This one is for Harlan. I wish I'd have been able to line it up a little better and stand back some, but there were just too many photographers around the sweet spot! Even standing here, this one guy in front of me here kept swinging his head back and forth trying to get an angle for his own photo. I just kept pressing the shutter hoping to catch one without the blur of his head in my frame. 15 tries, and here it is!

I edited this picture fo make it look more like the one I'd hoped to shoot, and posted the result here.

Snaefell Mountain Railway Car number 1 climbs toward Bungalow

Built in 1895 as the first of a batch of 6 cars, Car No.1 arrived in the Spring of that year. Power for the Car was by Bow Collectors with Mather and Platt electrical equipment, trucks and controllers, and Braking using the Fell Rail system. As new, the cars were delivered without glazed windows and clerestories. Both were fitted in Spring 1896 (following complaints of wind, as the original canvas roller blinds did not offer much protection), and in 1897 (after the window fitment, they became too warm in the summer!). In the 1900s the cars were fitted with distinctive roof advertising boards, which were used to promote the trip to the summit.

The Summit-end Control equipment was changed in 1903/04 from the original Mather and Platt example to use a General Electric K11 Controller, and later a K12 Controller in 1954. The original Laxey-end Controller remained in use, as it was only ever used for short amounts of time (shunting and starting the car down the gradient). After the disastrous fire to Car No.5 in August 1970, all of the distinctive roof-boards from the cars were removed, as it was believed that they may have acted as a ‘sail’ in the high winds that rocked the car and allowed the fire to spread.

In 1976 the original Mather and Platt traction motors of the Snaefell cars were becoming worn out, and the decision was made to re-quip the entire 6 car-fleet as a whole with materials and control equipment from German Aachen Tramcars. No.1 had it’s original trucks sent to London Transport at Acton, London for use as a template during Winter 1976 (new fabrications of the originals constructed on site, and fitted with the ex-Aachen motors), being re-equipped at the Snaefell Car Sheds with the brand new trucks during June 1977. Trials were held on the mountain during the 1977 Summer, with No.1 reportedly ascending from the Bungalow to the Summit in 8 minutes! These tests lead to the decision to equip the rest of the fleet. These improvements allowed for the fell-braking method to be phased out completely by the newly fitted rheostatic method, with the fell brake now only used in emergencies.

During Autumn 2010, Car No.1 was withdrawn for a full bodywork and equipment overhaul at the Laxey Snaefell Car Shed, which was completed in January 2013, the car repainted into it’s original livery of Blue and White, with the original ‘Snaefell Mountain Tramway’ lettering. It returned to traffic at the start of the 2013 season in May, and remains in service.

This is her wrist tag. It's similar to the vintage ones, but it has the "previous current Barbie logo" (the one they were using before they changed back to the original vintage logo). It's supposed to be printed on silver foil paper, but I didn't have any so I faked it.

[BTW, I mispelled "Genuine" that way on purpose. O:) ]

PLEASE NOTE: This is a one-of-a-kind doll made by me. I have absolutely nothing to do with Mattel, and neither does this doll (other than the fact that the base parts were manufactured by them). It does not in any way reflect the views or opinions of Mattel, and is not intended to damage the reputation of the Barbie trademark. It was made for fun as a hobby.

Chrysler VC Valiant sedan fitted with NSW number plate #1. Taken by my father in High Street Penrith around 1970. He saw the car with New South Wales number plate #1 and followed it for a long time, until it stopped here, just to take a photo. The plate was originally issued to the Minister for Transport when number plates were first issued in NSW around 1910. Apparently it remains in his family today. The car Dad was driving is a Ford XT Falcon.

spent the memorial day weekend at a friend´s home in upstate NY and this cute little fellow, seen here, is his public enemy number1. Our friend really enjoys bird watching and has several bird feeders filled with different types of feed for the many varieties of birds that are indigenous to the area. He has tried just about everything to keep this little guy away, by installing pressure sensitive feeders that will spin with the slightest weight to greasing the poles from which they hang; yet this fellow always finds a way to outsmart him and get to the feed.

I fear for his life and hate to imagine just what measures our friend might one day resort to if his buttons are pushed too far

No matter how different a shopping mall can be (there's a theory that they really are all the same!) there's always one thing you'll find in all of them, anywhere in the world. Escalators!

This is at Orchard Central, looking down from the 2nd floor and unlike most malls, there's a huge metal number to remind travelers which floor they're on.

This is the 9th picture in a row I've uploaded that isn't super shallow Depth of Field; even though the 50mm Summilux-M lens hugely capable of it, I've been shooting stopped down to improve my composition and not rely on the eye-catching bokeh 'pop' of f/1.4!

Here was the clothing store "Place 1 .... at the Hollywood" which is a truly awful name for a business, one of the worst business names ever, and it's no surprise that it failed.

"Norton's" reads the other sign. Did the government of Wilkes-Barre intentionally block the public's view of its sign with a tree as part of an ongoing campaign of harrassment against poor Norton's? You tell me!

The building is from circa 1890 and formerly sported a comical "Rite Aid Discount Center" storefront.

Elizabeth Taylor when we dropped her off at the airport.

She was shoving her foam finger in that girl's face but we distracted her with the Polaroid.

[I wish that story were true. But also happy that she would never do that to a stranger. No matter how bad she wanted to.]

[I so want to do that, which is what I'm trying to say.]

I saw this on Alfreton bus station, at 07:00am on 06-04-12, FX12 BSU, no fleet numbers have yet been applied, an Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Dart, I only had my phone with me as I was at work, but I couldn't resist a photo, the Mansfield depot apparently have between 12 to 14 of these new buses, I've seen a few of them,
