I had this image in my head when I first heard the assignment this month on the Martin Bailey Photography website. I couldn't enter it as composite images aren't allowed. It's all good, I'm just happy to get it out of my head. The theme was Organic.
Slices of rare organic grass fed beef marinated in salt, pepper, soya sauce, balsamic vinegar, maple syrup and honey. Sits on yam and potato. Oh ya sauce is a mix of honey, peanut butter, worschester sauce, salt, pepper and some other stuff I can't remember...
Lunch on a winter day.
I was playing with Alan Turing's Reaction-Diffusion algorithm for modeling morphogenesis the other day. It's a way of explaining how certain organic shapes grow.. for example, versions of it can generate random patterns that are just like leopard spots, or a different one makes stripes. I really wanted to implement the leopard spot algorithm, but I just couldn't find enough details on it.
Anyway, my work announced a contest to make images using our software which can be printed into big posters and framed to decorate the walls. I modified Turing's algorithm so that the image would develop multiple levels of substructure. I'm pretty happy with the image as my submission, except I'm thinking I may need to redo the color mapping.

The family and I went to the pub for a Sunday session today, Grant and I had a beer while the kids had ORGANIC lemonade and cola...lol Grant went and bought the drinks and I couldn't believe my luck when he brought back these organic drinks, perfect for the challenge!
I guess I could have used this for celebration as well. Celebrating Sunday family time 8) but I'll see if I can find another shot from today that might fit that challenge

This incredible spread, served up for our guests by a local family, is domestically produced as well as homemade.
A vermicomposting bucket is mixed with food waste and worms. Several different species of worms such as Canadian nightcrawlers, red wigglers or earthworms are excellent at decomposing organic waste products and turn those throwaway food scraps, paper or yard waste into compost as beneficial soil amendments. Compost is the key to organic farming and researchers at MU's Bradford Research Center in Columbia are looking at ways to make this style of food production more efficient and affordable.
