Madagascar - Un travail sale et épuisant. Exploiter quelques lopins de terre serait sans doute plus rentable. Mais l'espoir -illusoire- de faire fortune, incite ces paysans à se reconvertir dans la prospection d’or.

Madagascar - Exhausting work. Continuing to exploit a few plots of land would undoubtedly be more profitable. But the illusory hope of making a fortune encourages these peasants to retrain in prospecting for gold.

It was sunny and bright, we went for a walk along the Fraser River. I couldn't resist taking pictures!

Many thanks to all those who view, fav or comment my pictures. It is much appreciated.

Aquilegia (common names: granny's bonnet or columbine) is a genus of about 60-70 species of perennial plants that are found in meadows, woodlands, and at higher altitudes throughout the Northern Hemisphere, known for the spurred petals of their flowers. The genus name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because the shape of the flower petals, which are said to resemble an eagle's claw. The common name "columbine" comes from the Latin for "dove", due to the resemblance of the inverted flower to five doves clustered together. The Colorado Blue Columbine (A. caerulea) is the official state flower of Colorado. Large numbers of hybrids are available for the garden, since the European A. vulgaris was hybridized with other European and North American varieties. Aquilegia species are very interfertile, and will self-sow. Some varieties are short-lived so are better treated as biennials.

Take your pick.

Happy Bench Monday!

"Tag: A metal or plastic point at the end of a shoelace that stiffens it, making it easier to insert through an eyelet."

Today I learned that the word tag can be used as synonym for aglet. I didn't know this definition before the current Macro Mondays theme (neither I knew the word aglet XD).

'Life is either a darling adventure or nothing.'

Wearing a costume reminiscent of Santa Fe's ghost, mid-90s looking BNSF local freight L CHI1051 31A hustles 62 cars of Galesburg traffic out of the Chicago area at Lockport, IL, on a chilly Halloween afternoon along the Chillicothe Subdivision. It's beginning to look a lot more like Christmas than Halloween on this 31st of October, prompting many Chicago-area municipalities to postpone their trick-or-treating festivities to a night of more favorable weather.

Felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders...

Pressure to break or retreat at every turn;

Facing the fear that the truth I discovered;

No telling how all this will work out;

But I've come too far to go back now.

I am looking for freedom,

Looking for freedom...

And to find it cost me everything I have.

Well I am looking for freedom,

Looking for freedom...

And to find it may take everything I have!

I know all too well it don't come easy;

The chains of the world they seem to move in tight;

I try to walk around it,

But stumbling's so familiar;

Try to get up but the doubt is so strong;

There's gotta be a wind in my bones...

I'm looking for freedom,

Looking for freedom;

And to find it, cost me everything I have.

Well I'm looking for freedom,

I'm looking for freedom...

And to find it may take everything I have!

Oh

Not giving up has always been hard,

So hard...

But if I do the things the easy way I won't get far.

Hmm, life hasn't been very kind to me lately,

Well,

But I suppose it's a push for moving on,

Oh yeah;

In time the sun's gonna shine on me nicely,

One day yeah,

Something tells me good things are coming and I ain't gonna not believe.

I'm looking for freedom,

Looking for freedom;

And to find it, cost me everything I have.

Well I'm looking for freedom,

I'm looking for freedom...

And to find it may take everything I have!

I'm happy to announce some of my work is featured in the latest issue of View Magazine. Here's a link to issue 7.

My photography has been more or less on hiatus for the past couple of years but I decided to go to Tisvilde Hegn, a forest in the northern part of Sjælland (Sealand). I went both to enjoy the warm spring day but also to see if I could grind some of the rust off. It turns out that there is a lot more rust than I thought - I had trouble just finding interesting subjects. And on quite a few of those I did spot, I just couldn't seem to catch what I wanted.

Anyway... A pond with some trees on the edge did actually lend itself beautifully to me and I managed to get this onto the memory card.

I spent some free time sewing Blythe Halloween dresses in August knowing I would not have any time in October. This is one of them. The pumpkin fabric is from Joanne's. It is a knit.

The sun came out but the air was still very cold. Shizandra loves this weather, she can roll around in the snow after running around like a nut.

First, let me draw your attention to one of my marvelous multi-use perches. The biggest benefit of it is that it is mobile and can be put into various locations depending on lighting conditions. Its major drawback, however, is that it is not automated and requires manual intervention on my behalf to accomplish this. Oh well, perhaps some time in the future I will put it on tracks and automate the procedure to follow the light. Ok, enough already about the stand.

You may think that this is an argument over food or some territorial dispute. Well, you would be mistaken. Easy mistake to make since you weren’t there and I had the benefit of listening in on the conversation. So, what it really is about is that the guy on the right is upset over the left one’s hygiene. He caught him pooping while on the perch and is justifiably upset over that inappropriate table behavior. Kind of reminds me of the scene in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” where Steve Martin is asking for permission to go to the bathroom (while sitting at an elaborately decorated and exquisitely set dinner table). Ok, I will leave it at that. Those of you who have not seen the movie will just have to make the effort. Still makes me break up every time I think about it. Back to the photo. The guy on the left is somewhat taken aback by this verbal attack but realizes he was in the wrong and tries to explain that it was a matter of “now or never” …

Eastern Screech Owl

The Eastern Screech Owl or Eastern screech-owl (Megascops asio) is a small owl that is relatively common in Eastern North America, from Mexico to Canada. This species is native to most wooded environments of its distribution and, more so than any other owl in its range, has adapted well to manmade development, although it frequently avoids detection due to its strictly nocturnal habits.

Halloween or congress?

I keep hearing that republicans are conservative… this is certainly not born out by their behavior, or rhetoric.

.

Tax cuts for billionaires ?

Religion in schools?

Attacking Medicare and social security?

( with respect to the artist who created this diorama last Halloween. I do not know their politicks and these opinions and my comments are my own and not necessarily those of this artist)

Lucy:"All you have to do is walk up to a house, ring the doorbell, and say 'tricks or treats.'"

Sally: "Are you sure it's legal?"

Lucy: "Of course it's legal."

Sally: "I wouldn't want to be accused of taking part in a rumble."

The rock train rolls north towards Hillsboro, over Tonquin pond. I've been wanting to shoot this spot for a while.

Or, as JW might say, "You can only get so sharp whilst peering through a window."

Series of three. Sorry but I did not see its tail. It dashed across the path in front of me and I thought that was that. But it took pity on me and reappeared and stood and posed for just a minute. I cannot tell which it is. It has got very white paws. Can anyone help with an identification please.
