Finding open water will be a fun time as the season progresses. This river is an outflow from a reservoir. It will remain mostly free flowing. But with my 4 layers of clothing on to stay warm, it will be a while before I wade here. A fun day that started out in snow flurries and ended up with some brook trout.

These Celandines were open in the spring sunshine, on a damp, wet, or overcast day they remain closed. They also close at night. They do this to protect their pollen.

More playing on the beach this afternoon.

Open Mouth Owlet-Not sure what this owlet was trying to do, maybe expel an owl pellet but he sat on the edge of the nest and was opening and closing his mouth multiple times like this. (5 pics and video)

This is a small part of the Great Basin that is north of Death Valley with the Sierra Nevada in the far background and the Panamint Mountains at the far right. What is called "Basin and Range" or "Great Basin" in geographical terms refers to a vast portion of the American West between the Sierras and the Rockies and contains many smaller mountain ranges as well as large basins as you see pictured here. It is very dry country as the Sierras siphon off most of the moisture coming in from the Pacific Ocean.

After the vast Rocky Mountain system, the Sierra Nevada have more mountains over 14,000 feet than any other range in the Lower 48 with a total of 13.

As the title indicates, this is open, unfenced rangeland.

Not quite in the standard tradition, however....😘

The Lilac opened at last. Captured this image on May 9th,

With iPhone and Olloclip Macro Lens. Then edited it a few times in Snapseed as usual.

I was having a hard time deciding which I liked better the darker one which showed more details or the lighter softer one that concealed the details but was more ethereal.

I decided to blend them together with some blend modes.

Lighten seemed to give the best of both images.

But, then I had another problem, I liked them all. So, I put them all together in a triptych and decided to post that way rather than repost the others at a later date though out the year.

Thanks for looking!

From the website of the City of New York: "The Open Streets program closes streets to vehicle traffic to make it safer and easier for pedestrians and cyclists to stay active and enjoy activities in their community. 100 miles of car-free streets will eventually be opened." This photo was shot on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, on Columbus Avenue and 75th Street, facing south.
