She's munching on one of my arch-enemies in the yard...a Yellow Jacket!

I spotted these Elderberry flowers below a bridge, but couldn't get close, so I took this shot from above and just cropped really tight. Gotta love a full-frame sensor!

Check out the uncropped shot that this came from below...

Looking for something else, this morning I ran across this shot from 5 years ago and it spoke to me. I'm posting it here so that it doesn't get lost...

Happy New Year, peoples!!!

Yōkai (妖怪; Japanese pronunciation: [joː.kai] are a class of supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore. Yōkai are a vast range of beings, including shapeshifters, ghosts, demons, tricksters and of course japanese pianos.

Capturing (hopefully!) the dance of sunlight and clouds leading to the formation of striking crepuscular rays around sunset time.

Processed in darktable to balance the deep shadows and the pre-sunset glow.

Just because you've never seen tears from the invisible man doesn't mean he doesn't have a sentimental life...

(I wonder how the invisible man manages to put in his contact lenses, but I also wonder how his invisible daughter manages to put on lipstick without getting it accidentally in her nose.

It keeps me awake at night.)

That's all I got. Happy Saturday!

For this picture of a Maroccan mud house, I needed a person dressed in a similar colour. As I couldn't find anything suitable in my extensive archive, I searched the web and found something at the clothing store madekind.de, which kindly gave me permission to publish it.

Have a great Monday, folks!

The disadvantage of a fixed focal length is... sometimes the whole bird doesn't fit in the picture... here I was using the 400mm and 1.4x converter, which is 560mm.

der Nachteil einer Festbrennweite ist .... manchmal passt der ganze Vogel nicht auf das Bild .... hier war ich mit dem 400mm und 1,4fach Konverter unterwegs, was 560mm sind.

A peg trying to hold back the demise of last year's leaf.

But, no, a peg cannot hold back time. Time is a fundamental aspect of the universe, and it is not affected by physical objects like pegs. Pegs are used to hold things together, but they cannot stop or reverse the flow of time.

Turin, Italy. Looking up from a table at the Caffe al Bicerin (founded 1763).

"Une pile de souvenirs,

Ceux qui invitaient à rire,

Des reflets de lune de miel,

Et ceux qui dès le réveil,

Donnent un goût à mon café,

Celui d'un fion torréfié."

"A pile of memories,

Those that made me laugh,

Reflections of my honeymoon,

And those that, as soon as I wake up,

Give my coffee its flavour,

That of roasted arse."

It’s a truly moving (and rather unique) experience to help bring a brave little guitar into the world (without an epidural).

The lines of technology fade while the structures of nature reclaim the space. A silent dialogue between former function and unstoppable decay, condensed within the stark contrast of black and white. No staging, only the immediate recognition of the moment where geometry yields to transience.

Why do we build walls between ourselves? Because of fear maybe?

Can we talk about a border between souls when a wall of fear is built between two people? When this wall prevents us from meeting the other, then the meeting between two souls is impossible, and I find that truly tragic.
