Hot Numbers, Kingston Street, Cambridge, 22 Oct 2020
When I photographed this in early 2016 is was a faded ghost sign.
Nice to see it restored.
There seem to be numbers all over the place as 66503 passes Stafford with a Felixstowe to Ditton freightliner service.
Despite - or perhaps because - of operating one of the largest fleets of Scania-MCW Metropolitans in the company, Tyne & Wear PTE didn’t take to its successor the MCW Metrobus. It ordered just five examples for evaluation in 1979 (fleet numbers 415-9) and sold them to London Buses in 1988 (fleet numbers M1481-5). 419 (M1485) was destroyed by fire while working out of Potters Bar garage. The remaining four saw further use as sightseeing buses with various operators (08-Apr-23).

This was the best location to signal back and forth with inmates of Alcatraz. Lenny "Long Shot" Gabortz kept his numbers racket thriving by using one of his guys on the outside. The actual mode of signaling was never discovered.

This change we are going through happens about every 20.000 years ( approximately ) The Maya knew, They had five baktuns, in their calendar, the fifth was the world ending one. I think I am begaining to understand what they were getting at.
i think the goldfinches I see at the feeder are here because the milder weather we have had tricked them into staying longer than they shoud have and now they are caught. Some winter over but most migrate to the southern states and Mexico. Of those who stay only the strongest survive.
So far I have noticed more birds, Like redwing black birds, around in larger numbers, than in previous years. it's january and I have seen a few so far a long the lake and river areas in the low bushes and reeds. I don't think the cold is as much of a problem as finding food. Our winters haven't been as sevear as in the past and the rivers ( because of flowing water ) have not frozen over yet.
But heres the kicker. We are now due to go through a period of very cold weather, ( possibly getting into single digits at night ) It's these constant shifts between mild and sevear cold that will affect those who stayed.
It's possible that these shifts we are experiencing now will lessen as we progress into what ever is going to happen. ( the experts say that eventually we will have a climate more akin to what is found in northern Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, ETC. ).
That is going to change the nature of the kind of crops and plants that can ge grown around here. The nature of the kind of domestic and wild plants (That like cooler temps and provide food for both animals and people ) is going to have to shift northward. Most of the food grains fall into this category. Wheat, barley, oats, staples in our diet wouldn't thrive. Neither would a lot of the other grasses and food crops now grown in the northern tier of the U.S. ( and many other countries )
This is definately a cyclical thing. The proof is in the Sahara desert.. It turns into a forest and grassland about every 20,000 years or so. You can find the fossil forest layers buried under the sand.
Take all these colective changes world wide and you've got a real problem. If you had a rustic culture like the Maya and many other native peoples ( they sitll had to rely on basic agriculture and hunting too survive ) this change poses a real threat to their survival. ( I don't recall anything in history about their driving around on a John Deer ) Truth is that they would have to follow the game or move to area where they could grow their traditional crops.
This has been going on for countless milennia. The earth waxes and wanes, good times and bad, They are all connected to cycles and events which happen too our planet. Many are random, they don't occur at a regular time such as the small perturbations in the larger perturbation the earth makes on it's axis. It's wobbles with in a wobble. got nothing to do with cow farts. Thats just a ploy. They want us to go green because they hold all patents to the stuff we have to buy to achive their green goul. It's about power an wealth for the ruling politicians and their cronnies.
Today the We're Here! gang is visiting Beautiful Numbers. This is part of my license plate. I had the choice of a few numbers when I got the plates, but chose this one because 312 was my home room number in high school. All our license plates say "Beautiful British Columbia".
Look at how dirty it is! lol I should have washed it first...
The license was my second choice -- I was going to take a shot of the 22nd St. sign...but in my neighbourhood, the signs stop at 21st because there's a big wild park where 22nd should be.
SO...I thought well, I have 312 on the Jeep, and it's a nice number...and didn't clue in to the fact that "Beautiful" would be in the shot until I took it. Haa ha ha ha...! I fell ass-backwards into the perfect shot for "Beautiful Numbers". ;)

Shot with a Beroflex 400mm f 6.3 prime on a Pentax K3 with some additional footage from a Mokomura 400mm f6.3. The Beroflex is from around 1980 has 13 blades. The chromatic aberration has been kept, which for the Beroflex equated to a tight crimson line, and for the Mokomura a softer blue green line. The lens are both Japanese. The Mokomura has 18 or so aperture blades and produced interesting bokeh at all apertures. The 'Mo' is added and it is from the Komura name which is well respected. I've a 'new' copy of the Beroflex, and when contrasted with the Mokomura or, for example a Tiar 3 or a long Takumar, it comes across more like a hoover tube than a solid lens, and has a 'give' to the structure that is as unsettling as a rusty boat before a storm. It's not as well balanced as the Tair on the tripod but is fast to focus and the results are not without charm. The Mokomura needs a heavy tripod to remain in balance with the 1,200 gram lens attached to the mid point of the lens. Manual focus lenses can be a real pain if you shoot birds, and by the time a Tair 3 or Mokomura 400mm is focused, the bird is probably dead - with the Beroflex you have a real chance of capturing a little blur. Despite all of the 'flex', the Beroflex had few flair issues and came up with some really nice bokeh with a smallest aperture of f32. The Mokomura is a time consuming lens to work with but a poetic gift for bokeh lovers. The Pentax K3 captor had problems keeping up with the light and there are issues of noise - but I did shoot with normal settings rather than easing the load by turning saturation and co' down. The music is a segment from the 1974 recording of 'Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ'. There are a number of great versions of this work, but I opted for one close to its date of origin. As always Photoshop but no rendering.

Press the 'Go' and then type 'L' to enlarge. It loops. Press the 'Escape' key to return. The "L" stands for 'lightbox" for anyone who has one in a back room. If you want to remove the toolbar then press f11. Escape gets you back, but you still need to press f11 another time to get your menu back - otherwise a fuddle can start...
