Pier 54 I found this crazy park near the Chelsea Market in NY City. Little Island. The view was great, but I really liked the abstract shapes of the concrete pylons.

COVID-19 (CORONA VIRUS)

Waiting for the sun to set to capture some SuperMoon shots, the sunset provided a show of its own.
Taken at Bronte Beach Park in Oakville, Ontario Canada - One of my favourite walking spots.
Well, yes... Those of you who are following my work will have realized instantly that this is another photo from my Rosolina archive. It was the first and only time I have been at Rosolina Mare (Rosolina by the Sea), but I have been lucky enough to have two wonderful sunrise sessions there. And apparently my archive from this location has some more suprises in store, somehow (sadly) compensating for the very small trickle of new shots.
There had been a heavy thunderstorm during the night and the sky was still busy in the fiery aftermath of that turmoil, whereas the sea was very calm, already oblivious of the nocturnal gale.
The northern Adriatic Sea is pretty shallow, so even moderate low tides are able to unveal large sandbanks and a hidden world of sand ripples sculpted by the gentle, constant ebb and flow of the water near the coast.
One of the features I like of this view is the sensual spit of sand languidly stretching through the frame - like an ancient goddess lying down by the seashore enjoying the golden kiss of the Sun. However the detail that really captured me was that stranded tangle of reddish seaweed: a remnant of the thunderstorm left on the beach whispering to the sky its own part of the story while slowly dying shrouded in a veil of warm light - surrounded and permeated by all that almost unbearable beauty. So in posting this shot I hope that you can hear its feeble voice, too, and bear with you a memory of the tale of a stranded seaweed...
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1/0/+1 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal" exposure shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

Was not expecting the color variations in the layers of rock formations that comprise the Badlands. I imagine a geologist would be in heaven here studying the history of each deposited layer. For me, I was just in awe of yet again another beautiful part of God's creation.

I've subtitled this image "Victory Lap." The Iowa pheasant hunting season is over and he made it. I prefer to go hunting with my Canon rather than a shotgun anyway.
An early morning trip to Downderry... while the main part of the beach in front of the town is not that interesting, the east end has much more going for it. Shag Rock at the far end (just visible in the distance) is somewhere I really want to get back to, but it's only accessible at low tide. I knew that wasn't going to be possible on this morning but I just fancied revisiting somewhere I've not been for a while!
Have you ever been lost in the middle of an ocean of darkness? Have you ever felt that everything was gone? In such a situation - real of metaphorical - every smallest hint of light would have been the most precious of gifts. Searching for the light, moving towards it... this is an istinct deeply embedded in life itself. Even the humblest unicellular organisms feature an ability to "see" light and move towards it - biologists call this phenomenon phototaxis. One always wants to find her way through the darkness - a way to resurface to the realms of light. The metaphor of light is often used to indicate the origin of something, or to convey the concept of being born (e.g. in Italian we say "venire alla luce" = "to come into the light", analogous to the English phrase "to come into the world"). And plants in the dark grow in distorted forms, striving for the feeblest light.
However, when I captured this enchanted moment I was entranced by that marvellous sky - it looked as if it was at my fingertips, effortlessly mine. But alas, I was badly wrong: nothing of value is to be taken for granted - and I realized this truth as I was post-processing this exposure bracketing by luminosity masks.
Post-processing can sometimes be a voyage through unexpected lands. This was to be one of those times. I have spent hours painting on my ever-growing pile of masked layers to sculpt the tones of this scene - a small area here, a precious detail there... Well, as I indulged in the processing of the ripples of sand left behind by the low tide, I found myself acquiring a new perspective - a lower point of view, as it is. Then and only then, suddenly, it dawned on me that that glorious sky, with those amazing clouds pierced by silky sunbeams, was not a free gift, nor an easy prize. From ground level that beautiful feast of light looked as if it was light years apart - an entirely different dimension - while I was stuck in that incomprehensible maze of shadowy ripples of sand. Trapped into a maze of valleys and crests leading from darkness to darkness.
At last I was able to find that glittering path of light leading towards the shining expanse of the sea - towards the realms of the purest light. Towards the world of the living.

In the photography world, these are occurences of the sun breaking through the clouds are called several things, but usually I hear them referred to as "God Rays". This is the first time I've had the opportunity to photograph the phenomenon, but it was quite spectacular. They only last a minute in one spot usually before they're gone, so I'm fortunate to have captured this one right over Alcatraz.
Another shot in a series of street photography. While enjoying some coffee in between exploring the sights and sounds of downtown DC, I noticed these old friends having a nice discussion. I really loved the play of light off of their faces, as well as the emotiveness of the gal on the left.
