In our attempt to clean the house for a showing my boyfriend stashed some dirty dishes in the oven. But then he FORGOT about the dirty dishes in the oven and TURNED IT ON last night to cook himself some CHICKEN STRIPS. Here is the result of plastic containers in 400 degrees of heat. Needless to say the theme for the evening was "FUCKING HELL".

The Kilns image was taken at 8:26pm when we still had a bit of light.

It was a cloudy mix that night but luckily the Milky Way was visible for our time there.

The Milky Way sky image was taken at 9:11pm. I combined the images using Lightroom and Luminar 4 software.

Perched in the Egan Mountain Range in eastern Nevada, Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park is a scenic, forested retreat. The park features six beehive shaped charcoal ovens that were used from 1876 through 1879 to help process rich silver ore that was discovered in the area. Once mining ended, the ovens were used to shelter travelers and even had a reputation as a hideout for stagecoach bandits.

I love the old school double oven that's built into the kitchen wall at my Meemo's house.

My friend constructed this Homemade Stone Pizza Oven for his kitchen ! :)

Oven birds are named for the construction of their dome-shaped ground level nest which resembles a old-time bread oven. Domed nests actually predate the familiar open cup-shaped nests of many songbirds today.

I cooked this healthy Chicken and Vegetable Dinner in my lovely Lodge porcelain coated cast iron dutch oven because it is the best pot to cook things in. Cast Iron heats so evenly and keeps food very hot.

There is nothing quite like homemade pizza...as long as you don't burn it!

Our interactive pizza oven lets you pick your choice of toppings, cook, and hopefully not burn it! Then you can serve it to your friends, or eat it all for yourself! It also comes with a hud to change the texture of the oven and wood.

You can get yours at this round of the Food Court, opening on the 5th at 12am slt until the 25th! - maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dreamers/128/171/28

I don't remember exactly where these coke ovens were located or why there was red dog (I think that's what it is) piled in front as I have seen a lot of ovens but never with red dog. Here is a link about the byproduct that I remember being used for roads back in the 1950's:

"Red dog is coal waste that has been subjected to heat. The waste typically is a combination of very low quality coal and “carbonaceous” shale, or, black shale with a lot of carbon in it.

“The coal operators just piled this material up and let it sit. As a result of heat generated within the piles, the carbonaceous material ‘burned’ in a low-oxygen environment, kind of like what happens in a coke oven. Some of the rock turned red as a result.

“Eventually, some enterprising companies began mining the red dog piles to use as inexpensive road paving material. My grandfather used it on the driveway to his farm near the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport, as did many others who lived in rural Western Pennsylvania.”

An old tablescrap, but it fits the domestic theme. I'm not a fan of the chunks of grey showing on the sides.

An earth oven or cooking pit is one of the most simple and long-used cooking structures, not to be confused with the masonry oven. At its simplest, an earth oven is simply a pit in the ground used to trap heat and bake, smoke, or steam food.

To bake food, the fire is built, then allowed to burn down to a smoulder, and the food is placed in the oven and covered. Steaming is similar; fire-heated rocks are put into a pit and are covered with green vegetation to add moisture, large quantities of food, more green vegetation (and sometimes water) if more moisture is needed to create the steam that is needed to cook the food, and then a final covering of earth is added over everything. The food in the pit can take up to several hours to almost a full day to cook, whether by dry or wet methods. Today, many communities still use cooking pits, at least for ceremonial or celebratory occasions: the Indigenous Fijian lovo, the Hawaiian luau, Māori hāngi and the New England clam bake. This Oven Bird just popped up in front of me unexpectedly on a tree limb. Usually I see them secretly hopping along the ground.

Grated manioc is pressed in a palm fiber "tipiti" to squeeze out the liquid and starch, leaving behind this mass, ready to be oven-dried.

Ah, "Les French", they think of everything, don't they!

Best viewed in lightbox and on full screen (F11), of course!

Oven-baked vegetables are delicious and quick to prepare. Red onions, garlic, bell peppers, zucchini, and potato wedges are just a few of the possible vegetables. We love them and they're one of our favorites. 😎👍

Charcoal Oven closed its doors last night after 58 years in business in Oklahoma City. The sign is coming down today and will be saved, but it's going to be very sad to drive down NW Expressway and see a bland and boring Discount Tire in place of this fun and fabulous icon.
