the hills are yellow with mustard grass. it's a reassuring sign that spring has arrived. it's a late start this year and the plants are shorter than usual. but given the drought it's actually amazing we get bloom at all. these plants are quite weedy in appearance, not something you want in your garden. but they do make spectacular stands in the wild with their abundant flowers. these flowers are quite delicate and ephemeral. a light breezy can send petals falling like a million tiny yellow sticky notes. kinda reminds me all those 'important' things we put down on sticky notes, in the end, they seldom matter

This same chassis was used for the 1954 models but with a different decorative front. The decorative front on the 1954 models was very similar to the front on the 1955 models. On this chassis note the use of two fan motors and double evaporator blowers.

Musical notes: Scattered around the market are 18 musical notes painted on walkways, where registered musicians and performers entertain. They stay for an hour at one spot, then move, so you never know where they will be. The chance to perform for a street crowd so appealed to Hilary Hahn, a virtuoso violinist in town to play with the Seattle Symphony, that she got a permit to perform at the market.

It's not always music. I watched a card sharp perform tricks by identifying cards. Since he was selling decks of cards that made his tricks possible, he revealed his secret. One side of the cards was shaved slightly narrower than the other side. When he wanted to find the four aces, all he had to do was insert them in the deck in the opposite direction of the other cards. Their width gave them away.

NOTES is a series I started in 1968. NOTE TO ERIK was the second one completed but the footage goes back to 1966. When I saw the footage I loved it, but didn't feel ready to deal with it. Seeing Sharon Moss again, who had moved to NYC from Storrs, CT inspired me to return to this footage to make a note to a mutual friend ERIK KIVIAT. It took about 2 years for me to feel I could respond to the generosity of her performance and the images I had gathered and shaped in my camera. Sharon Moss and her cats play and dance naked in the snow.

One hundred dollar bill. It was shot with a bellows extension and lit with a Nikon Speedlight from off camera and triggered via a Pocket Wizard.

One of the games we started at the Wynn was to leave notes for each other in the elevator bank. This is just one of many, and I swear some people took them because they thought they were funny. This was inspired by a private joke and meeting Nick Manning.

Nomads (pastoralists) usually follow the herds of animals they care for and eat. They need to have dogs, weapons and not much else; most of their lives revolve around having pastures and water for their lifestyle.
