The back of a Pee Wee's Playhouse "Fun Pak" card. This one in particular is a take on the Bazooka Joe comics that came with the penny gum, way back when.

I start laughing just thinking of this card. It's stuffed full of references that likely only adults will get but I also just love the mix of Pee Wee with Bazooka Joe and the graphic work of the offset printing that doesn't match and more including the surprised Pee Wee just is brilliant in my opinion.

The small print on the lower right says:

"#4747 FREE! Bazooka Joe Comic -- Classic American Folk Humor, beloved for over two (2) generations. Guaranteed to enhance your lifestyle. Printed on sturdy wax paper. Colorful. Handy. Artistic. Send 150 plastic binoculars or 250 plastic diamond rings to: Bazooka Joe's Retirement Fund, Box 42, Bazookaland, Fla."

More of these, including pics of the other contents in the previous photos in my stream.

More PEE WEE here :)

More Cards here.

~~

All these (and more) need new homes as I'm going to a different country for an extended stay soon so send me a Flickr Mail message (access through the arrow that appears near my profile photo when mousing over it) if interested.

Speziell konstruierte Wendestangen ermöglichen eine hohe Vielfalt an Produkten.

Specially constructed turner bar elements offer high product diversity.

Adhesives and tapes for bonding, reclosable fasteners: design and package a stronger, lighter, better looking, longer lasting, and less costly product. We deliver a complete line of tapes and specialty products to help you meet the needs of today's challenging industrial manufacturing marketplace. Our solutions include sealing and holding; packaging, bundling and reinforcing; identification; protection; masking, gasket and cushioning; and web processing3M was founded in 1902 at the Lake Superior town of Two Harbors, Minn. Five businessmen set out to mine a mineral deposit for grinding-wheel abrasives. But the deposits proved to be of little value, and the new Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co. quickly moved to nearby Duluth to focus on sandpaper products.

Years of struggle ensued until the company could master quality production and a supply chain. New investors were attracted to 3M, such as Lucius Ordway, who moved the company to St. Paul in 1910. Early technical and marketing innovations began to produce successes and, in 1916, the company paid its first dividend of 6 cents a share.

The world's first waterproof sandpaper, which reduced airborne dusts during automobile manufacturing, was developed in the early 1920s.

A second major milestone occurred in 1925 when Richard G. Drew, a young lab assistant, invented masking tape – an innovative step toward diversification and the first of many Scotch® Pressure-Sensitive Tapes.

In the following years, technical progress resulted in Scotch Cellophane Tape for box sealing and soon hundreds of practical uses were discovered.

In the early 1940s, 3M was diverted into defense materials for World War II, which was followed by new ventures, such as Scotchlite™ Reflective Sheeting for highway markings, magnetic sound recording tape, filament adhesive tape and the start of 3M's involvement in the graphic arts field with offset printing plates.

In the 1950s, 3M introduced the Thermo-Fax copying process, Scotchgard™ Fabric Protector, videotape, Scotch-Brite™ Cleaning Pads and several new electro-mechanical products.

Dry-silver microfilm was introduced in the 1960s, along with photographic products, carbonless papers, overhead projection systems, and a rapidly growing health care business of medical and dental products.

Markets further expanded in the 1970s and 1980s into pharmaceuticals, radiology and energy control.

TypeCooker «pro» recipe:

width: normal

weight: plain

construction: smallcaps figures

stroke endings: slab shaped serif

(ascender: shorter than normal)

(descender: shorter than normal)

contrast type: between expansion and transitional

contrast amount: inverted contrast

stems: straight

intended application: smooth offset printing

intended size: reading sizes

special: must contain at least 2 ligatures

“Reversed contrast numerals”, what a braintwist (to avoid the heavier word). I decided that I’d take it to mean heavy horizontals throughout, so the opposite of “rationalized” numerals that would have more vertical contrast.

The French post has a very good reputation for art issues since 60s. Personally I prefer French early issued art stamps. At that time the level of design and the printing technique are quite excellent. I should agree that with the growth of different entertainment ways, the philately has lost many clients. That means potentially the post has lost incomes from postage. One way is considered because of development of computer network like Internet and email applications. And the same time the grave print costs more expensive and more time while offset printing is cheaper and widely used in stamps production. And Photoshop is widely used in stamps design. Considering these reasons, I think the French art stamps keep less quality than Czech and Slovakia today. These two countries have still very high quality for their grave art stamps.

[Document Philatélique de La Poste]

Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905)

I finally had some business cards printed for myself. It was time. Moo cards are cool and all, but some recent clients have really been expecting real cards with my identity on them.

These are 4/4 on 14 pt. stock with a dull matte finish, printed by Digital Room, my favorite online printer — and they're based here in Los Angeles. Real people actually call you to tell you that your proofs are ready and that your orders have shipped. Yes, REAL PEOPLE! As in humans! Offset printing, too - none of this laser B.S. like some other online printers. And their registration is super tight, so it looks really clean. This is all geeky designer speak at this point, so if you don't understand, just roll your eyes and say "okay, Steve."

Printing services and high quality printing materials were one of the key factors when we designed and pre-press for our clients. We have been cooperating with Control P printing house for a great number of years and there is a good reason for that; they deliver one of the best printing qualities in this part of Balkans. Over the years they have proven to be one of the rare printing houses that can deliver even the most complex types of printing. We tend to be demanding and look for even the tiniest errors when we control the printing process and we can say with confidence that Control P has given us the best printing service than any other printing house we came in contact with.

We never had any problems with Control P during the printing services for our clients unlike other printing houses that unfortunately, have no professional attitude and perfect final product. We always consult and point our clients that use our graphic design services to Control P. One of the basic reasons is that consistent quality no matter what size of the job is. We tend to provide maximum service quality, as our professional attitude and business codex point out and when we direct our clients to Control P we are positive that the design that we have made will be printed just the way we wanted, perfectly.

We have used the services of Control P printing house for over 80% of our projects that demanded printed material. A couple of those clients are: United Nations, Ergomade, HPD, Fertico, Fitofert, Centar Cad, Green Line, G&T Fruits, Vulkan AD, Goldys, RED BULL, Maplin, Tami Trade...

Offset printing is a service that Control P delivers on a very high level. Offset is a printing procedure of multiplication where the pressure is applied on the printing machine to reflect the painted image from the original printing form to the surface by using rubber base. Offset print provides high quality reproduction of multicolor originals. It also allows the use of multicolor printing on a wide range of materials. Offset printing has a range of techniques when printing: even, high and deep indirect print. The technique of even offset printing is one of the most widespread techniques in the world; it covers almost 85% of printing services. By using this technique we can print even the most difficult graphical solutions on a material such as:

Flyers, brochures, posters, memos, books, notes, catalogs, tags, magazines, calendars, maps, folders, cards, invitations …

The advantages of offset printing regarding to other methods are:

- High quality of the image. Offset print gives sharp and clean images.

- Easy and fast production of the printing plates

- Longer life span of printing plates for Glossary Link printing because there is no direct contact between the plate and the printable surface. Adequately developed plates can last over one million printing presses if the optimized colors are applied.

- Offset printing is one of the cheapest way to produce a high quality print for commercial usage when doing a larger amount of printing material.

With blindruck printing we can achieve a 3d effect.

With punching we can achieve any shape that we want that cannot be cut by a knife. We use it when we design folders, labels, catalogs, packages, boxes or any other item that has random different shapes.

With plastification we apply a thin layer of PVC (glossy or matte) on a printing material. This is done so that it can provide protection and longer life span of the item and a certain visual effect is achieved.

UV lacquer or offset lacquer are one of those finishing touches that make a certain segment of the print stand out in an attractive way.

Control P printing house was founded in 2003 in Nis, Serbia

They started working with low quantity prints and pre-press. Now they are known as the pioneers of big format print in Nis.

- 2004 they bought the first 152cm width plotter, ENCAD NOVA JET 880

- 2007 the first cutter-plotter was purchased and that made it the only one in Nis

- 2008 they made a great leap forward in digital printing by buying first digital printer, OLYMPIA class.

- 2011 they bought another top class digital printer , Konica – Minolta Bizhub Pro. Since they were involved a lot in industry print for high formats they bought another printer StarJet 2502 with 250cm width.

In the meantime the company expands and has over 1000 companies on their client list and seven highly qualified employees.

Four works in the exhibition by artist Alessandro Balteo-Yazbeck and art historian Media Farzin are parts of two series dealing with the interpenetration of art history in the global politics of petroleum and conflict, and vice versa. Each incorporates its own wall label texts as an integral part of the work, juxtaposing factual evidence with quotations to suggest what are sometimes deliberately tenuous connections between the sculptures of Alexander Calder (1898–1976), Venezuelan and American oil interests, the Cold War, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and its trustee from 1932 to 1979, the businessman and politician Nelson Rockefeller (1908–1979).

Lithography is a printing technique discovered around 1796 by the Bavarian playwright Alois Senefelder (1771–1834) as an alternative to costly copperplate engraving. Its name derives from the Latin for stone, litho, and mark, graph. After drawing with greasy crayon on the surface of the local smooth limestone, Senefelder found that images could be repeatedly inked and printed on paper. Later refinements of the technique led to a broad range of possibilities for reproducing commercial and artistic images, and the development of offset printing. It is no coincidence that all known fossil specimens of the early bird Archaeopteryx lithographica have been found in Senefelder’s Bavaria—the exceptionally fine limestone mined for lithographic printing also preserved highly detailed imprints of Jurassic life.

Touchpad comprises a dozen stone slabs once used for lithography. As printing houses closed or upgraded their presses, many slabs were discarded and were often used as paving. Tracing this history of obsolescence from inky images to ghostly footprints, Martín Llavaneras is interested in these surfaces as lithic tactile interfaces.

Jeremy Dubow currently has a solo exhibit of his 11 x 14 oil on mylar paintings titled, Jeremy Dubow: Portraits at Hiromi Ogawa Architects Portland, OR location which will be open through July by appointment. The exhibit consists of 27 portraits each numbered according to the chronological order in which they were painted. Three of these paintings were selected and produced into Scout Books by Beadle Design. Kristin Beadle was so kind as to send us some great photos from the exhibit opening night reception and some great closeups of the Scout Books as well.

Jeremy Dubow is a former Californian, born in San Francisco with his formal education including studies at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence Italy. His love for classical art and contemporary realism are at the heart of his work and quite apparent in this current exhibit. This three-hour head study series is Dubow’s first as a meditation on the form and essence of the subject with an emphasis on decisive brush strokes.

Luke Ramsey is awesome. He creates beautiful, intricate pieces of artwork that include zines, murals, paintings and prints. He also runs Islands Fold, an independent publisher and artist residency in B.C., Canada.

We ran into Luke last summer at the Portland Zine Symposium, and saw him sketching in a Scout Book! Quickly gave him another, and within weeks he had filled it up and sent us images. At long last, here is what the fantastic Luke Ramsey did with the 32 grid pages of a Scout Book.

Awesome! Thanks, Luke.
