Senso-Ji Buddhist Temple in Tokyo. A note about the swastika, it predates the inverted similar shape coopted by the Nazis. In Buddhism this shape is symbolizes the footprints of the Buddha and the Dharma wheel.
Macau is always fun to visit. A-Ma is the oldest temple in the town, it was built in 1488, and is dedicated to the sea goddess. The temple has many structures on a hill. This devoted lady brought offerings to Buddhas.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

A woman holds a canang sari (a basket of flowers meant as an offering to the Hindu gods) on her head at a waterfall in Bali. While Indonesia is a Muslim majority nation, Bali is an oasis of Hinduism that stands out from the rest of the country. It's a common sight to see women in Bali dressed like this and carrying baskets on their heads, usually on their way to a village temple. Everywhere you go in Bali you will see small baskets of offerings filled with flowers, incense, small bits of food or coins placed at temples, deities, tiny makeshift shrines, at the threshold to a house or business, or sometimes just in the middle of the street. The creation of these modest offerings model the generosity, faith, and devotion that exists in the hearts and souls of the Balinese people. These values translate into everything they do and everything they are. The Balinese are some of the gentlest, kindest, and most hospitable people that I’ve ever met, and I’m sure this is in no small way due to their culture and religion.
Gone for a vintage / romantic look here.

The day before our departure, the gods of Bali offer us a luxurious ceremony. To calm the spirits of the sea and offer to the people a better world and without violence of the offerings are embarked on small boats and thrown to the sea

www.flickr.com/people/23898224@N06/ has been posting great pictures of her trip to SE Asia, including pictures of temple offerings, which made me want to share this picture I took in Chiang Mai some time ago. These small shrines are one of my favorite parts of visiting Thailand. They are so personal, beautiful and moving.

The Yellow Delli,
Honiton, Devon, UK.
Deli offering sandwiches, salads & breakfast, plus a juice bar mixing up smoothies & other drinks.
Not all sweetness and light:-
Surrounded by beautiful, rolling countryside and famous for its lace, pottery and antiques, Honiton is a quiet, sleepy market town like so many others in Devon. - - Which is why it seems a strange place for a cafe founded by a staunchly religious community - known as the Twelve Tribes - who began life in the southern US state of Tennessee back in the 1970s.
But that is what the Yellow Deli, situated on the town's high street, is: one of the group's many cafes dotted around the world where, according to their website, they aim to 'pass on the love, joy, and peace spoken of in the New Testament'.
The Twelve Tribes, formerly known as the Vine Christian Community Church, the Northeast Kingdom Community Church, the Messianic Communities, and the Community Apostolic Order, is a new religious movement: founded by Gene Spriggs that sprang out of the Jesus movement in 1972 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Twelve Tribes's beliefs resemble those of Christian fundamentalism, the Hebrew Roots movement, Messianic Judaism, and the Sacred Name Movement; however, the group believes that all other denominations are fallen, and it therefore refuses to align itself with any denomination or movement. The group has strict courtship rules, and their views on child rearing has been a source of controversy.
The group supports itself through the operation of several businesses, most of which revolve around agriculture, as well as cafés and restaurants, all using unpaid and often child labour.
Some governments and advocacy groups have labelled the group a cult.
Take from this "what you will."
(Personally I find them a bit creepy).
I'm honored to have this image be the first offering of The LPV Collection.

The Christmas connection to poinsettias comes from a Mexican legend which tells of a poor girl who dreams of bringing a beautiful gift to favour the Virgin Mary for a Christmas Eve service, yet has nothing worthy.
On the way to Church, she meets an angel who tells her to pick some weeds. She kneels by the roadside and, despite her protests that they are far from desirable, gathers a handful of common weeds and makes her way to a small chapel where she places her offering on the altar.
The moment she does, they burst into blooms of brilliant red poinsettias and her sorrow turns to joy. The Mexicans renamed it Flor de Nochebuena (Christmas Eve Flower).
Poinsettias are native to Mexico, where the Aztecs used them in the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries both for medicinal purposes and for making dye.
Poinsettias are 'short day plants', meaning they flower when there are less than 12 hours' daylight, to ensure the minimum of competitors of pollinating insects.

The Chinese Cemetery in Nevada City, California. The earliest Chinese pioneers came to California during the Gold Rush of 1849-50. During the early 1860's they began returning the remains of their deceased to China for traditional burials. There are no human remains left on this site.
This was used to burn offerings to the departed for their use in the spirit world. Paper replicas were burned as well as personal possessions of the deceased.
