Superlative contemporary and modern decorative arts, design and jewelry by internationally recognized museum class artists will be showcased by 55 international dealers from 12 countries at SOFA NEW YORK 2009.
This was taken while I was in Holbrook for the foster care review board back in the year 2000. I walked the entire town with a Palm Pilot. A fascinating piece of Americana along route 66, lots of old cars, and very small hotel rooms
Joan Miro, stuffed parrot on wood perch, stuffed silk stocking with velvet garter and doll's paper shoe suspended in hollow wood frame, derby hat, hanging cork ball, celluloid fish and engraved map, 1936.
Some of my contributions to the Object Sky pool. I've noticed that more often not these photos are dark and grey, or at least have very strong or dominant shadow elements. I thought I'd see if I could muster up 36 more bright and colourful ones. A couple of these are borderline, but I was impatient. :-)

P.S. Rarely (perhaps never before?) have I done this, but I altered one (only one!) of the originals for use in this mosaic. Just some colour adjustment, which is ironic because the original actually earned a compliment on its colours ... but it didn't look good when presented among the rest of these.

Notes: Invented by Henri Rousselon, head of Goupil's in-house photography studio in 1872, who described his process as follows: “The value of our process of photogravure consists in the possibility of obtaining, by means of light, an etched copper-plate exactly like the ordinary copper-plate, and giving all the gradations of tone and half-tone, as drawn by nature in the ordinary photograph. Our process is founded on the discovery of a chemical substance which crystallizes under the influence of light, the crystals becoming larger the longer they are exposed to it. After exposure it only remains to make a deposit of copper, by means of the electric battery, on the crystalline surface, and thus a plate is obtained yielding proofs in which every detail and gradation of tone is faithfully reproduced.” Walter Bentley Woodbury, the inventor of the woodburytype, asserted that the Goupil process was based on a suggestion made by him to Goupil around 1870. According to Donald Cameron Swan, the process was based on his father’s (Swan’s) photo-mezzotint process. Goupil and its successor, Boussod, Valadon & Cie, used the process extensively for art reproduction, less frequently for printing original photographs. The overall excellence of a Goupil gravure –the density of black, the separation of tones, and the clear, crisp quality of the image– was never surpassed by any other gravure method, according to many sources. Victor-Marie Hugo, vicomte Hugo (26 February 1802 – 22 May 1885) was a French Romantic writer and politician. During a literary career that spanned more than sixty years, he wrote in a variety of genres and forms. His most famous works are the novels The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1831) and Les Misérables (1862). In France, Hugo is renowned for his poetry collections, such as Les Contemplations (The Contemplations) and La Légende des siècles (The Legend of the Ages). Hugo was at the forefront of the Romantic literary movement with his play Cromwell and drama Hernani. Many of his works have inspired music, both during his lifetime and after his death, including the opera Rigoletto and the musicals Les Misérables and Notre-Dame de Paris. He produced more than 4,000 drawings in his lifetime, and campaigned for social causes such as the abolition of capital punishment and slavery.

Aiming to make art more democratic and affordable, the {X}posé Retrograde Series by Tanya Palta is a visual vocabulary of elements that crackle with light, shadow, and texture.
Decisively Retrograde, the multi-exposure series explores the boundaries between representation and abstraction to adapt to a contemporary aesthetic.
Inspired by the greats like Warhol, Dali and even Hirst, {X}posé experiments with numerous digital techniques to form a narrative that juxtaposes surrealism with realism.
Tanya Palta photographs everyday objects, architecture and landscapes in her own inimitable style to create a visual experience that is uniquely artistic and multifarious.
