Already Nine months old and hard to pin down to get her month photo!! Most of what i got was her in a blur crawling towards me!! But once her big sister arrived on the scene I was able to get her to sit for a minute ♥

Earlier in the day, I'd been down to Arkwright's Mill in Cromford to look at the exhibition space in the gallery. As I wasn't far away, I decided to take a detour to Robin Hood's Stride and Nine Stones Close. A place I'd wanted to visit for some time. Lots of climbers at the rocks but I had the stone circle all to myself!
Nine days later, autumn colour is showing, but many leaves have fallen from an althea (Rose of Sharon) in the Riverbend neighborhood of New Orleans, on a mostly clear afternoon in mid-December 2011. In the right background, a dogwood (Cornus florida?) that began turning in October and still retains some leaves, as well as a bit of an evergreen Magnolia grandiflora. Behind them is the local "haunted house."
Alas, a few badly timed days of rain limited the color displays in December 2012.

And now the final day.
And day of travelling.
And waiting.
And the question of how to fill the day. I mean, the flight was at eight, so that gave us 10 hours to fill, even if we left the hotel at ten. I believe we had seen most of what Houston had to offer, apart from the endless supply of steak restaurants, of course.
We were awake at six, as usual. But then laid in bed for an hour, just enjoying the peace and not doing anything.
We get up, check the news and after coffee start packing. It all went in there, it'll all go back. We say.
And it does.
At half nine we were done, one last trawl round the room and we leave.
They will debit my credit card they tell me, smiling.
We get the car from the valet. They will also invoice us by mail.
More smiles.
We load the car and decide to go to Walmart from beans.
Beans.
Boston beans.
The sat nav takes us 5 miles to the supercenter.
We wander round, find the beans aisle. No Boston beans, but there were others. We also buy hot sauce. And spices.
On the other side of the car park there was a cafe, so we walk there. Not drive.
Breakfast is proper cooked breakfast.
And pecan pie. I would like to partake in a piece of your pecan pie. I said.
They gave me a piece.
We go to the natural history museum.
I like a good museum. I do. But we are here just to walk through the butterfly house. Because we like butterflies.
We pay for tickets, and go straight for the butterflies. It is magical, as always, to have tropical butterflies and try to feed on your t shirt. Or is it just me?
The museum is also great, but lots of stuffed animals. I means lots. As Jools said, soon this sort of place will be all where you can see tigers and other rare animals.
We look through a display of minerals. Then jewels.
The Faberge collection is stunning. But we are just using up our time.
We get bored, so leave. And take the car on the half hour drive to the airport. It was two in the afternoon.
Jools wanted to look for some books, so we stop off at a barnes and Noble. I buy books. Jools doesn't.
Round the corner is a place to eat. Others have not yet opned or have private parties on. So, we walk the half block to The Backstreet Cafe. Walk, I tell you.
reminded me of that famous painting "the scream" by munch as soon as i saw it. love the waves coming from the mouth!!!

Interesting process, but fairly expensive (my seven rolls of film with a 1600 push cost $118 to process) and it took three weeks to get the film back from the lab.
As a sidenote (which says a lot about any endeavor on the Internet), I shared these photos on the Flickr DR5 group so others who use the process could see what kind of results I got in a high-contrast concert setting. A month or so later I got email from user "SAH Photo" (Stacey Hoffman at www.sahphoto.com/) saying he didn't like the similarity of the content and demanding that I remove most of them from the pool. I looked to see if he was a moderator or group owner and he wasn't, so I replied and told him I didn't see him listed as a moderator. He replied and said, "Don't be a bitch." I removed a few of the photos I had in the group that seemed very similar and then today (July 28, 2009) I received notice that I'd been banned from DR5 and he's now a moderator. Whatever. It has greatly lessened my desire to use the DR5 process. That kind of snarky, cliquishness makes me feel like I'd be better off focusing my efforts on activities where feedback and collaboration are more prevalent. Life's too short to waste time interacting with that kind of people.
I mentioned this altercation to David Wood, who owns DR5. He said he knows Stacey Hoffman very well. He said that if I decided to stop using his DR5 process it was my loss. It's good to know what kind of people are behind this business. I guess that's a loss I can live with.
Update: Today (16 June, 2010) I received mail from David Wood. He said he was distressed at the "concocted comments" posted here and demanded that I remove all mention of him and his lab from my photos at once. He concluded with, "I'll not ask again." I'm not sure if this is a veiled threat or not, but it just reaffirms what I'd already suspected about Mr. Wood and his methods.

I have no idea what prompted your attack on our lab and me personally. Are you sane?
We did nothing but a top job for you and this is how you have repaid us, by posing negative comments I had nothing to do with.
What is it that you wanted from me that prompted this action? I have no clue what I could have done to prompt this?
Are you a grown man or a juvenile?
If you do not remove your uncalled for comments I will be forced to take legal action against you.
Please don’t make me go this route!
If you have not kindly removed this content , that has already been up for a year, by the weekend, I will instruct my attorney to file damages in court on Monday morning. You will then have to appear here in Colorado.
I still might sue you for all the time those have been up, but in the mean time you better take the comments down.
We had nothing to do with your issue! This is a very childish thing for you to have done and you will pay for it if you do not correct it.
A public apology might be a good place to start.

A punk-rock day at the beach, lol. Last day of photo, and took a trip to Oak St. with Samantha.
Great Yarmouth Row 31 is Nine Parish Row. This view looks west from George Street towards North Quay.
Until the 2nd World War most Great Yarmouth residents lived in houses in the narrow passages known as The Rows that ran East to West between the river and the sea. The few main streets ran North/South. The Rows date from medieval times and recorded numbers of them have varied over time up to as many as 156.
At one time they were known by names such as after a resident or a business and therefore some had more than one name. A numbering system was introduced and I think this goes up to 145. Some had overhanging buildings and were therefore tunnel-like.
Many of them were destroyed in the 2nd World War and many that are left these days are passageways used as short cuts, although Market Row and Broad Row are lined with shops.

A reconstruction of a Great Yarmouth Row can be seen in The Time and Tide Museum in Yarmouth showing what life would have been like at one time in one of the rows.

a closer look at some of my modified english pieced nine patches. the stitches are enlarge to approximately 24-28 spi and done in variegated threads to contrast randomly. the seams are blind stitched open with the same threads, creating a secondary texture and color pattern in the form of rows of tiny little dots of color. i'll be needing well over 4,000 of these little 1 1/2 inch squares to create the queen sized quilt i have in mind...
