As promised, here's my Macro Mondays "Shell" outtake. It's the same snail shell as in my official photo for the theme, but this time, it's a small detail of the shell's underside. While taking the MM photos, I noticed that this particular shell has a tiny extra hole next to the actual hole/opening. It took me a while to find info on that particular part of the shell, and what we are looking at apparently is its umbilicus. The search also helped me to identify the snail species this shell once belonged to: Neverita josephinia, a member of the moon snail family, and a predatory sea snail native to the Mediterranian region, so it's most likely that this shell is a souvenir from a holiday at Italy's Adriatic Sea when I was six, but Croatia is also a possibility.
When I looked through the viewfinder, the Laowa set to 2x magnification, this part of the shell reminded me of the unique and very special stone formations of Antelope Canyon. Well, looking at the image today, I should admit that it also reminds me of a tongue of sorts, so maybe the snail that once occupied this shell was a Rolling Stones fan ;)

If there's one thing I positively hate about sewing, it's seam ripping. Here's this nice, super secure triple stretch stitch, just finished, and I realise I made a mistake. Sigh. And it's once again time for the grand entrance of the seam ripper...
I bought this for the theme (and for the seam?) because I couldn't find my old trusted (and way too often used) seam ripper. Freud would know why... The new seam ripper is a pretty thing with an ergonomic, transparent purple handle that won the Red Dot Design Award. Maybe using such a nice tool will make me like seam ripping. I doubt it but who knows...
This was also one of the rare occasions where I knew at once what I wanted to do for the theme and how, and – more importantly – where I could actually yield a result almost exactly the way I had envisioned it. To get both the tiny red ball and the tip in focus I had to do focus bracketing (45 images, combined in Helicon Focus).
Btw, do you know what the red ball is for? I only learned it now when doing some research on seam rippers for the theme, realising I have been doing it wrong my entire life. The red ball is supposed to go under the seam. This way, it prevents the fabric from getting damaged and you can smoothly glide the seam ripper through as the seam ripper's edge cuts the seam but not the fabric. Another sigh ;)

Some time ago I cut the honey gem grevillea right back, as they can grow quite large. Since then, it has grown and is now flowering extremely well, looking very nice. The honeyeaters really love it.

While in our Solar system, a total eclipse like the Great North American Eclipse of April 8 is an extremely rare sensation, it is a way more frequent (regular, even) occurrence in the Egglar system. There, a total eclipse often can be seen every Sunday morning. Sometimes, these total eclipses even happen twice or more times a week.
Since in Germany, the April eclipse wasn't even visible as a partial eclipse, and the next total eclipse, visible only in Southern Germany, will happen in... 2081 (and Northern Germany? 2135!), I can safely say I won't see either. So I decided to create my very own eclipse for "Egg".
For the sun, I used a whole uncooked egg, backlit by an LED lamp placed right behind it. A smaller, cracked piece of eggshell served as the moon. At first, I had put a smaller egg in front of the "sun", but the round edges were too soft to create this nicely defined shape the moon had in the real eclipse. The cracks in the smaller piece of eggshell also helped in making the "moon's" upper edge better visible in the image because they caught on/let through a little bit of the backlight.
To achieve a good sharpness and definition on both the sun and the moon I had to do focus stacking/bracketing. The in-camera focus stacking didn't work that well with this rather difficult setup, so I did focus bracketing instead. When the camera is set on focus bracketing, one can technically take up to 999 single images. Which I thought was a slight stacking overkill, so I made do with 99 images of which I used about 40 which I combined in Helicon Focus (A, R8, S1).
Size info: The part of the whole egg that is visible in the frame is 4,5 cm/1,77 inches.

I'm trying now to include a roll film camera in my backpack most of the time. Analog photography is part of me. That's what happens when you live 50 years of Analog vs only 12 years in Digital.

And what many different times this vintage pocket watch has seen... From its looks, it must be well over 100 years old but apart from a slight crack in the enamel of the dial (the blurry "verdigris"-green line next to the 2) it's still in excellent (and working!) condition.
The watch belongs to my mom (magrit k.); I borrowed it for this photo because the hour hand is more of a distinct arrow-shape than the more squiggled (nice word!), golden watch hands on my own (broken) vintage pocket watch and so was more suitable for the theme. The hands of my Mom's pocket watch are blued but, depending on the angle of light incidence, they display a lovely, pinkish-red shimmer which is what you see here.
It's a single shot that I illuminated with a natural light LED photo lamp from above and an LED lamp from the left.

Hi my friends, here it is another sunrise from Umbria, Italy - actually, same time and same place as one of my previous uploads (Then Someone drew the curtains and..., as you can easily see from the warped trunk of the oak tree near the center of the scene).
If you are thinking that it is a bit more than pretentious that an Italian is composing verses in English, you are in part right - only in part, though, since I do not assume that I have written good verses, but I felt like trying to convey the emotions that went with the adventure of processing this scene. Hope that the result is at least decent.
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.3/0/+1.3 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4 (and a little trick of mine involving a bw version of the photo). Raw files has been processed with Darktable.

Oh, the cheek! How could greedy Tyranno dare try stealing Veloci's beloved potato crisp?!? "Try" being the operative word, because never in the whole world would she let him have it. Ever! Lashing around furiously, her tail was ready to punch him right in the eye. "Go buy your own bag of potato crisps, you lazy bully! This isn't even your favourite variety!", she hissed. "But Veloci, darling", Tyranno cooed, "you know how I like to sleep in on New Year's Eve, and the shops closed at 2 p. m., and now it's a quarter past two... How can I properly celebrate New Year's Eve without potato crisps? Please share, there are enough crisps for the two of us. And it's much more fun to binge-watch all of the Jurassic Park franchise movies together. And afterwards, we could watch all the Alien movies. Come on, Veloci, dear, it will be so much fun!" "Hmpf. Maybe you are right. Watching the movies alone is not fun at all. But I get to sit in your arms the entire time! And next time you buy the crisps!"
There are quite a few guilty pleasures included already in the story above. And there are a few more in this photo: Keeping, and foremost buying things I don't need but might be useful one day for an MM theme, like these two dinosaur figures I didn't own before I became an MM member. Other guilty pleasures included in the image are: over-processing my photos, using over-saturated colours, writing weird stories...
I did in-camera focus stacking but brought a little blur back in Helicon Focus because I wanted some sense of motion in the image. Size-wise, this is pretty much maxed out, I arranged my little scene so that it was just a little less than three inches.

This is an item that I've already used for the MM theme "Made of Metal" back in 2017: it's a broad, rustic-looking bracelet/bangle made of iron (please see the first comment).
Since I didn't want to reuse the "volcano" idea, I decided to focus on the interesting-looking forged surface of the bracelet which reminds me of an ancient secret code or tribal drawings. It's about the iron the bracelet was made of, after all, not the holes that are a design element.
Even though it doesn't look like a focus stacking image, it is one, made of 15 single Raw shots combined in Helicon Focus (method B, radius 8, smoothing 1). At first, I had taken a few images with the Laowa Ultra Macro lens but the DOF, even when stopped down, was way too shallow for a theme that highlights a special material.
The width, from the bracelet's outer edge to the edge of one of the aforementioned holes (in the upper right corner), is exactly 1 cm/0,39 inches. I used the translucent red chocolate box lid as a background, and some blue light (from the left, created with the semi-translucent blue snack can lid) as colour dashes. To highlight the bracelet's surface texture, I illuminated it with my small LED flashlight (set on "spotlight") from above which added a silvery look to it. Actually, the bracelet is of that quite typical, darkish-grey colour one would expect from something made of iron.

Framed beneath the sharp, rugged skyline of the Pike of Stickle, this photograph captures the quiet resilience of Lakeland life. A traditional stone farmstead nestles beside a winding track, bordered by weathered dry‑stone walls that merge with the rocky moorland. The steep, craggy slopes rise steeply behind, their earthy hues glowing under a sky streaked with shifting cloud and light. The image balances the grand, untamed scale of the Langdale Pikes with the intimate, enduring presence of human settlement—exploring how generations have lived alongside this ancient, dramatic landscape, finding shelter and purpose at the foot of the mountains.

The hotels Waldorf Astoria (on the left) and Upper West (a Motel One hotel) in Berlin's Charlottenburg district. At a height of 118,8 meters (389,76 feet) each, both buildings are among the highest in Berlin. Not exactly skyscraper dimensions but not to be scoffed at either ;) Both buildings are fairly new, the Waldorf Astoria opened in 2013, and the Upper West in 2017. Side by side in the City West are the luxurious Waldorf Astoria and the way more affordable Motel One. The Waldorf Astoria's building is officially called Zoofenster ("zoo window") because Berlin's Zoological Garden lies right across it.
Photography-wise, the Upper West with its futuristic look and the elegant curves is the more interesting subject, but this view up with both buildings in the frame, taken from the center strip of Kantstrasse, also looked interesting, especially with the cotton candy sky :)
P.S. This was taken with the Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5 mm F/2, not the (equally fantastic) C-Dreamer 6mm (which belongs to my Mom, magrit k.. I forgot to change my camera's lens info settings back to the 7.5 mm lens.

I admit I'm a little late for Halloween but the (pretty scary but visually beautiful) 2019 Lovecraftian horror movie with Nicolas Cage and Joely Richardson came to my mind while searching for a title for this photo. And it's probably the "Protection" against said "Color Out of Space".
You've seen small parts of this Casio G-Shock watch for two earlier MM themes (please see the first comment). Please don't ask me how I got this distortion effect. I wanted to get as close as possible to the "Protection" lettering (that you find on all G-Shocks) while showing all its letters, and I wanted to play with sharpness and blur. That's the obvious part. At one point I put the translucent red plastic lid behind the little scene instead of using it as a colour filter, next I rearranged the LED lamps, and the weird distortion just happened. I liked it so I took a few images. And since my first idea didn't work out as planned, I decided to stick to the "pink distortion".
The "Protection" lettering measures 1,7 cm/0,66 inches. The photo is a single shot taken with the Laowa 50mm Ultra Macro lens. Processed mainly in DXO PhotoLab 8 and LR, and I had to do some de-dusting in PS although I had carefully polished the watch before taking the photo. It's the old macro dust story ;)
