Well, if that wasn't fun, I don't know what would be.
I bought a leather notebook cover that was just gorgeous. GORGEOUS. I wanted more. So many more! Well, at least one more. I decided to try my hand at making them and it turns out I did an okay job. Mine aren't anywhere near as sturdy as the original, but making them was super fun and they're sturdy enough.
I had a hard time finding thick leather in awesome colors. The brown one is made from some leather I already had, and it's the sturdiest. It did, however, give my corner punch (the blue thing at left) a run for its money. The other leathers are from this etsy shop. So much prettiness! The best stuff is the teal/blue pull up leather. The metallic stuff is okay, too. Suede didn't work at all, no matter how thick (way too floppy).
These are made to hold up to 4 notebooks, the larger hold Field Notes and the smaller the wee Rhodias.

Another selection from this month's trip to Iowa: notebooks filled by the Titian Sleuth. I love that quote in the middle. She writes in these journals and then completes them by writing a saying on the cover after they're filled. The quote on the blue one comes from Wendell Berry's beautiful poem.

I'm glad Midori responded very fast by accepting my suggestion to make Traveler's notebook more usable. The original open pockets can't store much. Now they plan to make a pocket with zipper than can store receipts and passport in a quite safe way. The plastic pocket can be inserted in the elastic band that holds the paper notebook

Dimensions (10.5 cm. x 14 cm.) are arranged as much as possible large for offering more space to the writers in their daily use. Comfortable size to hold in the hand and keeping small place in the bag. Edge coloring as shown on the image is optional.

I made both these in the bookbinding class I took. Reversible robot-printed paper -- looked like scrapbooking paper. The one with the red exterior has an inner knot to the binding and the other one has an out knot.
This is my stack of notebooks, most of which are Moleskine notebooks. I have written in less than a third of them, but I feel I should stock up for when I can take my trip to Polynesia or the Australian outback.

A bit stumped for a shot today - 'twas pretty much a run of the mill day at work, but at least when I snuck out for lunch, I managed to remember my notebook..
Sure, it's not as awesome as a Moleskine, but heck, my handwriting is terrible as it (so I need the writing space). I generally leave it floating around in my backpack, and normally pull it out to sketch down ideas for projects I want to work on (well, at least when I finish the current one, and have more time for it).
My Moleskin hack entry hides the fact that you are a tourist and can only be used on a soft cover notebook. When you fold the notebook length-wise (when the spine practically touches the long edge of the back cover), the fore-edge of the pages fan out. Only when the notebook is folded this way, does a subway map clearly appear. This is due to the fact that the map is printed on the edge while the notebook is positioned like this. You can hide the fact that you are consulting a subway map and be spared the embarrassment and scorn from locals.
