This is a big screen image - press "L" then F11 for maximum impact :-)

This shot is taken from right up at the the head of the fjord and looking back down it to the west and the Greenland Sea.

The last really visible headland is around 26km away where the fjord opens into the Greenland Sea. The village of Bíldudalur can be made out just under the rain closest left.

Spurred on by an image I found on the phone - I went rootling through the NAS for this pic. I posted a mono of a similar scene ages ago but never worked a colour version.

So here it is!

The Crown Mine Engine Houses at Botallack Mines - UNESCO World Heritage Site, Western Cornwall.

The engine houses at The Crown Mine once sheltered steam driven pumps for the submarine tin/copper/arsenic mine that extended from this point out under the sea.

The engine houses are on the bucket list for many photogs. I was very pleased to have had the privilege to shoot there on a grey, flat overcast and misty day that really suited the place.

River Ribble: The primary river that flows through the Ribble Valley. River Calder: This tributary flows through the centre of Whalley and joins the Ribble nearby. River Hodder: Joins the Ribble and Calder at a confluence commonly known as "the meeting of the waters" or Hacking Boat.

Il existe trois sous-espèces de Fous de Bassan (Morus Bassanus) dans le monde : l’une d’elles se trouve le long de la côte sud de l’Afrique, une autre en Tasmanie et en Nouvelle-Zélande, et l’autre dans l’Atlantique Nord.

Le plumage de l’adulte est d’un blanc éblouissant. Une bande étroite de couleur grise encercle les yeux, mais la pointe des ailes est d’un noir de jais. Pendant la saison de nidification, la tête et le cou de l’oiseau prennent une délicate nuance jaune safran. Les yeux sont bleu clair, et le bec est bleu ou gris-bleu.

À l’automne, les jeunes ont le plumage brun rayé et tacheté de blanc. Au fil des saisons, le plumage pâlit; il présente la teinte blanche de l’adulte vers la quatrième ou la cinquième année.

When the weather is as miserable as it is here today ... along with all the rest of the stay at home nonsense ... it's nice to have something to distract one's mind. So, hence the Synapses Firing title.

Dear friends, this is the second post of a photo taken with my new D750. I am still struggling up the learning curve and, apparently, I have to get accustomed to the photos taken with this new camera - very much better, actually another world, but somehow different from those those taken with my good old D5100.

I am not at all satisfied of this shot, another one plagued by ghosts from wind (I had not realised that there was wind, at the time). And I do not love the colours of the clouds; I have tried to better them, but alas, one sometimes has to surrender. Maybe this is not a good time for postprocessing - too much stress, too much sadness - a time devoid of good things. Exhaustion. However I would hope to get from you constructive criticism about this photo and the processing.

I have obtained this picture by blending a 5-exposure bracketing [-2.0/-1.0/0/+1.0/+2.0 EV] by luminosity masks with the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
