Often times a fairly busy location, photographers shoulder to shoulder waiting for the first rays of sunlight. On this last morning of '16 I was solo enjoying balmy 2 deg. above zero F temps and drifts of snow mid thigh.

The province of Nan is located in the north of Thailand and borders Laos. It is one of the lesser known provinces of Thailand, but is known for its natural beauty, rich culture and ancient history. It's a great place to visit if you're looking for adventure and relaxation in nature. Road 1256 passes through the mountains of Nan and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding nature. Almost the most beautiful road in Thailand, the view on the side of the road is very beautiful, if you go during the rainy season, the atmosphere will be very good. You can see the green along the two sides of the road on the ridge. In some parts you can see the beautiful view of rice fields over the hills. It may be overgrown on some parts of the road. There are several interesting sights and activities to enjoy along the way. It's great for bird watching, camping, and hiking, and you're unlikely to meet many other people while exploring. You can also visit the Doi Phu Kha National Park, which is known for its beautiful waterfalls, lush forests and spectacular views. Wonderfully cool weather all year round. In addition, there are also several hill tribe villages along the way, where you have the chance to experience the local culture and traditions.

A traditional wooden hut in the mountains of Nan province is built using traditional construction techniques and is made of wood, bamboo and reeds. The cabins are usually located in the mountains and offer a beautiful view of the surrounding nature. They are often equipped with basic amenities such as a bed, a fan and a toilet. Some cabins also have a porch or balcony where you can enjoy the view and the fresh mountain air. The hill tribes live in these traditional simple cabins. The cabins are designed to suit the mountainous terrain and to provide protection from the weather. For example, the Hmong cabins are usually rectangular in shape and have a raised floor built on stilts. The roof is made of straw or grass and is often steep to drain rainwater. Inside, the cabins are divided into different areas, including a living room, bedroom and kitchen. Cabins are sometimes rented out by local families. These simple yet charming accommodations are often used by travelers looking for an authentic Thai experience. Staying in a traditional wooden cabin in the mountains of Nan province offers travelers a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. It is also a great way to experience the local culture and the hospitality of the Thai people.

Aerial view of the Katskhi pillar, a huge natural limestone monolith that rises 131 feet into the air, with a small church on the top, overlooking the river valley of Katskhura, situated at the village of Katskhi in Imereti region, western Georgia.

The church on top of the pillar was built in the 6th to 8th centuries, dedicated to Maximus the Confessor, a famous Christian monk and theologian. It is commonly regarded as one of the most isolated churches in the world. There's also a burial chamber, a wine cellar, three hermit cells and a curtain wall.

Each day, monks living below make the nerve-jangling 20-minute ascent via a thin metal ladder bolted to the side of the rock. The daily pilgrimage to say prayers at the top is said to bring them closer to God.

A spring day exploring the back roads and scenic byways in Baker County Oregon.

Spent the day enjoying the arrival of Spring in Baker County Oregon. Wildflowers are starting to bloom and birds are starting to arrive for spring migration. Spotted a few new arrivals including white crowns yellow headed, redwing, and brewer’s blackbirds, and found ourselves under the watchful eye of several Great Horned Owls.

Cole Run Falls is a very attractive waterfall in Forbes State Forest in the Laurel Highlands. It can be a little out of the way as it's located on a series of unpaved back roads, however the nice part is that there is only a very short hike to the waterfall from a parking area.

This is my second visit to the waterfall and I couldn't be more pleased with the conditions of water level and lighting. I'm glad I decided last minute to fit it in after a long day of waterfalling around the area. I only spent a short time here as I wanted to catch the last of the sunset in the mountains.

On the way to Qeshm airport before flying back to Tehran, we stopped at the Stars Valley (Darr-e Setaregan) canyon and natural monument to catch the last rays of sun. It was the perfect way of saying goodbye to the lovely insular region of the Strait of Hormuz, my first ever visit to the Persian Gulf and hopefully not the last!

More Lost Coast views - Northern California

Was waiting on the fog to break and hopefully create some atmosphere, luckily it did! It sure didn't look like it was going to break, it was cold and grey a few minutes earlier. This was taken the first night of our 25 mile backpacking trip that had an equivalent elevation gain and loss as hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and hiking back up to the rim. We saw the most people this evening but towards the end of the trip the amount of people became lower and lower. The last day we didn't see a soul for miles and miles, guess that's part of the reason why they call it the "Lost Coast".

I'm guessing this is wild buckwheat so if you know please chime in. Thanks for viewing.

In the heart of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, lies the centuries-old Old Bazaar – Stara Čaršija. This is one of the largest and oldest bazaars in the Balkans and has been a lively trading hub since the Ottoman era. The narrow cobblestone streets, traditional shops, teahouses, and old mosques give the district a unique, almost timeless atmosphere. Here, history, culture, and daily life come together. In this photo, we see a group of schoolchildren with their teachers, likely on a field trip. They are ready to learn more about the city’s rich history and the bazaar. The colorful facades, old houses, and narrow alleys form the perfect setting to introduce young generations to their city’s cultural heritage. It is beautiful to see how the bazaar is not only a tourist attraction but also a place where the local community gathers and learns.

A group of schoolchildren explores Skopje’s Old Bazaar, discovering the living history and vibrant atmosphere of this centuries-old marketplace.

In het hart van Skopje, de hoofdstad van Noord-Macedonië, ligt de eeuwenoude Oude Bazaar – Stara Čaršija. Dit is een van de grootste en oudste bazaars van de Balkan en al sinds de Ottomaanse tijd een bruisend handelscentrum. De smalle geplaveide straatjes, traditionele winkeltjes, theehuisjes en oude moskeeën geven de wijk een unieke, bijna tijdloze sfeer. Hier komen geschiedenis, cultuur en dagelijks leven samen. Op deze foto zien we een groep schoolkinderen met hun leraren, waarschijnlijk op excursie. Ze staan klaar om meer te leren over de rijke geschiedenis van de stad en de bazaar. De kleurrijke gevels, oude huizen en smalle straatjes vormen het perfecte decor om jonge generaties te laten kennismaken met het culturele erfgoed van hun stad. Het is mooi om te zien hoe de bazaar niet alleen een toeristische trekpleister is, maar ook een plek waar de lokale gemeenschap samenkomt en leert.

Somdet Phra Maha Muni Si Phu Kha Pagoda is a beautiful gem on top of a majestic mountain that lies at the beginning of the enchanting Doi Phu Kha National Park. This small pagoda is in an idyllic location with a beautiful view of the mountain peaks and a well-tended garden. At an altitude of no less than 1700 meters above sea level, the air is characterized by its freshness and clarity, resulting in a pleasant temperature of about 22 degrees Celsius. Staying in the mountains of Nan province offers travelers a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. It is also a great way to experience the local culture and the hospitality of the Thai people. The view of majestic mountains and scenic plantations surrounding Doi Phu Kha National Park is truly breathtaking. Rice planting is one important agricultural activity in Thailand and it is part of the country's culture and traditions. The rice planting process in Thailand starts with preparing the soil. The farmers plow the soil to loosen it and provide it with nutrients. Then the rice seeds are planted in separate beds. After the seeds have germinated, the young rice plants are planted on the rice fields. These rice fields are usually arranged in terraces to better manage the water and ensure even irrigation. Planting rice is usually done manually, where the farmers manually put the rice plant into the ground. After planting, the fields are usually immersed in water to protect the rice plants from weeds and pests. After about 4 to 6 months, the rice is fully grown and ready to be harvested. After harvesting, the rice grains are washed and dried before being stored or sold at the market. Rice is an important source of food in Thailand and is used in many dishes from curries to fried rice dishes.

We were warmly welcomed to the enchanting farm stay ฮ้างนาตาจันทร์ in Pua, nestled in the middle of vast rice fields. As we immersed ourselves in the soothing atmosphere of Doi Phu Kha National Park, our senses were pampered with the lush green splendor of nature. It was a true oasis of serenity, where we could settle down and completely relax. The mornings started with a gentle breeze that greeted us as we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with fresh local produce. In the afternoon we cooled down at the nearby Tat Luang waterfall, a majestic waterfall that let its cool water flow into beautiful pools. In the evening, the moonlight lit up the rice fields like an enchanting spectacle. We basked in the stillness of the night, surrounded by a symphony of crickets and the soothing sounds of nature.

De provincie Nan is gelegen in het noorden van Thailand en grenst aan Laos. Het is één van de minder bekende provincies van Thailand, maar staat bekend om zijn natuurlijke schoonheid. Rijstplanten is één belangrijke landbouwactiviteit in Thailand en het is een onderdeel van de cultuur en de tradities van het land. Het proces van rijstplanten in Thailand begint met het voorbereiden van de grond. De boeren ploegen de grond om deze los te maken en te voorzien van voedingsstoffen. Terwijl we ons onderdompelden in de rustgevende sfeer van het Doi Phu Kha National Park, werden onze zintuigen verwend met de weelderige groene pracht van de natuur. Het was een ware oase van sereniteit, waar we konden neerstrijken en volledig ontspannen. De ochtenden begonnen met een zacht briesje dat ons begroette terwijl we genoten van een heerlijk ontbijt met verse streekproducten. In de namiddag vonden we verkoeling bij de nabijgelegen Tat Luang waterval, een majestueuze waterval die zijn koele water in fraaie poelen liet stromen. 's Avonds verlichtte het maanlicht de rijstvelden als een betoverend schouwspel. We koesterden ons in de stilte van de nacht, omringd door een symfonie van krekels en het rustgevende geluid van de natuur..
