Tirta Empul Temple, Tampaksiring, Bali.
The most common form of offering that is seen everywhere in Bali, on a daily basis, is known as canang. It placed in temples, shrines and strategic locations of importance with a waft from a stick of incense and sprinkle of holy water. Shop keepers place this kind of flower offering in front of their stall upon opening up for trade and taxi drivers invariably have one on the dashboard of their vehicle.
Even as the island succumbs to a modern way of life, the art of making the most common form of offerings is still something that almost any young Balinese girl is able to do. This is an inherited practice, along with the duty to take care of the family shrine, which has been passed down through the generations.

Canang sari is one of the daily offerings made by Balinese Hindus to thank the Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa (the "All-In-One God") in praise and prayer.
Canang sari can be seen in Balinese temples, on small shrines in houses, and on the ground or as a part of a larger offering.
Clumsy tourists need to mind their feet, as the offerings are everywhere!
Slowly, Winter withers on the vine. And slowly, Spring struggles to be born.
Finally. I don't know what magical transubstantiation goes on in my veins as soon as the first signs of springtime appear--sunshine plainly turns to more than just vitamins in these wacky arteries, maybe it turns to liquor or soma or something--but I'm happy to have it once more chugging through the frosty channels of my body.
It's also plain that I need to up my photo game a little bit. As the months go on, I should start fiddling with Ye Olde Camera more and more.
But for now, back to work, back to word count. Ahoy, mateys.

A Blessed Lenten Season to Everyone
“Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.”
Albert Camus
You can not seek without paying the offerings. It is not only about the prayers but every aspect of your life.
It is common to see Buddhist practitioners lighting candles or butter lamps while reciting prayers. This practice helps to keep the image of Enlightenment and all it represents at the centre of one's attention and is therefore said to be very beneficial on both a conscious and sub-conscious level.
This is what I came to Rum to see and I was delighted they were offering one tour at 2pm. The castle is enormous, it seems so sad that it really is falling into disrepair. The cost of restoring it is estimated at around 15 million pounds only!!
Kinloch Castle dates from 1897, and it is thought it took three years to complete it all, the stone was imported from the Island of Arran. You can only imagine the amount of people it took to complete such a building as this in just three years and that was long before all our modern appliances.
The castle was the holiday home of Sir George and Monica Bullough, Sir George having inherited the wealth of his father John who had made his fortune in the textile industry. It is reported that they only spent three weeks a year on Rum.
I have long lost the feeling of being intimidated in life. My career involved a lot of public speaking and interfacing with some high level executives in both business and government. I soon found out most of these individuals were easy to talk with and had personal goals in life that made them very normal.
But when it comes to my hobby of photography, it is a different matter. When I open myself up to the public by posting a photo, I often cringe when I see the exquisite shots other folks around the world post in comparison.
As most of us already know, this owl season in Minnesota has been extraordinary as many owls decided our state was a better place to find food this winter. One result of this invasion has been some of the more wonderful owl photography you will ever see.
My wife and I deliberated whether or not we should go to a couple of places in Minnesota where there were a lot of sightings but when I read of these places getting overrun by both amateur and professional photographers, I decided I did not need that in my life.
It’s been several years since my wandering mate and I have seen an owl locally. But during all the publicity as we were making our way through some murky wooded areas close to home my wife spotted this Barred Owl watching us and posing as though he was grateful we were taking notice of him.
Barred Owls have a special type of feather that helps them fly almost silently. Aiding them in their survival is their acute hearing as they can hear prey moving under a snow cover or leaves.
