Day 5, Image 2 for Polaroid Week. This new 600 film is SOOO contrasty, not friendly to California sunny conditions at all. I'm trying to make the most of it but struggling.

Here's a little break from epic Colorado landscapes for a Rt. 66 roadside attraction.
Went to OKC and back recently and took route 66 back from OKC to Tulsa. Stopped in Wellston, OK to see this new installation. The pin marks the midpoint of 66 in Oklahoma. (Not to be confused with the whole route midpoint in Adrian, TX)
This is a pretty cool landmark and it looks awesome on instant film. The parking lot was a little tiny, though. Filled completely right after I got my photos, haha.

'Roid Week Autumn 2021 day 5/2.
It's hard to beat an afternoon hike in the woods. Signs of Spring are everywhere, but the recent cold shock seems to have slowed things down for now. That's fine by me, though. Everything happens too fast as it is, lol.
On a gear note, it looks like this batch of black and white Polaroid film is excellent. Glad that's what I put on my Christmas list!

Moored on the Columbia River at Kelly Point. 30 November 2024. Ford vehicles were coming off, while Jeeps were being loaded. According to MarineTraffic.com the ship is now headed to Japan.

I can never resist a photo of a nice trail with a curve, lol. I hope I get to where I'm able to spend a lot more time hiking this year. Cameras and hiking are about the best hobby match there is, haha.
This was in Hobb's State Park, on the Sinking Stream trail. For some reason we never did much hiking there until last year. I think I must've just figured it wouldn't be as interesting for some reason. It's been fun to go there and experience some new trails. So far they've all been pretty mild, and some trails have more to look at than others.
In the areas around NW Arkansas, SW Missouri, and NE Oklahoma, do you have a favorite hiking trail? I think my favorite so far is the fire tower loop in Roaring River State Park, MO. It's a bit of a physical challenge to do the whole thing, in terms of elevation gains and distance. The views are excellent, at least in the cooler seasons (I need to see what it's like during summer and fall, still!). It's also not a terribly far drive from my part of Arkansas.

If you like the effect here, I have a tip. Immediately after film ejects, shield from light in back pocket of blue jeans. Then (don't wait too long) bend over to pick up dog poop. That's what worked for me.

Wading in the river with my favorite Polaroid camera was a little sketchy, but this photo of my uncle and a couple others turned out great!
The purpose of this trip to the river was to try a little fishing. We didn't expect or get too much. It's been so hot and the water is so low in Colorado. We even restricted our fishing to the coolest parts of the day to protect the fish due to how high the water temps got this year. It was both nice to be in the river enjoying nature, and a little sad to see how bad conditions were.

Most photogenic building in @eurekasprings? In a place with a ton of great architecture, that's a tough call. It's definitely one of the standout structures downtown.

FYI to see what I've been doing. picture 1: looking out on the vast expanse of weeds. with a few flowers scattered in.
picture 2: looking at what I've done. and it took me 4 or 5 days to do it. I will get the pots put back and the area tidied up.

Sunday while my grandson was weed whacking, his girlfriend natalie was helping me weed. she watered all my dahlia pots for me and then weeded in front of them. now I can see what's in each pot.
it's so nice to have helpers.

I don't watch news much, but I happened to wander into the living room when leon was watching tv and saw the very instant mr. floyd died.

Watching the storm approach Bentonville last Sunday was awesome. The clouds were an ominous omen to the downpour that arrived shortly after this photo was made. That weather provided some amazing light and contrast for photography up until the rain arrived.
On the gear side, I'm definitely going to have to try to convert my Pronto Sonar to use i-Type and 600 film. I brought it for color and my manual focus Pronto (that is already converted) for black and white. They both performed quite well, but the Sonar could use a mirror cleaning. I think once converted, it will be my favorite Polaroid box camera.
