One of my shots from a visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, Ontario Canada.

The reflecting ponds always provide interesting opportunities for photos.

Segovia countryside from the Alcázar of Segovia, in the central Castile and León region of Spain.

Thank you very much for your kind comments and faves.

The tour begins with the South Tower, with a climb of 424 steps to reach its summit. It continues through the Cistern Courtyard between the two towers (with this view of the sky). It ends with a descent through the North Tower. On the program, several rooms, bells, exhibitions to explore, and a magnificent double-revolution oak staircase (visitors going up do not meet those going down, just like at the Château de Chambord).

An AI image generated in Dream by Wombo which was based off of my own multiple-exposure photograph and post-processed in Photomatix, Topaz DeNoise, PS, Lr and Nik Collection. An oil paint filter was applied in PS to smoothen out some rough edges and pixelation due to the low resolution of the original image, as well as to add a sense of skin texture and depth to the image. Was very happy with this proof-of-concept experiment. The higher resolution of the original photograph definitely helped to enhance the smoothness and detail of the AI image.

The sea was tempestuous on our first day in Riomaggiore, Italy, one of the 5 towns in the Cinque Terre region.

The rock textures were captivating.

Sprocket, facing the camera (sort of) this time, given one of the High Structure B&W effects in NIK Collection Silver Efex Pro.

I've never really been happy with b&w conversions in Adobe Lightroom, particualrly when using the Black and White Mix panel to make blue skies dark. All to often this produces ugly halo effects around objects adjacent to the blue sky. This problem is much worse in Lightroom than when using the old fashioned Chanel Mixer in Photoshop.

But I don't have access to Photoshop at home these days, and Photoshop Elemements doesn't have the Chanel Mixer. So what is a boy to do?

Well, somewhat late to the party (since NIk is hardly a new player!) I've found Silver Efex Pro. It isn't exactly cheap, but since Google bought Nik the cost of the entire Nik Collection of applications is now down to arround £100.. It's a shame you can't buy the various Nik applications separately, since Silver Efex Pro is really the only one I want, but now that the cost has come down I can justify going for whole collection.

In fact I decided to go for Nik Collection instead of upgrading to Lightroom 5 :-)

The weight of the future is suspended above you.

But the excitement of the present is wrapped about.

You pause to savor this delicious moment

With no thought of what's beyond that red horizon.

I'm heading back to Hawaii in a couple of weeks, so I really need to clear out my backlog of Hawaii photos from last year. We're not going to Maui again this year, which is a shame because this is a beautiful bamboo forest. I'm sure Kauai will hold destinations just as magical.

Shutter, foreground, and Sprocket. They tend to scatter half-eaten bits of food around their bowl. Even though the tandem bowl holds just the right amount of food to keep them from gaining too much weight, maybe I need to buy larger bowls? :)

One of the things that I've liked about my experience documenting the group of performers that like to play with fire is how inclusive they are. One of the performers grabbed the girl sitting next to me and asked her is she would like to try it out. It didn't take much cajoling to get her to play and these shots are of what I think were her first moments playing with fire in this way.

WEEK 11

Landscape: Reflection

Find a way to show your landscape/natural beauty in reflection. The mirror world revealed.

Starry Night!

This one just called for a little more artistic license to be applied. It isn't sharp, it's noisy, and the subject's back is to me. But I love it.

Opposite Borgarnes on the eastern side of Borgarfjörður is Iceland's answer to Half Dome :-) Brekkufjall (409m).

Heading south through the Kaldidalur toward Þingvellir on the F550 - you come across the occasional water of Sandkluftavatn over which looms Ármannsfell (764m).

The lake clearly holds more water than in this pic - probably in Spring - but as the valley floor is solely ash and tephra, the water simply drains away. The ground is incredibly fragile - note how some self-absorbed heros have decided to drive on the surface.

The F550 rolls right through the frame - I took a photo from the other side of the hills at the left back in 2015 - pic in the comments below.

This is unposed street photography. Once per week, a group of impromptu performers gather at a local park at dusk to dance with fire.

Amagerværket BIO4

BIO4: The biomass fuelled power-plant at Amagerværket in Copenhagen.

The new biomass fuelled power plant at Amagerværket, named BIO4, is set to punctuate Greater Copenhagen Utility (HOFOR) and The City of Copenhagen’s joint ambition to become the world’s first CO2-neutral capital by 2025.

The silver lining of a mistake: shot in low resolution

I forgot to reset my camera to RAW leaving it in low-resolution setting!

Images have more noise than usual, especially in the shadows; so why not try the new-to-me NIK filters...

refitted Diaplan 100mm f2.8

I’m embarrassed that I’ve lived in NC for almost 28 years and never knew that the eastern part of the state is on the Atlantic Flyway and is thus a winter destination for many migrating birds. The snow geese come from their breeding grounds on the Arctic Tundra to enjoy the milder NC winters. It was an absolute gift to watch this large flock’s activity at Pocosin Wildlife Reguge.

Taken exactly 90 deg. to the left of my previous post is another shot of the polished lava of Dritvíkurbarð, Snaefellsnes, Iceland. September 2017.

The beach - Djúpalónssandur - is comprised solely of black, basalt shingle that gets flung at the rocks in any kind of sea. This well worn lava bank has strong bands of orange rhyolite (probably) or native basalt with a very high iron content - just not sure either way.
