Captured from Catbells, this image reveals the Lake District as a layered landscape of ridgelines, water, and distant fells. The sweeping summit view leads the eye along the narrow green spine of the ridge before opening onto the deep blue expanse of Derwentwater and the patchwork valley beyond.
The artistic concept centres on elevation and perspective. The foreground rocks and grasses create an immediate sense of place, while the broad sky and distant mountains expand the image into something more cinematic and contemplative. Light moves across the landscape in soft bands, balancing the rugged energy of the fell with the stillness of the lake below.

Yet another sliderized adaptation of a Macro Mondays outtake, this time from the session for the Oil on Water theme.
Pale-headed Rosella.
Even though it is brightly coloured, the Pale-headed Rosella is very well-camouflaged when feeding amongst leaves in the canopy of trees.
The call is similar to that of the Eastern Rosella: 'kwik, kwik' calling in flight, or when perched a high pitched rapid 'pi-pi-pi-pi-pi' and soft chattering.
Scientific Name: Platycercus adscitus
The Pale-headed Rosella is a medium-sized, broad-tailed parrot, with a pale head and all white, or blue and white cheek patches. The underbelly is mainly blue, with red under the tail. The back is yellow with dark flecks. The female is similar, though slightly duller, with an off-white underwing stripe. There is marked geographical variation, with differences in the depth of colour and the facial patch. This is a noisy and conspicuous parrot, except when feeding. (From Birds in Backyards)

I have been enjoying the zinnias that I planted this year. Not only are they beautiful, hardy, and butterfly magnets, they are also not on the menu of the deer that eat everything else in my garden!
I got a bit lost trying to get back to the Clifton Suspension Bridge and luckily came across this signpost.
Captured at the Colne Blues Festival, this black-and-white live music photograph celebrates the raw intimacy of blues performance spilling out into the street. The image frames two musicians mid-performance: the drummer anchored in rhythm inside the venue, while the saxophonist leans outward with expressive confidence, blurring the line between stage and street.
The monochrome treatment heightens the atmosphere, drawing attention to texture, movement, and mood—the shine of the saxophone, the worn brickwork, the dark venue interior, and the human energy of live improvisation. The composition evokes the spirit of traditional blues culture: spontaneous, soulful, communal, and deeply connected to place.

A vast sweep of moorland unfolds beneath the rising flank of Whernside, where the land rolls outward in muted greens, browns, and weathered gold. A small tarn catches the light below, its silver-blue surface offering a quiet contrast to the rough grasses and open slopes surrounding it.
Above, the sky stretches wide and dramatic, with cloud and light moving across the scene like a slow, silent tide. The image carries the feeling of distance and solitude — a landscape shaped by wind, height, and time, where every path seems to lead deeper into the wild.

Oh I think it could be an elm.

My favourite backlit boat. Jetty Beach, Waubs Bay, Bicheno, Tasmania.
It seems that every time I visit Bicheno I end up with pictures that have this boat in them! Excellent sky on this particular day - smoke from a burn-off somewhere to the west coloured everything quite nicely.
Posted a tighter, portrait frame of the scene a while back and after some fiddling arrived at a version I am happy with in 16:9.
Shot with a 'junk' Takumar 135/3.5 in M42. This is the silver and black first version from between 1957 to 1961. From the serial number it's in the earlier runs to which some scribes attribute sonnar-like qualities. It's so sharp, the links in the mooring chain, distortion of the windows in the wheelhouse and even the throttle handle are visible against the difficult lighting

Took a trip with my other half to Battersea Power Station as she had not been there since the rebuilding. We went onto the RideLondon route afterwards to see her sister finish the 100 mile circuit just after 6 pm.

Captured at the Colne Blues Festival, this black-and-white image focuses on the intimate conversation between rhythm and melody within a live blues performance. The drummer’s poised movement anchors the foreground, while the two guitarists recede into the room, creating a layered composition that mirrors the structure of the music itself.
The artistic concept centres on connection and concentration. Patterned walls, microphone stands, instruments, and overlapping shadows create a dense visual rhythm, while the monochrome treatment strips the scene back to gesture, expression, and the raw atmosphere of live performance. The result is a candid study of collaboration, timing, and the quiet intensity behind the sound.

Beavertail State Park, Jamestown, Rhode Island
The plan was to catch a sunset at Beavertail State Park after work. There wasn't an interesting cloud in the sky, but I stuck around to look for a composition for next time, and noticed some nice highlights reflecting off the rocks, some bits of snow left over from an early April storm, and the west side of Beavertail Light. With an eye towards B&W I threw on the gold-n-blue polarizer for contrast and pop, a grad ND to knock down the sky, and a standard ND to calm the waters. (The color version with the gold-n-blue filter was ghastly.) This was my first deep dive into Silver Efex Pro. That's some powerful stuff. "Selenium" refers to the tone used in SEP.
I'm pretty happy with the Nik Collection. It's relatively straightforward, and I find a little fiddling goes a long way. It's also now free; I was shocked and pleasantly surprised when I noticed an unsolicited refund on my credit card last week!
Filters: gold-n-blue polarizer, 2-stop soft-edge GND, 6-stop ND
