This tiny bud came from a miniature rose plant I bought at the supermarket in the village because I love the colour. The notebook, or aide-mémoire, is French and dates back to the 1910s. It's made of brass and is silver-plated. The lace is from the 1930s. I seem to have stalled for the moment in vintage mode. Perhaps it's because I've just hit a big birthday. :)

I used a cash machine & was surprised to get the first new note I had seen. The notes showing the Queen are still in regular use & the new notes are only being issued when they are needed.

It's hard to believe that today's two images were shot on the same day and within about two miles and ten minutes of each other. This is also at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast but looking out into Moreton Bay from Bulcock Beach. All of the sand in the image joins the mainland to what was once the northern part of Bribie Island but until about 30 years ago the Pumicestone Passage which separated the island from the mainland flowed swiftly through here. Then things began to change and over many of those subsequent years sand was washed in and across what was the bar, through which prawn trawlers once entered the small port of Caloundra. Eventually, in more recent times, the sand built up even more and closed it off completely.
To balance that, in time, the relentless ocean began to create an opening into the same passage a little way south through a narrow strip in Bribie Island, opening up the Caloundra suburb of Golden Beach to the ocean. That gap eventually grew larger and larger threatening the beach with the full force of the ocean, in particular during inclement weather. Eventually the Queensland Government had to step in and stabilise the erosion and the island creating quite a wide but somewhat fortified new bar and seemingly permanently joining North Bribie to the mainland as seen in the image. Will it change again one day, quite possibly!
Ocean going ships to and from the Pacific Ocean to the Port of Brisbane pass down the shipping channel which at this point passes quite close to the beach before heading way over the far side of Moreton Bay all the way until they are opposite the Port at the mouth of the Brisbane River at which point they make a hard turn to the west and head straight into the wharves.
Back in the 1981, the Anro Asia (see below) container ship ran aground just along this stretch of coast and created quite a sight until it was eventually pulled off and made its merry way for assessment and further work!
