Number 2 in my theme for this week Isolated Object. In a previous 365 series I found this abandoned workman's boot on a grass verge in Peacehaven, East Sussex, UK.
Having fun with the deep sky, but…
It really presents some challenges you don’t see with a basic nightscape!
I shot this in May 2021 from Lake Powell. A zoom show some star tracking—just a little misalignment in the tracker? Or just trying to push it too long?
I’ll have to try again!

EXIF: 90 light images. 70s, ISO 1600. 10 dark images. William Optics ZenithStar 61II Doublet Refracting scope (360 mm). Canon EOS Ra.
Light coming from the outside plus an LED light from the inside; shot with the 7Artisans manual lens at F1.2 and as close as I could get (about 35cm).
I couldn't think of anything to draw.I should be ashamed of myself of course cause there's plenty to draw. Here are a few examples:-)
Three views of a peculiar connector socket... and each of those evokes something totally different to me, as the titles of the three variants can attest. And it was not even intentional at the time of the shooting. 😇
The socket consists of a matrix of 6x6 (minus the ones in the corners, so 32 in total) golden plated contacts, whose directions are alternating at 90° of each other for each row, so as to guarantee an optimal robustness of the connection, probably. The dimension of the square matrix is 4x4cm, so it complies ideally with the 3" rule of the Macro Mondays group.
For the context, this socket is part of an old electrical device. I salvaged it from an electronic waste collecting point, out of curiosity, as It didn't look like anything I had seen before. With this week's "Socket" topic, it became obvious that I could finally make good use of the "thing". Entering in a search engine some reference number I found on the object, I could trace its origin as being a "communication test device" being used by the army.
Having opened it, I was impressed by the thoughtful engineering that went into its conception. Now that the object played its role a last time, I happily returned it to the electronic junk collection point, albeit as a heap of dissembled parts. 😊
I found this withered anemone branch last year while cleaning up the garden and thought it made a good subject for stacking. At that time I was very busy trying out different approaches to stacking. I have now arrived at a method that gives me the best results. This was one of my first pictures with it.

Macro capture of a Shiny Object .
A quick caveat - while the Spitfire gets all the glory , we must not forget the under rated Hawker Hurricane which was so successful during the Battle of Britain !!
So to start with a random shot of the sky before it went all to cloud and then to the pop up oven top kitchen studio with a new keyring I have been given ( could have done for "new " last week , so glad I saved it ) . The keyring was bought from the RAF Hendon Museum online store and it is of a Spitfire . The capture of the little Spitfire was done with the Sigma 105 , and for a size comparison see the first comment box -knowing how the 105 makes avery short DOF when up close , Ihad to stop down a fair old way to keep the aeroplane in a sharp view .
I took 8 or 9 shots paying special attention to angles to create a realistic air to air style of capture. Next I put them though the cut out studio in Serif CraftArist - good job I had a selection as the cut out could not define the outline of the aircraft very well in most of them and kept taking chunks out of the plane - sorted with this one and put the two shots together for the flight of the silver spitfire . this now captures the the feeling of being up there and the sky is the limit and you are free as a bird - the pilots of the day often say " You do not get into a Spitfire , you just strap it on !! "
And the Silver Spitfire in 2019 is a story on it's own , please check out the story in the link ---------------

And in this vein of up there in the skies with the Merlin singing it's song , this tune should should be heard on the airwaves !!
The Gernheim glassworks
is a location of the LWL industrial museum in Petershagen-Ovenstädt in North Rhine-Westphalia. The museum is located in the historic buildings of the former glassworks, which produced glass as an early industrial factory from 1812 to 1877. With three glass melting furnaces, it was temporarily one of the most important factories in north-west Germany. After the derelict facilities were taken over by the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Council in 1983 and restored, they were opened as a museum on November 7, 1998.
