I have overly-processed this image in order to read some of the words.
"To honor and perpetuate the remembrance of the Moravian martyrs . . ."
esterday I had an assignment.
A little background first: My wife, who is a computer engineer by day, moonlights as an independent film maker (you can see behind the scenes photos of her work on my photo stream). Currently, she is in the early stages of pre-production for her latest short film. The idea for this film was maturing in her head for several years and now it is ripe for realization.
Yesterday, she was talking to me about her need for a “teaser poster” to include in any internet promotions for the film. Being familiar with the film story (as she asks me for feedback on her work the same way I ask her for feedback on my photography) I jumped on the prospect of creating something that relates to the story that could work as film poster. I thought it was a good challenge both technically and artistically.
After coming up with the concept, it took about an hour of working with different setup and lenses to get the desired look. After agreeing on the image, I created several post-processed version. The differences were fairly subtle between those since neither of us likes the look of “over-processed” photos. We chose this one.

1500 frame stack. A little bit over processed but shows the 3 moons nicely.
Skywatcher 130P AZ GOTO, AA Gpcam2 290c, x2 barlow.
The Old Man of Storr, a rocky pinnacle which forms part of the Storr ridge on Skye's Trotternish peninsula.
Despite the over-processed look, I haven't done much to this photo: increased the brightness/contrast slightly to make the grey sky whiter and the shadows darker, but that's about it.
I really don't know why I have been wanting to get some shots of this tree. I love the bench under it, I like the open field, it just looks so peaceful. Another attempt at HDR. I think its a bit over processed, but I liked the details in the clouds.

Sitting. Waiting. Wishing. For a child to come sit on me. I swing slowly in a light sea breeze. Sitting idle i can only imagine the feeling of a child sitting down, gripping tight to my chains and pumping. Swinging, pushing me higher and higher. Until I feel like I can fly! I am as free as a bird, i flow through the air swiftly creating my own breeze this time. Its exhilarating, but alas the time is short. Sooner then i would wish the mother calls, the child slows. With a quick stomp of the foot in the sand i am jolted to a stop. The time is done. And I return to my resting state. Dreaming of the next time I will take flight.
In 8th grade we had a writing assignment, a workshop kind of. The teacher all gave us an item in the room, we had to write from its perspective. Just a short exercise. Then we had to pick our own item, and tell the day in a life of. I chose the clock. It was fun to do.
Today we went to Branford, visited my friend Sonia, went to the beach and these little guys were just sitting there. They looked lonely and i liked their shadows, so i took a picture. :)
An (over) processed version of an earlier posting to try to give the exhaust some contrast.
The loaded coal trains out of Sandaoling open cast pit alternate between the coal washery and the coking plant, roughly 1 in 3 going to the latter. This shot shows a train of empties being propelled back to the mine by JS 2-8-2 8167 after discharging its load at the coking plant. This broad curve connects the workshops (and ultimately the cokeworks) behind the camera with the servicing point at Dongbolizhan off to the right.
This girl can jump!!! (I so can't!). Here she is with all of my vivid, possibly over-processed color. But I like it anyway...
This was one of my favorites of the day because I really like the sun behind her feet!

Learning to use bracketing and HDR. This is the HDR processed exposure. Next photo is the normal exposure version.
There's something about HDR which makes you blind to over-processing. You can see those tacky effects in other people's photos but not your own. Did I do too much? Not enough? Critique is very welcome!
Some Oregon White Oak in pastureland with fog up the hill. This might be a little over processed, but it is from one raw photo.
Hey Hey HEy !
I am still a live, I got few shots from this little wood, in the Irving nature park, this is totally over processed, I made and HDR that I pushed the contrast to then remove colors, this is black and white without gray...kind of.
Pixel 7a Camera - disappointing to find that a shot has been over processed by your phones AI adding too many artefacts :(
Jawbone Canyon is a geographic feature in the Mojave Desert and a Bureau of Land Management area located in Kern County, California, 20 miles (32 km) north of Mojave on CA 14. The area is a popular destination for hikers and off road vehicle enthusiasts.
Europeans first settled in the canyon around 1860—naming it Jawbone because its shape resembled a mandible—and the trail was used as a trade route from Keyesville into the Piute Mountains (not to be confused with the Piute Mountains of the eastern Mojave Desert). During the Kern River gold rush, several gold mines operated in the canyon; the most successful of these, the St. John mine, yielded nearly $700,000 worth of gold between 1860 and 1875. The Gwynn mine, on the Geringer Grade, ran six claims yielding a total of $770,000 worth of gold and quartz before ceasing operations in 1942. Mining continued throughout the 1940s, mainly focused on rhyolite and antimony.

Note: These images were taken with the Samsung S22 Ultra, which I have since returned because I find the images over-processed, but I'm posting them as a review of that device, and because this was a new-to-me area.
...
Arguably a little over-processed (lol, understatement!) but I quite like the effect in this instance.
Another HDR. I think this one may be a little over processed... It's my first experiment with Topaz Adjust... Well, let's let it be for now!
I wish I arrived there a little sooner, so the clouds would be a little more lit up! But it was great nevertheless

Lumix GH2 + Lumix G-Vario 7-14mm + Nik Silver Efex Pro
伊豆大島にて撮影。モノクロはいいけれど、コントラスト等少しやる過ぎたかな…。
Taken at Izu-ōshima, Tokyo. I like the tones, but it feels a bit over-processed at the same time...
happy spring to everyone! i was lazy and took this handheld with a VR lens (1/320 s).
Details are better in the larger size.
(Edit: I replaced the original since it seemed over-processed on a different monitor, hope this looks a little better)
Alright, I have an admission to make: A while ago I realized that my photos sucked. Some of them are way over processed and gaudy. So I decided to try to find the middle of the road approach. I'm a slow learner so I'm not even half way there but, looking at some of my old shots, I cringe. This is one of the reasons I haven't been visiting lately. I have been trying to cut down on the gaudy part. Please bear with me as I continue this process of improvement. What has really been kicking my butt is watching Nik software's web casts - these guys know their stuff. Even if you don't have the Nik Software programs you'll still get inspired by their know-how and style.
As to this shot, I posted it a while ago and, looking at it now, I can't believe I actually liked it. Anyway here's the new version along with the original photo and the gaudy version. It's a long way to self improvement and I readily admit that my shots need improvement ;-).
Over-processed or what?
Reworked version of an old shot which I wasn't happy with a while back. I found it in a file today and 'experimented'.
Was it worth bothering with?
Btw, it's how my youngest granddaughter Georgia looked, five years ago. ( It wasn't posed ; she was tired and in Rhona's arms, so I quietly sneaked behind and clicked.)
Had to save this photo with a bit of cloning, feel its way over processed now but I still like it; thee tree is awesome ;)
Old Warner Elementary School. I've done this shot before but with an old camera and I really over processed it. I wanted to do better this time. This building is right in the middle of town and it's a crowded location, so this is about the only angle you can get it all in one shot,
I reprocessed this, too, to get rid of all the over-processing I did the first time around. Looking forward to Neptune being in the evening sky again so I can image my last remaining planet (sorry, Pluto, you're out of the club)
I over processed the dickens out of this shot in an attempt to make it look like a painting. This is the vase on the altar of my church in Atkinson Illinois.
An HDR of the static Sea King at Merryfield
Tried not to over process it - the original has just as vivid a sky but wanted to expose the window detail...
Playing catch-up on comments tomorrow!!
This was going to be my Single In before Mr. Crow arrived and stole the show.
I did a bit of over processing here to try to get a mood going. Not sure how well that worked.
