Note: but our '3-course' lunch was not yet over. After ordering a single macchiato to finish the meal off once and for good, we were presented with an array of immaculate petit fours. First, I tried the brown and orange duo which were presented on individual ceramic cubes (each one is slightly different in color/design). The small orange box was a passion fruit and ginger marsmallow with a light crust which was tasty, but more interesting was the cep dark chcolate truffle, topped off with a fleck of Maldon salt. I joked that they should make a 'truffle' truffle (i.e. truffle mushrooms in a chocolate truffle), but I guess that might be too obvious for the obviously clever kitchen. Anyway, the truffle worked well as you tasted the flavor of the cep mushrooms, but not so much that it spoke louder than the chocolate itself. All in all, a delightful pair,

I am currently reading Alain de Botton's The Consolations of Philosophy, and it is amazing. Been musing about the same ideas for quite some time now and I just feel so glad to have my thoughts reaffirmed. You know, the feeling that you're not alone in this, even if you live inside your head most of the time.

February 22, 2013, Christchurch NZ I took a walk around the city today as it is two years ago that the devastating earthquake ruined the city and killed 185 people. Poeple were aksed to leave messages at the Gap Filler in the Pallet Pavilion.

Posting at the Redrock Falls trailhead. Over the next two days our hikes would become less congested with human traffic and our canisters of bear spray became an increasing comfort.

Note although on the Colorado river, the bend is circa 70 miles upriver from the Grand Canyon near Page.

Endcliffe Park, Sheffield. This was the scene in the park today. The results of a recent history lesson some local school kids had in the park. On 22 February 1944 Flying Fortress 'Mi Amigo' crashed in this wooded area and all 10 men onboard the plane lost their lives.
