Catkins just starting to open.
On an late evening walk when I thought it might be fun to bring the old NEX out of retirement and see how the Canon rangefinder 35mm performed on a crop sensor.
"Sunflower Opening III - Horizontal" by Patti Deters. This is a cheerful photograph of a bright yellow sunflower placed onto a weave texture background with a bit of yellow tone added. A few of the petals have just started opening and most still cover the seed head. Sunflowers bloom in the summer in Minnesota and there's nothing better than finding a field of these beautiful tall plants in bloom. Almost a full month later than last year, but we're finally beginning to see signs of Spring. It has been a very, very, very long and snowy Winter. But at least lack of water won't be an issue for the Spring gardens. :)
It is always nice to see some prints on real fine paper.

Normally, I'd be spending a weekend day in early spring at an AAU baseball doubleheader (U12 this year) somewhere in southern New England. Mother Nature had other ideas on the first Sunday in April, as unseasonable snow and cold caused a postponement of our opening 12 inning twofer in Eastern MA. Instead, I went for a drive with a scanner and a camera. Here we have a trace of snow, some filtered afternoon sun and P&W train GRWO south at the Pleasant St./Sunnyside Ave. double crossing in Holden MA with B40 widecab 4006 leading. Not bad alternate plans

The opening weekend of the 2017 Blackstone Valley Polar Express saw P&W 4006 leading the Saturday morning train north out of Woonsocket. One of the orange things was on the other end.
The overpass above the train is the out-of-service Slatersville Running Track.
