50 034 'Furious' and 50 035 'Ark Royal' back onto their train at Newquay, the 17.40 to Paddington on 4 October 1987. This special is the final locomotive hauled train to the Cornish seaside town, as the semaphore signalling and the run round were removed the following day. Alas the bank of cloud visible in the background meant that the departure was in complete gloom!

Sleeping bats cling onto a tree in Costa Rica.

I found this newly emerged Four-spotted Chaser dragonfly low down in some rushes near the local pitch & putt course. Whilst I was trying to take some photos he slipped even further down in the vegetation. I was worried he might get stuck so I gently retrieved him. He clung onto my finger quite firmly & posed for a few photos before I moved him onto a Yellow Flag Iris stem. HWW!

The Railway walk between Bath and Bristol, got a bit samey so i decided to take a left onto the towpath of the Avon Navigation. Once off the railbed one gets a better view and far more interestering walking along the river bank.....

Abbey Gate, opening onto the Great Courtyard, was the secular entrance which was used by the Abbey's servants. In 1327, it was destroyed during the Great Riot by the local people, who were angry at the power of the monastery, and it had to be rebuilt. Norman Gate dates from 1120–48 and was designed to be the gateway for the Abbey Church and it is still the belfry for the Church of St James, the present cathedral of Bury St Edmunds. (Text taken From Wikipedia) On the right is the cathedral wich dates back to 1051. However, the tower was only completed in 2005!

When waves crash onto the rocks, there are a few pathways on the cliffs that lead to small waterfalls like these. The Paradise Park Cliffs has tons of cool spots to see. I love the look of the contrast between the water and the rocks.

The BLM connects Mürren with Lauterbrunnen with this railway and a cable car.

I went to Lincolnshire for a couple of days last weekend. I've always liked this area near Barton and there is a beautiful yellow house with red phonebox in front of it.

I love the contrasting colours and this time there was a lone plant growing between the two.

I tried shooting the whole box, wall and adjacent bench but it didn't do anything for me. However, when I knelt down and saw this I realised this was the shot I was looking for. So, I took this.

This was clinging onto life through the pebbled ground and probably a metaphor for how I feel at this moment.

Acte 3: The Pick-Up

I went out onto the stoop of my flats’ front porch and stopped as a wolf whistle reached my ears, the lobes still prickling a bit from the heavy diamond earrings they were tasked with wearing. The jewellery was sparkling beautiful, and I adored the look, but in a way I couldn’t wait to remove the weighty buggers.

The whistling culprit was my grinning prat of a brother who was standing at the curb, leaning against the car with his arms folded as he eyeballed me up and down.

The car he was leaning upon was a cream coloured Rolls, with black trim, borrowed from our uncle who is into collecting Antiques of any sort. Especially classic automobiles. Being a confirmed bachelor, we tease him with good humour that his collection is a surrogate for a family.

My brother, now holding the rear passenger door open for me, was also dressed up fancy. Wearing a black tux with shiny lapels, matching vest, and a hand-tied (by uncle) white bow tie. His starched white shirts sleeves were held by black onyx cuff links set with diamond chips and he wore his gold Rolex, bought while in university in New Guinea. He claims it was legit, but I always felt a dark alleyway was involved.

I went to him and turned, as he took my cue and helped me on with my wrap.

I giggled as I felt his fingers steal a gliding touch along my sleekly gowned backside, smiling to myself as he did so. He had always liked it when I wore this dress, always gushing over how very pretty I was, indeed.

It made one rather happy knowing there was at least one person who thought I looked good, even if it was my brother. But a lass like me has to take whatever she compliments she can get.

So anyway, he then, like a proper chauffeur, lifted my hand and helped me up into the back passenger’s side brown leather seat.

He got himself situated around in the driver's seat, and putting the Rolls in gear, pulled away from the curb to take the twenty-minute drive to my chum Kathleen’s small lakeside cottage, located on the edge of town.

Transposed onto a pentagon. This makes possible some shaping of the petals, which I found pretty.

FP & Explore #14....Thank you, Friends!

A sign of our times, carried by the wind across Regional Road 31 and onto a field in Findlay Creek (Ottawa), Ontario, Canada.

I actually managed to get up for 4.30am and up onto Hengistbury Head ready to capture the sun rising! The cloud stopped me from getting the shot I intended on (excuse for a revisit!) but the pathway leading across to the coastguard hut caught my eye. Very philosophical but it got me thinking about my pathway and all the great things happening at the moment.

Anyway, for a moment I thought I wouldn't come away with anything then the sky lit up for a short time just as the sun was rising to the left of the scene.

Have a great day guys!

Petunia and Clematis greet me as I step out onto the decking.

You know those moments in life you try to hold onto long afterward because they remind you of that one time you were brave and crazy and full of life and whatever happens next, you can look back at those moments and think I did that, that was me, I can handle this, life?

For me that was standing barefoot on an iceberg in a sleeveless dress at Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon in Iceland.

It wasn't that hard. I made sure to pick an iceberg that wasn't too sharp or too slippery or too in danger of collapsing or too deep in water. And for such an arctic landscape, it was a surprisingly mild, still morning - a welcome respite from the usually-unforgiving Icelandic winds.

But even if it's not by any means the most difficult thing I've ever done, it's a reminder of all good and wild and courageous things in life. If I can stand on that iceberg, maybe I can do anything.

Later, Jamaica.

I say "later" because "goodbye" is far too final. Just because I no longer live on that giant little island doesn't mean it isn't permanently ingrained onto every part of me. Whether I come back in 2yrs or 20, you'll always be in my heart. And there's nothing anyone can do to change that.

My shot going to Jamaica. Huh.

LTEX 3011 (ex-MEC nee-PC GP40) crosses the vertical lift bridge over the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne, MA. This is one of the first times, if not the first, 3011 has made it's way onto Cape Cod after spending the entirety of it's time based out of Taunton. Behind 3011 is MC 2008, 2006, and the southbound Energy Train.

Mesa Arch, in Canyonlands National Park (Utah, U.S.A.), is a window opening onto an abyss; looking through it before sunrise, when the world is pitch dark, may even be a bit scary. Once the first light of dawn starts lighting it up and making it glow in incredibly brilliant and warm oranges, however, and you stand behind it seeing the world come to life through this spectacular window opening, you feel like there is nowhere else you'd rather wanted to be.

I never did visit Philadelphia during the Bicentennial "boat tram" era, but it looks like they were having fun with this thing. Here's the SEPTA "Blackpool Boat Tram" turning off Germantown Ave. onto Erie Ave in November 1978. Today these tracks are still there, but no overhead wire and no trolley operations on these routes.

Have a marvelous Friday, everyone...

Moving onto Upstate New York where BN E-units 9915 and 9921 have found a second career working on the NYS&W, now as the 2402 and 2400, they bring the annual Marathon Maple Festival train down from Syracuse, arriving at the old DL&W freight house in Marathon on the morning of 6 April 1997.

While staying in Bozeman, MT for a night prior to partaking in a lengthy RV trip down to Yellowstone National Park, I awoke on the morning of Friday, July 22nd to a report about an extra train movement on the Montana Rail Link 2nd Subdivision. With the Residence Inn Bozeman motel virtually right next to the MRL’s mainline through town, a short walk over onto the N 19th Ave bridge was all that was needed to set up for the extra’s arrival at Bozeman.

At 08:35, a visible headlight and the distinct roar of twin 16-710-G3C-T2 prime movers indicated the presence of the extra, the MRL M GARLAU1 21. Having originated the night before at Garrison, MT, the 110 car manifest was an extra move out of the BNSF interchange yard in Garrison that connects with the BNSF Copper City Subdivision to Butte, MT. Supposedly this train was run in order to clear out traffic in said yard to keep traffic moving. The two SD70ACe’s up front, #MRL4406 and #MRL4405, were purchased and built new by EMD in 2014 for the railroad. With the MRL giving up it’s lease of the former Northern Pacific mainline to BNSF, scenes like this of MRL operations will very soon be a thing of the past.
