I write. I read and I write. These are my favourite things. Add to that words and colour. In case of fire I'd take my journals - they are full of all my thoughts and poems and tales of my travels. I bought these books all over the world - as I travelled and ran out of pages, I'd buy what I found first - so there are notebooks and excercise books from England, Italy, India, ones that came free with magazines and others that came to me as gifts (usually from my mum)
doodle.
Every idea that I have always gets written down either in a notebook or post-it. I would be lost with out them. Even when I have to write reports in school, I always hand write it first. A little strange but its what I do. I have the weirdest ideas right before I go to bed, so I keep a notebook there too.

From a site of two derelict buildings in the dOKUMENTA city of Kassel that over 40 years ago housed BIER GROSSHANDLUNG NEUENHAGEN, a wholesale German beer distribution company.
A dear flickr contact who runs a construction company in the process of clearing out and renovating this site generously provided me access to photograph on August 16, 2012.
"Last Orders" is what pub owners call out to their customers, a few minutes before closing time.

Fungus Workshop Leather Craft
I learned leather craft from a few books but I felt kind of lonely just doing things I like all by myself. Thanks to Bubi Au Yeung, a figurine artist, who told me about Fungus Workshop, so I signed up for a beginner's class, two lessons passed and I got to know stuffs I didn't learn from books, plus knowing these passionate people who enjoy life and craft genuinely, which is kind of rare in a city like Hong Kong.
Each classmate choose what he/she would like to do from a bunch of samples. I chose to do something in the line of stationery (later I will do a camera/laptop messenger bag). Their template was a notebook cover, but I decided to make it a GTD index card holder. After finishing it, I decided to add a notebook for note taking and an antique key to nostalgize the whole thing.
For all leather projects I did, improvisation in the last minute seems to add beautiful touches to a plain project. As you can see, the enclosure here doesn't wrap the back of the cover to the front, instead it leaves the back wide open so I can dangle the whole notebook or even hook it up to my messenger bag.
Instead of a Moleskine notebook, I put a Rhodia notebook inside just because of its bright orange color, to lighten up a bit. However, I hate the fact that the PU cover of Rhodia discolored after just 6 months from my acquisition of it. In addition, it just doesn't lie flat like a Moleskine does when opened. Anyhow, the discoloration did added the raw and battered look I like.
For those of you who are in Hong Kong and hunger for leather craft, I highly recommend Fungus Workshop. Hoiming and Baldwin, Grace and Philip, all four are friendly souls you can chat with and learn from. I am so happy Hong Kong is catching up with Japan and Taiwan in leather crafting. Keep it up Fungus!

This is the notebook of Officer Anthony Karnowski of the Cleveland police department, given to me for my birthday by my old friend Alan.
I can't find out much about Karnowski (apart from his WW2 records, which say that he was born in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and had had four years of high school education before he enlisted in March, 1943). He died a couple of years ago (his last residence seems to be this house), and someone put this notebook up on eBay, along with his collection of mug shots.

My handmade notebook in my wedgewood design - the way it turned out just reminded me of the classic wedgewood pottery.
Quick snaps of my Moleskine to show a friend (and possibly for an article trying to inspire others to write their thoughts down).
I use mine to collect observations and thoughts on communication and culture, plan social experiments, and even think about the occasional LEGO model. Jimbo started out in this book.
* I made this notebook cover out of cotton fabrics and cardboard. I also used fleece, to pad the outside, embroidery fabric, embroidery thread and a piece of ribbon.
* Ik heb deze notitieblokhouder gemaakt van katoenen stofjes en karton. Daarnaast heb ik fleece gebruikt, als zachte tussenlaag voor de buitenkant, borduurstof, borduurgaren en een stukje lint.
Found two of my husband's grandfather's ledgers in a drawer in the garage. It reminded me so much of the Field Notes notebook, I had to photograph them together. However, Grandpa's "Field Notes" has much more cred containing, as it does, all kinds of planting and farming tables in the back, and tractor info. Mine contains dirty stories and notes on the bathroom tile.
Just thought I'd add more info in light of the additional visitors the past few days: Grandpa was a real farmer right here in Los Angeles before it got so crowded. He immigrated in 1908 from the Basque country on the border between Spain & France. He started with a dairy farm in the neighborhood of El Sereno for about 20 years, then moved to Alhambra (so his four lovely daughters would have easy access to the big city) and ran a hay farm in the nearby neighborhood of Monterey Park. There's no evidence anymore of these farms other than photos, these ledgers, and a few milk bottles and scraps of rather terrifying cattle equipment in the back of our garage.
My husband and I live in the 1936 house in Alhambra that grandpa bought to be closer to the hay farm. A friend of mine lives just down the road in what used to be the middle of the farm. It's so fascinating to me to imagine what Los Angeles used to be like - say when Grandpa arrived from France in 1908, or when his daughters were running around in 1930's LA, making shopping trips, going to movies in the old movie houses, riding the Red Cars, going over the border to Mexico for some partying.
