'Kintsukuroi is the general concept of highlighting or emphasizing imperfections, visualizing mends and seams as an additive or an area to celebrate or focus on, rather than absence or missing pieces.'

Nefekalum's fab new materials tattoo, Medusa's Gaze, reminded me a lot of the Japanese art of Kintsuku - especially with the gold in the gaps of the cracks. I added cinphul's carnal headpiece [I turned it upside down for a different look] and completed the entire outfit with various pieces for that otherworldly Mage look. Yes, the diet is going well...

Wanted to share a message from the Director of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology:
"I often talk about the power of birds, but this year they take on an even more powerful meaning. They enliven our days, brighten the trees, serenade in our backyards and city parks, and bestow us with so much joy and hope, all bundled together in feathers and lively personalities."
Working in a hospital is a bit stressful these days, but when I get home the birds take me away from it all.
Let's stay connected, if needed dust off those archives!
"In a blade of grass, in every dew drop, in the mists of the mountains, in the fathomless bottom of the oceans, in the chirp of the birds, in the colours of the sunset, in the laughter of a child you witness the glory of God."

Are written the things
only butterflies know.
Special are the leaves

With the secrets of life

If only we knew
the butterfly's way.
We wouldn't be working
while the butterflies play.

The Valley of the Gods is similar in appearance to the much better known and more touristically developed Monument Valley and has comparable sandstone towers and sea stacks.
According to Navajo mythology, the rock formations are places of strength where ancestral spirits dwell, especially in the Valley of the Gods. The distinctive sandstone towers are petrified warriors of the tribe who can be invoked for personal protection. They represent bodyguards whose power and strength accompanies the young men on their way to war.

A previously unpublished shot from August 2020. I really miss those snippets of conversation. the fragments of other peoples lives, that you could hear as you walked around the city. Something that was actually represented really well in the Grand Theft Auto series of video games! If you could string all of those snippets together I wonder what the resulting chaotic narrative would be. Enjoy!

These babies finally made an appearance. The first signs of spring. Gives me hope, even though there’s still snow in the forecast !!

Picturesque framing of a coastal landscape with
a clear blue sky and calm blue water meeting a sandy and rocky shore. In the foreground, the water shows varying shades of blue, indicating depth changes or underwater features, and there's a visible transition to a clearer, shallower area near the shore. The shoreline itself is a mix of golden sand and scattered rocks.
In the mid ground, a cluster of palm trees lines the beach, suggesting a tropical or sub-tropical environment. Among the trees and slightly set back from the beach, there are some light-colored buildings adding a touch of human presence to the natural scene.
A distinctive feature in the background is a tall, slender minaret with a golden top, indicating the presence of a mosque.
The distant horizon shows a faint outline of land or mountains across the water, adding depth to the serene atmosphere of this popular diving and relaxation destination.
Shot from the coastal town of Dahab, on the southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula. Dahab was originally a Bedouin fishing village and has transformed into a popular tourist destination, particularly known for its relaxed atmosphere

Portrait of Fritz, my ginger cat. A wonderful companion for 13 years. Photographed here with my Canon EOS 60D at Castle Hill, north-western Sydney.
Forbes of Kingennie is a country retreat I spent the weekend at a few weeks ago. It’s a beautiful place where you can hire a lodge or a private cabin, spend an enjoyable day fishing in the well-stocked reserves, golfing on the private course or one of many other fun activities that I didn't get to try because I was daft enough to be getting up long before dawn to take photographs.
Actually the morning sunrise was so stunning that I’m pretty sure I got the better part of the deal and at least I wasn't among those that were so hungover that they could face the sun when eventually they did rise.
The shot is centred on the main building of the complex with rental lodges and holiday homes either side. Taken at approximately 5 minutes after the sun broke the horizon it was captured in a single frame taken over 15 seconds with an ND filter to help smooth what little movement there was in the water.
A splash of color in the mostly drab plumage of the spring avifaunae (particularly the icterids/ blackbirds), a male Bullock’s Oriole brightens up the season around Boulder. After spending its winter in the warmer climes of southern Mexico, the orioles return to the western U.S. to breed in the summer. They are one of only a few bird species in temperate North America that construct hanging nests from tree branches to discourage nest predators.
In March of 2018, I was returning from one of my solo trips to Canada and decided to take an extra travel day, stopping at the Sacramento and Colusa NWRs. The first afternoon, I explored Sacramento NWR until sundown and was enchanted; the following morning, in the freezing, pitch black before dawn and breakfast, I was out of my motel and at Colusa.
Surrounded by thousands of Snow Geese rising up from the dark pond where they had spent the night, heading into the sunrise, I started to plan my next visit.
Up until this moment, I had thought the distance from home to these NWRs too far to do in a single day making the logistics concerning our dogs too complicated (at the time, there were no nearby, dog-friendly hotels). It wasn't until October that I was able to return with my husband... and the pups, of course. Since then, we have made the 5-hour, round trip many times over. The drive is nothing when rewarded by this kind of magic.
We consider ourselves lucky to have these parks so close.
Antietam National Battlefield Park, Maryland.
This lovely Maryland countryside is quiet today, simple farmland near the small city of Sharpsburg. Gentle rolling hills, clusters of vibrant trees and fields of corn adorn the area to make for a generally beautiful landscape.
But on September 17th, 1862, this ground endured the single bloodiest day in United States military history, the Battle of Antietam, named after the creek that defined much of the battlefield. This tragic battle during the American Civil War cost a combined total of 22,717 dead, wounded, or missing, and their loss echoes here today in monuments, legacy fences, and key historic locations as part of the Antietam National Battlefield Park. The Park is well worth visiting and surprisingly beautiful, an interesting contrast to the battle that took place there.

On the higher mountains the first snow has fallen, but here around this meander of river the last colors of autumn are resisting. I think it deserved a photo.
Sulle montagne più alte è caduta la prima neve, ma intorno a questo meandro del fiume resistono le ultime cromie autunnali; credo meritassero una foto.

The unmistakable outline of a bird of prey hovering overhead searching for its next meal. This was a whistling kite alongside the banks of the Murray River at Mannum in South Australia.
Original was an almost black and white silhouette shot but after lots of sliding, it became a low key negative of the original.

In Poland, Fat Thursday is called tłusty czwartek. People purchase their favorite pastries from their local bakeries. Traditional foods include pączki (doughnuts), which are large deep-fried pieces of especially rich dough, traditionally filled with plum or rose petal jam (though others are commonly used) and topped with powdered sugar, icing, or glaze.] Angel wings (faworki) are also commonly consumed on this day.

One of the staple traditions in our household around Easter is having some yellow Forsythia decorating our home. Took advantage of having the yellow blooming flowers close at hand to capture this macro image which was backlit by natural sunlight shining in through our patio doors.
Thanks for viewing and have a great day!
