A cropped composite shot of the occultation of Mars by the Moon in the early hours of 8th December 2022. This image transposes shots of Moon and Mars taken with a Celestron Edge HD11 scope a few hours before the occultation. The images are placed on top of the actual shot to provide a more detailed luminance layer (I couldn't use the main scope for the occultation as a tree blocked the view from my observatory!)

Mars is about to be occulted by the Full Moon on December 7, 2022. This is ingress with the eastward moving (i.e. right to left here) Moon about to cover up Mars on the Moon's western limb. The sky had thin cloud adding the colourful halo, or "corona," around the Moon, so the sky is not black.
Mars was at opposition this night and so was the Moon, so the Moon was full and Mars was at its brightest for this appearance in 2022. The size of the Martian disk was 17 arc seconds across this night and its magnitude was -1.8. Mars is twice the actual size of the Moon, but appears tiny here due to its greater distance — some 206 times farther away than the Moon. This night, the Moon was 397,000 kilometres away, near is apogee point, while Mars was 82 million kilometres away, a week after its closest approach.
This is a single 1/80-second exposure — it is not an exposure blend or composite — with the Canon R5 camera at ISO 400 and on the Astro-Physics 130EDT refractor with a 2x Barlow for an effective focal length of 1560mm at f/12. I've processed the image for high contrast on the lunar disk (using a Subject mask in Camera Raw) to emphasize its lunar seas and bright ray structures, such as from the crater Tycho at bottom, a relatively recent impact. I also brought out the sky colours from the clouds for added effect.

Some of the dark mare areas covered in volcanic dust are visible on the disk of Mars, contrasting with the dark volcanic mare areas of the Moon. The region on the lunar limb that Mars is rising behind is the dark area called Mare Smythii. The main mare or "terra" region on Mars visible here is Mare Cimmerium. On the Moon's disk, Mare Crisium is at top, while below it is Mare Fecunditatis, with the prominent rayed crater Messier A.
This is a crop in from a single frame, not a stack, grabbed from the 8K video file taken with a Canon R5 camera shooting through the Astro-Physics 130mm refractor with a 2X Barlow, for a focal length of 1560mm at f/12. This frame had the best sharpness of many, as the seeing conditions were quite blurry for most of the time. Colour grading of the Canon Log3 video file was with Pixelmator Pro's new video editing functions, which included doing the crop.

During the early hours of 8th December 2022, the almost Full Moon occulted the planet Mars.
I imaged it with a William Optics 70mm refractor, Celestron 3x Barlow, ZWO ASI120MC camera. I used my portable Skywatcher AZGTi mount because I wasn't sure if I'd get the egress from my permanent pier as there are trees in that direction. This image is a reprocess of the video showing the first part of egress; the time when Mars re-emerged from behind the Moon at 06:01 UT.
I shot a two thousand frame video and had to do two separate stacking processes on them, one for the Moon and one for Mars because they were moving so quickly relative to each other. I then processed the images in Lightroom and Fast Stone Image Viewer. I'm slightly astounded to have captured surface features on Mars with such a small refractor, but this amazing telescope often surprises me with how versatile it is! The Celestron 3x Barlow is excellent quality too, which really helped with this. This image is a crop from the original photo.

Aldebaran is seen shortly before being occulted by the moon on March 4, 2017. The photo was taken in Lancaster, PA.

I could enjoy imaging of the whole course of the total lunar eclipse and lunar occultation of Uranus during total lunar eclipse.
Totally eclipsed moon was approaching Uranus from west southwest at the moment. Difference in the width of blur indicated the moving direction of Moon. North is up, and east is to the left.
The frame is pixel duplicated of 5 longest exposure for 4 seconds while the darkest bottom of the total lunar eclipse. We can recognize two satellites, Titania and Oberon near Uranus, and we may be able to recognize two more satellites, Umbriel and Ariel on the more five times increased pixel frame inserted. Miranda was too small and near the planet and sank under the scattered light from the planet. The exposure was too long for the planet, and the color got saturated widely around the center.

Guiding error got smaller around RMS 0.6" in total during guiding at the planet. The error got worse during guiding at a star nearby.

Seeing was poor, but improved for the final stages. My daughter teaches Astronomy at the local high school. We set up 5 telescopes for visual viewing and broadcast this sequence via Zoom. About 50 of her students were in attendance with others viewing the Zoom link.

At 09:18 CET this morning the planet Venus was about to pass behind the Moon. Imaging this by daylight was a bit of a challenge, especially as the sun was nearby, but using a short exposure (1/100th second) and a red filter managed to capture the moment just before Venus disappeared. Image captured using my robotic telescope in Spain.

Just after the occultation ended, "tiny" Saturn reappeared (top left) as the Moon drifted away from it.

Fox Point defines the eastern side of the entrance to St. Anthony Harbour, and a harbour light was light was established on it 1906. This light was exhibited from a lens lantern hoisted atop an open framework painted white and was kept in operation during the navigation season, which typically ran from June to the end of December. In 1912, a lighthouse, in the form of a circular iron tower painted with red and white vertical stripes, was placed on Fox Point. The tower displayed an occulting white light, showing equal alternate periods of 2.5 seconds light and 2.5 seconds dark, at a height of 20.5 metres (67 feet) above the surrounding water. The first keeper of the light was W. Patey.
In 1936, a flat-roofed wooden building, with striping similar to the iron lighthouse, was built on the point to house a fog alarm. The iron tower was replaced in 1960 by a combination fog alarm and lighthouse, consisting of a single-story structure with a square tower rising 2.7 metres (8.9 feet) above its northeast corner. This new lighthouse, which was also painted with red and white vertical stripes, had a focal plane of 26.8 metres (88 feet). At this time, the light was converted from acetylene gas to station-generated electricity.

I followed the star field with the equatorial mount.
The moon was low in the east, when the eclipse began. The moon went up due to the rotation of Earth and drifted toward east northeast in the field of stars in Aries due to the revolution of Moon. Uranus was the brightest in the frame. Duration of the total lunar eclipse was long. Lunar occultation of Uranus was near the end of the total lunar eclipse. Tokyo was near the east limit of the event. Uranus came out from behind the moon, after the end of total lunar eclipse. Moon went up and got brighter than that at the beginning.
Moon looks reddish dark like salmon roe, ikra イクラ up in the sky while total lunar eclipse, and it has bluish part near the edge around the beginning and the end of total lunar eclipse. It is called as "Turquoise Fringe," which is said to be made by ozone layer of Earth.
Umbra, the shadow of Earth also drifted slowly toward west northwest during the eclipse due to the revolution of Earth, and it looks not strictly circular but skewed a bit in this perspective.

Next lunar occultation of planet (Neptune) during total lunar eclipse is in northern Pacific and Arctic Ocean area on December 21, 2037.
