I may start collecting numbers

This lone Bewick's Swan has been at Martin Mere the last week. Numbers wintering in Britain have dropped significantly because more and more are wintering in Holland, Belgium and other nearby countries. This was a real treat to see. They are smaller than Whooper Swans and the differences in the bill pattern can be seen. The bird in the left hand bottom corner is a Whooper and its bill pattern differs a lot from the Bewick's Swan to the right..

Adults are white all over and young birds greyish with a pinkish bill. Compared to the similar whooper swan, these swans have proportionally more black and less yellow on their bill. They're also smaller than both mute and whooper swans and have faster wingbeats.

Yala national park.... Sri Lanka

So it is December, and officially 25 days till the celebration of the birth of our lord. I know our culture today pushes material goods a lot during this time of year, but even at my young age, I've come to realize that the fellowship with other people has come to mean so much more to me. I hope everyone enjoys this Holiday season, and be sure to Check back each day for the next Countdown 25.

In addition to the photos I've teamed up with the film group LAP (lost armadillo productions) and each week I will post a new video as well done in tandem with them.

Although it's not really very impressive, I made both numbers by hand. I'm sure I could have bought some... but I wanted to put my heart and soul into it.

A few more photos taken on my drive three days ago.

On 16 July 2021, I headed out W and SW of the city. My plan was to then cut eastwards and call in at the Saskatoon Farm. On two previous occasions, I had had a similar plan and both times I had to give up. This time, I thought I had prepared a route carefully, yet I still got lost. As always, road names and numbers differ, depending on which map one looks at. In the end, I drove back north to Calgary and immediately drove back south on the highway to reach the Saskatoon Farm.

Despite the smoke from wildfires, which blocked out the mountains and almost caused the Foothills to completely disappear from sight, I had an amazing day. Much needed and greatly appreciated and enjoyed.

One of the highlights of the day was to see and photograph a pair of Common Loons. They were the far side of a huge lake and stayed there the whole time I was there. Luckily, I did manage to get a handful of shots that are reasonable. Loons are such magnificent birds, with their striking feather patterns. I believe the last Loon I saw in Alberta was on 12 June 2018, in Waterton Lakes National Park. The adult Common Loon can range from 66 to 91 cm (26 to 36 in) in length with a 127 to 147 cm (4 ft 2 in to 4 ft 10 in) wingspan.

Feeling so thrilled to have seen the Loons, I couldn't believe my luck when I came upon a cattle drive. Another highlight of my day.

Continuing my drive, I stopped to quickly check out another pond. Nothing on the water, but two beautiful Cedar Waxwings kept flying to a dead tree that was near where I was sitting in my car. I'm not sure, but I think one was an adult and the other possibly a juvenile.

Further on my drive, I realized I just couldn't find my way east to the highway, so I returned to the city and then headed for the Saskatoon Farm, where I was able to enjoy their famous Quiche and take a few colourful flower shots. Such a great day for me, and such a great contrast to the absolute nightmare and loss that so many people are suffering in various places around the world, from devastating wildfires to very destructive floods in Europe. I know when I am lucky.

Used the CPL filter to take off the water glare in the midday light to help bring out nice details there under the water.

The Audi Sport Quattro S1 was a Quattro programme car developed for homologation for Group B rallying in 1984, and sold as a production car in limited numbers.[1] It featured an all aluminium alloy 2,133 cc (130.2 cu in) (2.1 L) 20v DOHC engine slightly smaller than that of the Audi Quattro (in order to qualify for the 3-litre engine class after the scale factor applied to turbo engines). In road-going form, the engine was capable of producing 225 kW (306 PS; 302 bhp),[1] with the competition cars initially producing around 331 kW (450 PS; 444 bhp).[1]

The vehicle also featured a body shell composed of carbon-kevlar[1] and boasting wider arches, wider wheels (nine inches as compared to the Ur-Quattro's optional 8-inch-wide (200 mm) wheel rim), the steeper windscreen rake of the Audi 80 (requested by the Audi Sport rally team drivers to reduce internal reflections from the dashboard for improved visibility) and, most noticeably, a 320 mm (12.6 in) shorter wheelbase.

In addition to Group B competition in rallying, the Sport Quattro won the 1985 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Michèle Mouton in the driving seat, setting a record time in the process.[21] 224 cars of this "short version" Sport Quattro were built, and were offered for sale for 203,850 German Marks.[1]

Week #31 - Numbers

I never forgot 'The Numbers Project', it's just that lack of job, then job, then pandemic took priority. Next stop - no fuel to go number hunting...

Jordgubbar från Bohuslän, ett måste till midsommar.

Today, we celebrate Midsummer in Sweden

In Sweden midsummer day, weekend day, since 1953 a movable holiday and falls on Saturday between 20 and 26 June.

Midsummer is perhaps the most important festival in Sweden, at the side of the Christmas. Midsummer, and midsummer pole, goes back to a very old celebration of the summer and vegetation. But midsummer also meant a break point in the working year of peasant society. The day was originally celebrated to honor Saint John the Baptist, a relationship that has become increasingly distant. Midsummer night was considered full of magical powers and supernatural beings.

The food midsummer: Herring, potatoes and strawberries :)

Herring is still evident at this season, even if it now gets the competitive position of the grill. The tradition of herring and potatoes grew during the 1900s and at midsummer keeps matjessillen its position. Some brands of pickled herring has half of its annual sales to midsummer. When looking at the herring and Midsummer get 219 000 hits. Salmon and midsummer, the entire 309,000 hits.

The strawberries keep their position. When they came to Sweden in the late 1700s called the pineapple strawberry because of its Latin name ananassa. Up to a million liters of strawberries delivered to the stores before midsummer two years ago. Some more recent figures are not of Swedish trade, but the numbers are fairly stable they

Just four numbers lower at PC 18474 and I would have found the caboose, or "cabin car" that I practically grew up in. PC Model N-11 18478 is on display in downtown Union City, Indiana along CSX's ex-Big 4 (CCC&StL)/NYC/PC/CR Indianapolis Line Sub. This cabin car was never red while in service though, and wore PC green when built by PC in their ex-NYC Despatch Shops, then later Conrail blue.
