S.A. Cokeries et Houillères d'Anderlues first erected coke ovens in 1904 which were replaced by new ones in 1931. The works produced foundry coke and was one of the smallest and oldest coke by-product plants still operating in Belgium at the time of closure in November 2002.
A work-stained and rusting Krupp 0-8-0 tank, Anna N.5 (Works No.1751 built in 1937), shuffles away from the rudimentary coaling point in the extensive yard at Eschweiler Bergwerks Verein (EBV) Alsdorf, near Aachen, on 19th March 1972. A battery of coke ovens is discharging into the electric-powered coke hopper on the right.

This restored and covered beehive oven can be rented at a picnic area off Henness Pass Road at Kyburz Flat in the Sierra’s. Located on the edge of a meadow where sheep were tended in the early to mid-19th century.
My lovely lady got me a Ooni wood fired pizza oven for Father's Day and I'm practicing at it.. some are better than others. This one was pretty good, a little too small (should have been stretched out more) but everyone enjoyed it.
Fresh local Jersey mozzarella, local peaches, green peppers and locally made dough, all purchased at the Warwick. NY farmers market. The only thing I used from a can was the pizza sauce.

I cant say that I was looking forwards to visiting the blubber ovens at Smeerenburg . This is all that remains of the 17th century Dutch blubber ovens used for rendering down Bowhead Whales for export back to Europe.
The small snow storms added extra atmosphere. The area was stuffed full of wildlife, from Walrus and an Arctic Fox to Arctic Terns, Barnacle Geese, Divers and Purple Sandpipers.

Every now and then I go a bit nuts with my Dutch oven and dump all sorts of stuff into it to see what I come up with, and I generally don't stop dumping until the pot is full. So, for those of you who are true chili aficionados, you would likely want to crucify me for calling this chili; but basically that's what it is. It needs work, mainly more hot stuff. OK, medium hot stuff, which I'm sure would turn you aficionados off even more, but hopefully, by the time I get to my last bite, I'll have it just right.

Apparently, since some of the women staying here were well off, they initially had their own kitchen and cook. Eventually, everyone had to eat together in the convent dining room.

Tis the season to deck the halls, wrap those presents and mail the Christmas cards. And, yes, that's only the tip of the iceberg of things to do.
This morning while having a cup of coffee I decided to grab this shot of our kitchen island. We typically decorate it according to each season and/or holiday as they roll around.
Our latest "tradition" is to enjoy a Christmas themed Fortune Cookie as an after-dinner treat. Our fortune cookie container is in good company with a Snowman & Gingerbread Man themed music box snow globe, a cheerful Santa busy baking cookies, and a Santa sleigh filled with ornate ornaments.
