⚾️
“Maybe stalking the woods is as vital to the human condition as playing music or putting words to paper. Maybe hunting has as much of a claim on our civilized selves as anything else. After all, the earliest forms of representational art reflect hunters and prey. While the arts were making us spiritually viable, hunting did the heavy lifting of not only keeping us alive, but inspiring us. To abhor hunting is to hate the place from which you came, which is akin to hating yourself in some distant, abstract way.”
― Steven Rinella
Every two weeks, my brother is notified that water from the Rio Grande will be pushed to the irrigation canal behind his house. He opens the gates and water reaches his property via a culvert under the access road. It takes several hours and has to be watched closely to avoid flooding. He can adjust the flow by opening and closing the gate. He has created berms to help direct the water where it's needed and to avoid flooding. Kinda an interesting way of life in such a dry climate, but he has a lovely green lawn and horse pasture.
