They say you shouldn't photograph other people's art and on the whole I agree with that. In this case however, because this piece was so unique, I thought I would photograph it and show it because frankly it deserves to be seen. This piece is a near life size sculpture by a French artist named Emeric Chantier which we saw displayed in an art gallery in a wing of Chateau Malrome, which is Toulouse-Lautrec's former home near Bordeaux. When you see it in real life it is breath taking, so completely original.

Orkney
Another one from the archives, this one from beautiful Orkney. Taken from Brodgar looking across the Loch of Stenness, in the distance are the hills in Hoy. Hoy means ‘high island” which it is compared to the other Orkney islands.

Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord - in the village of Krasnoye, Staritsky District, Tver Region, Russia.
In the second half of the 18th century, M.F. Poltoratsky became the owner of the estate in the village of Krasnoye, Staritsky district, who decided to replace the old wooden church with a new one, copied from the famous Chesme church, built in 1777-1780 by order of Catherine II by architect Yu. M. Felten near Petersburg.
His first petition “to build a stone church with his own kosht” dates back to 1783. After a second petition, Bishop Ioasaph Zabolotsky signed the charter of the church on July 30, 1785.
The construction of the temple was carried out under the care and dependency of his wife for five years, and was completed in 1790.
Built in a pseudo-Gothic style, it is an almost exact copy of the Chesme Church in St. Petersburg, built 10 years earlier.
The height of the structure is 24 meters, length and width - about 20 meters.
In 1931, the Soviet authorities closed the temple. The bells were sent for melting down, the stone fence was dismantled and transported to Staritsa, to the city garden. The interior of the church was used for the needs of the local collective farm, destroyed and dilapidated.
In 1997, the restoration of the temple began.

Первое его ходатайство «построить каменную церковь собственным коштом» относится к 1783 году. После повторного прошения епископ Иоасаф Заболотский 30 июля 1785 года подписал храмоздательную грамоту.
Строительство храма осуществлялось попечением и иждивением его супруги на протяжении пяти лет, и было закончено в 1790 году.
Построен в псевдоготическом стиле, является почти точной копией Чесменской церкви в Санкт-Петербурге, построенной на 10 лет раньше.
Высота сооружения составляет 24 метра, длина и ширина — около 20 м.

Kestrel - Falco tinnunculus (M)

The common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) is a bird of prey species belonging to the kestrel group of the falcon family Falconidae. It is also known as the European kestrel, Eurasian kestrel, or Old World kestrel. In Britain, where no other kestrel species occurs, it is generally just called "the kestrel".
This species occurs over a large range. It is widespread in Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as occasionally reaching the east coast of North America.
Kestrels can hover in still air, even indoors in barns. Because they face towards any slight wind when hovering, the common kestrel is called a "windhover" in some areas.
Unusual for falcons, plumage often differs between male and female, although as is usual with monogamous raptors the female is slightly larger than the male. This allows a pair to fill different feeding niches over their home range. Kestrels are bold and have adapted well to human encroachment, nesting in buildings and hunting by major roads. Kestrels do not build their own nests, but use nests built by other species.
Their plumage is mainly light chestnut brown with blackish spots on the upperside and buff with narrow blackish streaks on the underside; the remiges are also blackish. Unlike most raptors, they display sexual colour dimorphism with the male having fewer black spots and streaks, as well as a blue-grey cap and tail. The tail is brown with black bars in females, and has a black tip with a narrow white rim in both sexes. All common kestrels have a prominent black malar stripe like their closest relatives.
The cere, feet, and a narrow ring around the eye are bright yellow; the toenails, bill and iris are dark. Juveniles look like adult females, but the underside streaks are wider; the yellow of their bare parts is paler. Hatchlings are covered in white down feathers, changing to a buff-grey second down coat before they grow their first true plumage.
Data from Britain shows nesting pairs bringing up about 2–3 chicks on average, though this includes a considerable rate of total brood failures; actually, few pairs that do manage to fledge offspring raise less than 3 or 4. Compared to their siblings, first-hatched chicks have greater survival and recruitment probability, thought to be due to the first-hatched chicks obtaining a higher body condition when in the nest. Population cycles of prey, particularly voles, have a considerable influence on breeding success. Most common kestrels die before they reach 2 years of age; mortality up until the first birthday may be as high as 70%. At least females generally breed at one year of age; possibly, some males take a year longer to maturity as they do in related species. The biological lifespan to death from senescence can be 16 years or more, however; one was recorded to have lived almost 24 years.

View of the Mosel river from the Prinzenkopf lookout tower, it's a wonderful viewpoint all year, but on a clear autumn day it feels even more special, my plan is to back there next month, not to the same viewpoint, there are so many spots with spectacular views around there, the problem is the weather, low clouds are drawn to the valley like flies to shit when the vineyards are are at their most colorful, but there can be bright spells in the afternoon, hoping for the best.

WIT: Sleight of hand is the only way I'll get a royal flush, I'm sure, lol! Camera on tripod, put on a timer, and a slightly longer exposure to capture the motion blur. Many tries to get a half-decent one. I like the idea of negative space, as a hand like this comes from nowhere!

So I am back after a difficult time, where the cold I thought I had because I got soaked in the rain, actually turned out to be Covid. I think I had been incubating this for a while before. Two days after me, my partner became very ill with it as well. We think we caught it at the same time, when we were out shopping. To jump forward a few weeks as we do not need to go over the experience of having Covid, many know to their cost what this is like, even if you have had the vaccinations, which we had, but suffice it to say here, my partner became very ill indeed, and because of my country’s depleted health system, and the age of my partner, I was starting to think I might have to make some difficult choices.
But thankfully, somehow, with me on twenty-four hour watch for three days and my partner’s resilience, and I think we can say here, that our love for each other, and the wish to remain with each other for as long as we can, helped my partner pull through. We are still recovering, but getting better each day.
I am talking about this because this work, and the work that follows it, is directly influenced by what we have both been through. The work that I have produced already on Flickr is what I experience, what you see on my Flickr page is the result of events in my life. It is a personal exploration, but it is one where others find a similar truth, a recognition, and the fact that I share these works with you means that I am telling others that I understand about the often emotional events in your life.
But this piece, I have dedicated to my husband, and to the God who gave us a little more time.
This image was taken at Glynde Church, East Sussex, UK, before we fell ill, at the beginning of October. This place, as many of you know, is one of my most favourite places to be on earth. It connects me with the divine. And I shall be returning to it as soon as I can.
When I was working on these new pieces, I listened to the music of U2. They are a personal favourite of mine, as I grew up with their music. Bono’s lyrics are poetic. Beautiful. He has always been an inspiration to me.
So with this work, I am pairing it with their track ‘Kite’, as this is what I was listening to when I was writing my poetry and concentrating on my image. This version is live, and sublime.

An amazing "river of glass" surrounds an island in an open courtyard at the Michigan Library and Historical Center, Lansing, Michigan. (Lansing is the State Capital of Michigan).
An 80-foot tall White Pine grows on the "island" and soars skyward through the floors of the building and emerges in the open air behind the entrance to the building. (shown in the first comment below).
The "river" is a remarkable mosaic of glass.

One of the brightest, boldest rainbows I've seen welcomed me as I approached a region of Glacier Park long known for it's mystical and spiritual aura. Named Two Medicine by the Blackfeet peoples who have for centuries sent their young warriers here on vision quests and spiritual seeking.
I too feel that pull and need to return here for rejuvenation, rejoicing and relaxation. Never fails to set my soul singing and reboot my spirit.

A view of the Plešivica hill and before that the old town of Okić and the picturesque village of Molvice in the valley. Samoborsko gorje and Plešivica are quite populated, but mountaineers and nature lovers adore them and love to come and walk on these green hills. Thanks to the proximity of Zagreb, there can be a lot of people on those hills on weekends.

Riverside of the Nigorizawa that flows into Takase Reservoir.
It is like Sai-no Kawara (賽の河原), which means the riverside between this world and the next, where the souls of children who died prior to their parents are believed to stay. They are forced to build stone cairns that are to be broken down by resident ogres when they are completed. They start over to build new ones to be broken down again. The process continues forever…. It is a Japanese version of limbo.
Here in Nigorizawa, a huge volume of white granite sand carried by the stream forms a large expanse of sandy plain. TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings) wrongly forecasted the volume of incoming sedimentation, and it turned out after the completion of the dam that it would fill the reservoir in decades (^_^;
Now a troop of dump trucks are carrying out the sand every day. They must continue forever like the souls of deceased children in Sai-no Kawara. It is also challenging the financial sustainabilty of the hydropower plant.
I heard the sand from Takase Dam is not suitable for construction material due to light specific gravity. Only possible use is for creating artificial beaches.
The Takase-gawa is a tributary of the Shinano-gawa that flows into the Sea of Japan at Niigata City located 250 km to the northeast. The Japan Sea coast in Niigata prefecture is now suffering from coastal erosion. Many good beaches disappeared over the past decades. It was caused by the construction of dams in its upstream.

The end of a scorching summer’s day is marked by the sun slowly sinking below the horizon at Lhen Beach on the north west coast of the Isle of Man. I positioned my tripod just above the surface of the Lhen Trench as it flowed down to meet the sea. The low angle allowed the water to dominate the foreground of the shot which was necessary due to the cloudless sky above. I wanted to capture a simple minimalistic image which captured the warmth of the beautiful summer weather we have been enjoying 🌅
