For Thursday monochrome and Monochrome Bokeh Thursday

Have a great day and thank you for visiting!

HMBT!

Notebook in vivid colours and a parrot feather which a friend brought back from a holiday long ago. I thought the two go together for obvious reasons

Not only are the covers pretty on these pocket notebooks, but they are also waxed. They’ll get a nice aged look the longer they’re used and I’m looking forward to it!

Notebooks from Yamamoto Paper, bandana from Noteworthy Paper & Press.

Una libretina siempre a mano

Focus on what matters and let go of what doesn't ...

Can you still hear the screaming of the lambs Clarice?

Can you still hear them in the night?

Does the screaming still break your heart Clarice

When the hope of any mercy takes flight?

You knew I would visit you again

You knew I would come and call

Shall we have lamb cutlets to celebrate my love

We will keep them tender and slightly bloody

We mustn’t let the meat spoil

Served with a side dish of remembrance perhaps

The closest I can get to fondness

You know I do not acknowledge regret my dear

Such weakness is akin to ruining the sauce

Not something I would allow as a rule

But then you never took me for a fool

Bon Appétit my love

Let’s enjoy the food

Inspiration can strike at the most odd times, and I have learnt not to ignore it, which is why I take a notebook with me everywhere I go.

On a drive round for a small diversion after supermarket shopping before I went home to pack it all away, I was aware of a voice in my head saying the opening lines to this poem as I went past a field on the Sussex Downs and I saw new born lambs that were staying close to their mothers.

The voice in my head was of Anthony Hopkins, who acted the part of his unforgettable Hannibal Lecter, in the film, “The Silence of The Lambs” and this was his characters voice saying it.

I could hear it, clear as anything, and some evil part of me grinned.

I pulled over into a lay-by, and pulled out my notebook and jotted those first four lines down.

The rest came later, when I sat down and let it flow over me.

I did not have any recent images of lambs. So I decided I just had to do this poem, and for that, lambs were needed!

It took me four attempts to get it, and on the fourth, I was lucky, although I did use my zoom lens so as not to spook them too much. Better still, one of them called for his mother…

So this a homage to the wonderful book “The Silence of The Lambs” by Thomas Harris, and the unforgettable film starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, as Agent Starling.

To complete this piece, I decided to read out my poem, and if I can get the video to load, the link will be here in a minute...

effects of caffeine on my brain, explained visually.

Caffeine is a bitter, white crystalline xanthine alkaloid that is a psychoactive stimulant drug.

Four times a year, at the end of each quarter, the notebooks are collected and graded. Of course I want to see everthing --- class notes, vocabulary sheets, cultural info, verb info, tape recorded practice sheets --- everthing completed and in the specified order. Now is that asking too much?

It takes a while to grade the notebooks, but it is worth the time and effort, and I feel good knowing that, when the students leave me, they have a great "resource of information" to use in future Spanish classes.

Strobist info:

The scene was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights positioned 45° CL and 90° CR, one-foot above and two-feet away from the subject. The speedlights were fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄32 power through Neewer 24" x 24" soft boxes.

The SB900s were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X triggers.

A Simple Pleasure of mine. A good fountain pen, and a notebook.

I used to collect quotes and sayings - bits of philosophy - and illustrations too. This notebook is full of Zen and Taoist sayings. It made a small book I could carry with me when I travelled, and could add to. I used to have several, but most have been lost over the years. This one is still with me ;o)

A travelers's notebook I made using veg tanned leather (a meaningful process for me) which has become my companion...doodling is one thing I sometimes do in order to cope and survive. I love how the leather cover for my small sketchbooks takes on unique character as I use it.

Há umas semanas atrás um novo amigo deu-me a conhecer um projecto que iniciou na área da fotografia, convidando-me a participar com o meu trabalho www.blurb.es/user/RSEditions

Surpreenderam-me duas coisas:

- o convite feito a partir de Portugal, onde as elites continuam a funcionar como um forte entrave á divulgação de novos fotógrafos, sejam estes profissionais ou amadores.

O meu trabalho inscreve-se nos segundos e para que conste, é algo que faço apenas pela paixão de quem gosta de vaguear em busca de novas linguagens em torno do meu quotidiano;

A few weeks ago, a new friend introduced me to a project he had started in the field of photography, inviting me to participate with my work - www.blurb.es/user/RSEditions

I was surprised with two things:

- the invitation coming from Portugal, where the elites still being a strong obstacle to the dissemination of new photographers, whether those are professionals or amateurs. My work is inscribed in the seconds and for the record, it is something I do only for the passion of those who like to wonder in search of new languages around my daily life;

- the fact that someone recognized some quality in what I do and therefore thinks it deserves to be part of a book collection with different authors whose quality of work did not leave me indifferent and whom I congratulate since now, inviting all those who are reading me , to explore and taste. For you, Paulo, my special thanks and congratulations. Go Ahead. The courage to start these types of projects is not for everyone, only for those who continue to have a romantic view of life that is often the one that saves us from the multiple routines that lives us many times, near the abyss.

I also invite all of you to take a look at my book, whose name is " To Start a Head " that I share here with great pleasure with friends of every day, hoping that you enjoy it and who knows, maybe buy it or buy any other published author.
